Let's be honest here. No macho answers, and no judgement. In reality, how many guys here would be happy to get validation from your ex that the divorce was not your fault?I’ve accepted that I’ve missed signals, and that I’ve not been the best husband / friend I could be. I blame myself for pushing my stbxw to the point of divorce. That being said, I’m finally in a position to improve myself, and I’m frustrated that, I’m not given the chance to do so. I do believe, that my stbx will eventually realize that (sometime after the divorce is completed), and regret her decision. I can’t tell her that though, she’s so angry I can’t tell her anything. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/07/23 06:27 PM
I slept with my stbxwSounds like you’re torn about it. Shit happens, but you’ll have to mentally deal with this. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/07/23 11:02 AM
The Karma bus claims it’s latest victim.IMO - the affect of “Karma”, is a negative outcome to an event, caused by a subtle distraction in the back of the persons mind (due to something shitty they did in the past, that has lingered in the back of their mind) that was just enough to turn a “near miss” into an accident/mistake. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/07/23 07:35 PM
House / Car / Other “buyout” Cash as part of divorce - taxed?Oh no kidding eh? I assumed it was all “upfront” as part of the divorce. Good to know, that there is a possible timeframe for the payout - and to possibly consider time value of money. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/07/23 07:31 PM
House / Car / Other “buyout” Cash as part of divorce - taxed?Big help - and sigh of relief. Will confirm with mediator when that time comes. From the looks of it, will fall below the 250k. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/07/23 06:32 PM
Divorce papers came in todayDid it make a difference in the outcome? Or was it more of a “punch in the gut”. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/07/23 06:05 PM
Divorce papers came in todayI’m terrified of this moment too. when it all hits I’ve been fortunate, to have friends that have absolutely been there for me. However, I made one big change from how I normally interact with them - I was honest with them. I told them, yeah things are really shitty. I’m sad. I’m scared. I don’t want anyone else, and I miss her dearly. And ya know what? They’ve reached out. They’ve made it a point to invite me out, they’ve made it a point to check in on me. And each time, I’ve let them know what… | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/07/23 06:04 PM
House / Car / Other “buyout” Cash as part of divorce - taxed?Good luck. Hopefully all goes well. Any tips / lessons learned on how to calculate the value of assets? | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/07/23 05:57 PM
Did you keep the engagement ring?Spot on. Thats where I’m at. Missed subtle hints, and my response to hints I picked up, the response was not adequate. So it goes. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/07/23 08:03 PM
Did you keep the engagement ring? That’s what I’m hoping to do too. However, I expect she will put it on the counter, or send it to me, or something else saying “your choice, but I don’t want it”. And from there, I would feel weak taking it back. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/07/23 04:26 PM
Did you keep the engagement ring?Didn’t want to believe it. Same thing happened to me. And, to be honest, for whatever reason our wives at the time, didn’t feel comfortable telling us the truth, and we, for whatever reason, failed to “pick up what they were putting down”. From my experience, I feel like it’s an example of how I failed to recognize what my wife was saying (because, I can only control how I interpret what she’s saying, and asking for clarification. I have no control over what she does). | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/07/23 04:11 PM
