My husband is neither a narc, nor an LVM, so you can stop insulting him. We’ve been together for 25 years - at some point you can stop being wary, you know ?

I’m describing anarchism - a situation where nobody is controlling the property. That’s a truly egalitarian society - and one based on consenus decision making where everybody has to agree on a collective decision. These societies have existed in the past, and there are a (very) few left today. There’s nothing wrong with your fantasy of dominant matriarchal power - except that an imbalance inevitably leads to a correction. The flatter the organisational structure, the more stable it is.

Its that the criteria of anthropologists for matriarchal societies is based on partiarchal norms. What if a matriarchy is based on consensus rather than hierarchy ? So there is no “top” of the structure, because the structure is flat. What if property is communal ? What if a matriarchy looks nothing like a patriarchy ? This isn’t “scientific rigor” - its scientific bias towards the male/patriarchal. Matriarchal societies are being asked to fulfil the organisational and structural criteria of a p…

I am a stay at home mum who’s husband cooks and cleans and does laundry without being asked to or prompted. And our male children will do their work around the house, including doing the laundry, sweeping the floor, loading and unloading the dishwasher and helping to cook meals every evening, without being asked. This had got nothing to do with being a stay at home mum and everything to do with being a doormat. Very early on in our relationship, my husband criticised the way I ironed a shirt for…

Never marry a lawyer. They are trained to keep arguing even when they know they’re wrong.

Yes I thought so too. It’s the only book by her I’ve read. But I did notice in some of the reviews that some of her longtime followers were very very angry and disappointed about it, because she had been selling this whole marriage and love and children thing, and then suddenly that all went out the window. I only heard about this book because Adele was talking about it. So I haven’t been following her and I haven’t read any of her other stuff. I thought it was honest and quite brave – I mean sh…

I have to say I disagree. I think you need to live together before making a committment in front of all your friends and family like an engagement. When my husband and I moved in together, I told him I would live with him for a year and a day and then I would expect to get engaged, and that’s exactly what happened. I wouldn‘t make the committment of an a engagement until I had lived with someone and seen what they are really like on an extended basis. I certainly wouldn’t put up with not being m…

She wrote a first book about her marriage and married life, which broke down completely when she met another woman. This books is about how she then had to come to terms with the breakdown of her marriage that she had written about, the lies she had told herself to stay married (not just about her sexuality, but the repression of great chunks of her personality as well), and the fact that she was same-sex attracted. Its well written and seems pretty honest. It certainly got me thinking - I came …

I inherited one from my Grandmother. Its not a “pin” !! Its about 4 or 5 inches of razor sharp steel, quite solid, like quarter of a pencil thickness. I hurt myself very badly testing it. That’s why it came with a little cork on the end. I was just thinking the other day women should take to wearing them again.....

Putting Ikea furniture together is one of the best tests of a man, and of a relationship IMO. All the little tells - does he read instructions, does he force things together when he can’t get them to fit, does he swear or slam things when he’s impatient or frustrated, does he have a set of basic tools, does he give up too easily..... The other one I’ve learnt personally is putting up a tent together in the rain. Wish I’d paid attention to that one. He ended up sitting in the car while I did it. …

These are the newer myths. One of the interesting books I picked up off the FDS reading list was “Godesses in Everywoman” by Jean Shinoda Bolen. She talks about how the older matrifocal religions had goddesses who had snakes as symbols. The Greek myths have much older versions in which the Goddesses were much more powerful. Have a read of the wiki on Persephone. The Greek stuff is a parse of a much, much older legend in which Persephone is a dreaded Goddess of the underworld, as well as a fertil…

I still have a soft spot for Clueless. When I read this sub, I get that scene right at the beginning when a boy comes up to her and she pushes him off with an “Ew. As if.” 🤣

Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to see the crazy in action. It would be different if they were just little kids, but I don’t think it hurts for teenagers to see what the crazy actually looks like, to see how someone changes their personalities as soon as they think they’ve got someone locked down. That’s a very powerful lesson and it’s one some of us don’t learn until we discover that we’ve been locked down and the crazy starts up. I was lucky, if you call it that, to go out with a complete psychopath…

I’ve started to listen to Solfeggio frequencies when I’m driving. Its such a small thing, but I’m always super calm and relaxed when I arrive somewhere. Test first while not using heavy machinery 😳 some people are really sensitive to them. Spotify has a stack of playlists.

Oddly enough I think it was the Spice Girls with the whole girl power thing that subverted the 90’s. With “girl power” being embodied by wearing boob tubes and hot pants. Even at the time I thought “hang on a sec”.

A bunch of women set up a place like this in NSW in the 70s called Amazon Acres. It’s a fascinating read - check it out

I’m finding it so hard to read AITA or any of the Relationship subs after finding FDS. I keep wanting to send these poor women here - “Read the FDS Handbook and it will all become painfully clear” - but that would lead to brigading 😔 Ideally we need a book so I can send it to all my girlfriends and recommend it to people online.
