No, I seem to be empathetic to the struggles of people in society. What are my flaws that you think I'm projecting?

I never ever said that all men don't want sex. However, I will stand by my position that most (if not all) men don't want sex sometimes. And in the poster, the man is saying that he's not in the mood. That's pretty explicit. And I don't disagree that men who aren't willing to say no when they aren't in the mood need to get over themselves, fight the cultural stigma against men having feelings too, and say that they aren't feelin' up to it. But just because they should doesn't mean that they do. …

The point is that not all men are like that. Sure, it's great that you want sex. Good for you. I don't care. You aren't the only man on the planet.

I did phrase it poorly. Let me try again. You were raised being told that you were supposed to want sex all the time.
/r/MensRights23/08/12 06:56 PM

Because men are raised in a society that tells them they're supposed to expect sex all the time. If they don't, then there's something wrong with them. And since women are raised in that society too, their reactions to being rejected for sex by men are awfully severe. "He's cheating on me, he doesn't find me attractive, he's mad at me, etc." Because we're taught that men ALWAYS want it, when they don't.

So if a girl gets drunk and passes out, and a guy starts goin' at it... she's not being raped? Dude, what? That would be me being fucking stupid. This is the worst kind of victim blaming. "You got drunk and passed out? Well, that was stupid of you. Guess it wasn't rape." "Oh, you were walking alone at night? That was stupid of you. Guess it wasn't rape." Or alternatively. "Oh, you left your doors unlocked when you left for the weekend? Well, that was stupid of you. It's a shame all your stuff wa…

Wait. When you say that you think the laws should reflect that, what do you mean? 'Cause it sounds really really bad. "I know it's wrong, but it's so hard for us to keep ourselves from doing it, so the law should be a bit more lenient when we RAPE people." Actually, do you think that rape laws should be more severe on women than they are on men since they don't have those genetic instincts to fight off? There are a lot of flaws with this idea- the main one being that as soon as we're capable of …

Or he could be distracted by something else, be thinking about anything else (not necessarily worried) or any number of things. (It doesn't have to be something bad for a guy to not want sex.)

Implying that it's impossible for rape to occur when people are dating or married?
/r/MensRights23/08/12 10:57 AM

You should probably try talking to her about it. Tell her that you feel bad for having sex with her if she doesn't enjoy it, or worse, if she finds it upsetting. Tell her that she has to communicate with you. If she doesn't consent to sex, it could be construed as rape, yes. You should ask. If she says, "I guess," or, "If you want to," don't do it. That wouldn't be rape, but still, it would be bad.

The problem is when you take that and apply it to all men. Not everyone feels the way you do, and a lot of people only pretend to feel that way because it's expected of them.

He'd ignore me for a while, come back and thank me for bein' around, then go back to ignoring me. He'd invite me over for the weekend and then spend the whole time focused on something else. Whenever he was drunk or high it was like he wasn't even aware that I existed. He was very self absorbed most of the time. He avoided confrontations with his family. He had some drama with them. He was at boot camp for the Navy and they made him take this psychological analysis test, then sent him to a psychiatrist, then kicked him out because he was Bipolar and had Borderline Personality Disorder. Hiya! Woman here! Dated a guy with BPD for about six months. We broke up in February. Oddly enough, instead of not letting me hang out with my own friends, he always cancelled our dates and avoided me. It was a really sudden change, too. From what I understand about BPD, it affects your opinions of people around you. (Someone you love might suddenly seem disgusting to you.) That's just part of it, though.

I think at this point it's just semantics. It's easier to say 'let' because it means the same thing as, 'provides no consequences.' If I say someone 'lets' me do something, I don't mean they can control my every move. I mean that they don't bitch about it or try to 'punish' me for it. You can tell from lalicat's comment what he meant.

About your friend's wife, I think that's just that she's insecure and controlling. (I was in a relationship like that where my boyfriend didn't let me have any friends either. It's just downright abusive. Not a gender issue.) About the rest of it, though, yeah, from what I can tell, women hate feeling left out. It's not about feeling like you guys are being mean to us or feel contempt for us, it's that, biologically speaking, girls want to have the attention of the men around them. (You'll notic…

You know, the original wasn't an original. It was a parody of posters telling women how to avoid getting raped. So this is a parody of a parody. Why did you find parody 1 offensive?
/r/MensRights17/07/12 09:48 PM

I think the bigger issue is knowing what constitutes as rape specifically and translating it from this big terrible thing we hear about to how people behave in real life. And that's what the campaigns are for.
/r/MensRights17/07/12 06:43 PM

You know, I don't disagree that people are more likely to be raped by someone they know. That's a fact, and I understand that. However, that does NOT make it suddenly less likely for you to get raped on the street. That happens, and it happens all the time.
/r/MensRights17/07/12 06:39 PM

As far as I'm aware, most rapists don't think that what they're doing counts as rape. (A bad guy won't admit he's a bad guy because he doesn't believe that he is.) And regardless of how the poster is worded, it's goal is to say women shouldn't have to be so cautious about getting raped. The original poster is telling women to treat all men as rapists, and the satire of that one is saying for men to not rape. This one is covering a completely different issue.

It's a parody of those posters that tell women how to avoid getting raped. (Don't walk alone at night, carry a whistle/pepper spray, and all that stuff.) So this post made a parody of a parody. I mean, the main point it's trying to get across is that we should be fighting for a society were women (specifically, though it applies to other groups) don't have to worry about getting raped so much because dudes know better. And that's not the fault of feminists. That's actually the fault of people arguing against women joining the military at all. Of course, I, as an egalitarian, think that the draft is a terrible thing and no one should have to sign up for it, man or woman.
/r/MensRights16/07/12 02:18 AM

Ahhhhh. Okay, see, that's where I was confused. People don't have a right to have their delicate sensibilities protected. I was reading it more as, "People aren't allowed to not be offended by x." I was so so so confused by that.

My claim of it being satire wasn't to defend it. It's unfunny and a frightening concept, but it sounds like a terrible setting in some fucked up fantasy novel. I was answering someone else's question about it. Also, I don't understand what you mean by saying that people "don't have a right to not be offended." Surely they do?

I think it's satire. (Don't hate feminists. Feminism is just a branch of egalitarianism that deals with women's rights, exactly the same way this subreddit is a branch of egalitarianism that deals with men's rights. What you just read, if not satire, is an example of a supporter of matriarchy [as opposed to patriarchy.] Neither is a good thing.)

How many average nerve endings do females have in their private bits compared to men? What percentage of theirs are removed compared to the percentage of men's? There's more to FGM than just the clitoris, as well.

Sir, please at least try to be civil. I can understand where your anger's coming from, but chill out. We're not actually disagreeing with each other. My comment was originally in response to this: Also it amazes me how many feminists argue that circumcision or male genital mutilation is not as harmful as female genital mutilation... I've been trying to make it very clear that I am against both MGM and FGM, but I believe it is dishonest to say that FGM is not physically worse for the victim.

It's become clear to me that you're just trying to be disagreeable instead of having a proper discussion. You KNOW what society means. (You're talking about civilization, bro. Society has multiple definitions, and I'm using the one used most often around me.) There's no reason to be such an ass. I was trying to have a reasonable discussion. I'm done, though. THIS I completely agree with. Thank you for being civil. I only brought it up in the first place because the post I was responding to mentioned how silly it was that feminists tried to defend MGM by saying that FGM was worse- implying that it wasn't. Also it amazes me how many feminists argue that circumcision or male genital mutilation is not as harmful as female genital mutilation, where the clitoral hood and/or clitoris is removed for religious reasons. Ouch. Not enough of the nerves are taken away to prevent orgasm in a male. However, it's hard enough for women to orgasm as it is, and female circumcision takes away all chance she ever had. I feel like you guys are taking this as some sort of support for male genital mutilation, when it's simply not. I was not the one to bring up female vs. male circumcision. I'm just trying to present an objective standpoint. I know that both of them are completely wrong, and we shouldn't all them to be performed unless in very unique cases, and never for reasons of religion or tradition or misinformation. However, if you're going to say that female circumcision is not worse than male circumcision, you're being dishonest.
