No easy answer here. If you can get an equity loan on the house equity, rates likely to drop in sept/october, it may be cheaper to pay back that loan and let your 401k gain in value. In the meantime, you also have your house hopefully gaining in value too, regardless of the equity loan. This way both your 401 and house are both in the market at full value and gaining value. Taking from your 401 would eliminate the loan payback, but you’d be losing that value in the market.
