I wonder if the decision may have had something to do with the children? It's possible (though really, not probable) that had the genders been reversed the husband would have won the case because he had childcare expenses.

Well, I think the "was necessary" part should speak for itself. The circumstances I was referring to in the present tense would be things like the equal opportunities employment act. We shouldn't respond to sexism with more sexism. That phrase is a reference to the idea that men are only interested in sex. IE, All I want is milk (sex) and she is giving it away so I don't want her. The reverse of that is the idea that women only want money and protection from men. Neither of these ideas are true or productive, and both are detrimental to everyone's equality when we hold them as true.

Yes, but a place where everyone agrees with you is more pleasant. It's why people listen to Fox news. Some of them know they are only getting one side, but it's the side they agree with, so they don't care. I wholeheartedly agree with the goal of this subreddit, but I'm the first to point out that we have our fair share of sensationalism and childish resentment. Over there, you are speaking directly to members of the "opposition" so that kind of stuff doesn't go over so well.

"Women's rights" is not nearly done: it is barely beginning. Yes and no. I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I believe when he said "women" he meant "pop culture." I think he's trying to say that all the sitcoms where the wife is sensible and the man is a bumbling moron begin to mold culture after a while. My hope for men's rights is the same as my hope for women's rights: I want us to become quaint anachronisms. Think of it this way. There is no law forcing employers to hire equal numbers of blondes and brunettes. Statistically it's likely that there are a small number of work places where there are exclusively one or the other.
