I mean women are also required to shave - well not required but held do the same social standards and men's beards. I think the issue is that food is considered essential, and non taxable. Tampons are not considered essential and thus can be taxed. This can seem discriminatory for obvious reasons. Make up, while not a necessity, can be required socially in order to advance in a job where as a man in the same position doesn't need it. Interestingly enough women attempt suicide at much higher rates then men - just use less massy methods that are also less effective. I think depression is gender neutral.
