It depends on context. The idea of "permission" is just boundary setting in most relationships and normally goes both ways. You're not allowed to shave with my razor, don't use my stuff improperly, clean up after yourself, no smoking in the house, etc. It definitely is a fine boundary though. The right to serve was never taken away in the sense of an ultimatum. People knew McDonald's coffee was hot, but not that hot, and that's where the danger was. They retained the right to serve the coffee as they wished, and I guess the condition was the warning label. It's like the poison sign on rat poison, regulation is regulation. McDonald's coffee today is still the same temperature as the day that 80 year old woman was disfigured and disabled, so you are correct in that it is their right to serve it at whatever temperature they wish for business and flavour. I disagree with education not being a right. There's campaigns for girls to be educated in third world countries because feminists advocate that it's a right. Not me, but I was a kin major and there are giants in my graduating class. They don't efficiently use leg curl machines because the point of pressure of the weight is not maximizing their moment arm. I've even seen them bump their knees on the handles for the older non-electric stationary bikes. Hard to describe case by case, but I definitely recall them being fed up by some of the equipment. I work with amputees and disabled folks, and I completely agree with you. I'm always amazed at how people can adapt their walking to seem completely normal. With that said, I learn to never second look anyone who seems "normal" in an accessibility parking spot, because you never really know. Some of the patients I deal with actually tell us to make their devices (prosthesis, orthosis, what have you) as bright and obvious as possible so people would let them use the accessibility facilities.

I'll have to agree with this. I've frequently been blamed for being a slut-shamer because I strongly believe that a woman needs to be responsible for her own actions.
