What do I do from here?Don't sign anything until you consult with a lawyer. Honestly, family court is heavily stacked against men so you need to play your cards right and do the best you can to get custody of your children. Trust me, you don't want her calling the shots if you can help it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/03/26 08:39 PM
What do I do from here? You're on the right track. Definitely lawyer up. Don't let her know your intentions or she will immediately lawyer up and could become unhinged and start doing weird shit. Do what the attorney advises. Take notes about what she says and does that might help your case. Remain calm. Good luck. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/03/26 08:28 PM

37M Considering Divorce – Feeling Burnt Out, No Love Left, But Afraid of Ruining Her LifeYou may need to see a therapist on your own. You have no responsibility for her feelings or behavior. There's virtually no possible recovery for the relationship at this point. See Gottman institute 4 horsemen. | /r/Divorce_Men | 01/03/26 07:24 PM

Child supportPay the child support before paying for anything else. It won't count for child support, and she can pay for it (that's what the child support is for not her boxes of wine). It may be possible to have child support adjusted if you have had a change in income through no fault of your own. Not sure about that but others will likely be able to comment. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/02/26 08:01 PM

Dad in CA Wife moved “for summer,” filed for separation, kept kids 77 days, now blocking court-ordered timeWhat's normal, in my experience, is that women win most battles under the archaic and murky standard of "what's best for the kids." As if the judge would know. They will occasionally rule in favor of the man when the woman's request is very far out of line. For the most part, paying a mortgage on an empty house while your ex has taken the kids and is uncooperative seems about right. Hopefully they find her in contempt, but she'll have some BS excuse so I wouldn't get too hopeful. Basically, figh… | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/02/26 04:27 PM
Yet Another "Figuring Out Dating" Question Shortly After Divorce QuestionSo a lot of the answers to your questions are entirely up to you. Want to date V exclusively? Date V exclusively. Want to date several at the same time? Date several at the same time. Just be authentic and truthful. Nothing wrong with saying you're seeing others while early on in dating. However, be prepared for some to bounce if they want to be exclusive. In reality, it's entirely up to you. If you really like V, nothing wrong with sticking with her. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/02/26 08:41 PM

How much is a contested divorce likely to cost in Colorado with a kid, house, and some assets? It's going to cost a lot and she will likely win as she's a female. Family court is a farce. If she did more school stuff, doctors/dentist appointments, play date arrangements, etc. etc., they will give her primary custody and the house. She will likely have to pay you part of the equity. It really all depends on how much you want to fight. I did because of unreasonable custody demands and I wanted the kids to know I fought for them. Best of luck. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/02/26 08:24 PM

“Mental Load”Just taking a stab in the dark here...but have you looked up narcissistic personality disorder and compared the traits that define it with your wife's behavior? Start there. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/02/26 06:14 PM
STBXW - Threatening to take children - GeorgiaLawyer up immediately. Family court is typically unfavorable towards men, so stay calm and realize you're going to get pulled through a knothole. Typically, family court claims to make decisions in "the best interest of the children," which of course is subjective. Best advice is to lawyer up immediately and tell her nothing. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/02/26 06:55 PM

Found the affair yesterdayStaying in a bad marriage is not good for the kids. Better to divorce and be the best father the courts allow you to be. I would bounce. | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/01/26 09:04 PM

Couples Therapy Scheduled - But I'm Already DoneThe first session will likely be a lot like an intake. Basic information, description of the problem(s) from each perspective, etc. You won't be required to swear on a bible that you want to repair the relationship. You can do a lot of listening and say you're ambivalent. You may get assigned homework or be provided with something to think about for the next session. I would go if you want to buy time and don't want her to know you've mostly made up your mind. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/01/26 10:13 PM
Divorce from a BP1 WifeWhat I've learned is that it's likely that nothing will change, despite how much you would like them to. Therefore you have to have to accept the person (and relationship) as they are now. If you can't/won't/don't want to do that, then cut your losses. Things will eventually get better and you will have less chaos in your life. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/01/26 11:21 PM

How do you get enough courage to pull the triggerWell, you could always stick around while things get worse. Getting it over with is worth it. If you could look into the future and see how settled, relieved, and dare I say happy you would be...you would start the proceedings asap. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/12/25 09:34 PM

Divorce is upon usIf you can tolerate being around each other, than be as cordial and polite as possible. I just know myself and how emotionally charged divorces can be...to include mine (the second one was easier). If things don't get too toxic you might be able to manage it. I moved out into a friend's dilapidated house for $450/month and it was preferable to the other alternatives. Just keep in mind you'll eventually get through all this and that it will undoubtedly suck in the meantime. | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/12/25 09:50 PM
Divorce is upon usIt depends on how emotionally charged things are. Me? I would move out and start the divorce process immediately. Not trying to give any kind of advice as every situation is different...but you asked what I would do. That's what I'd do. | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/12/25 09:28 PM
I don’t even know what title to give this postMany on here have gone through versions of what you're going through, myself being one of them. You're doing the right thing by going to the gym and getting some exercise. You're probably in the most difficult stage right now, so hang in there. Things will get both better and worse like a roller coaster in the short term, but once the dust settles things will gradually improve, and you will heal emotionally. It just takes time. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/12/25 11:38 PM
Miss my wifeWhat kept me sane was exercise. I lifted weights and ran a lot. It will get better with time. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/12/25 11:28 PM
Need advice on something I should know betterWell, I think you're going to get all kinds of responses. From my perspective and experience...yes, it's too soon. Truthfully, I didn't follow my own advice when I was in your situation. I was not as healthy emotionally as I thought I was. Everything turned out fine eventually, but if I were to go back in time I would have waited much longer. At least 6 months if not a year. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/12/25 05:58 PM
1 monthWell done...you're doing all the right things!! Having experienced divorce...twice I know that doing exactly what you're doing kept me as healthy as possible both physically and emotionally during challenging times. Godspeed!! | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/12/25 04:02 PM

Need advice about ex doing as she pleasesMy experience was that none of that mattered because we live in a matriarchy. It also depends on which state you live in, and which county of said state. I live in a blue county in a blue state and nothing she did mattered to the court. They didn't give one f*ck. It might be different where you are, but I doubt it. Do the best you can and whatever happens your better off. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/12/25 10:20 PM
Men who initiated divorce after a long relationshipYour life is going to get much better my friend. I was in almost the exact same situation. Married a girl from high school and divorced at 40. It sucked at first because even though I wanted the divorce it was still emotional and we ended up having a rough custody battle. After a while I started dating and it was nice not being around an obnoxious...person. Best of luck. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/12/25 09:55 PM
On the fenceDivorce. Speaking from experience. Whatever you have to go through is better than staying. Look up the gottman institute 4 horsemen and see how that applies to your current situation. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/12/25 09:38 PM
Need advice..dating and kidsYou may not want to hear this, but dating women with kids has been extremely problematic. Obviously, this is not the case for everyone, but it has been for me. Parenting styles can be different, treating the children equally can be challenging, and I have found that single mothers have tended to almost be emotionally enmeshed with their children. Especially if the biological father has little involvement. If there are problems early on, they won't get better. There will always be child drama. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/12/25 09:33 PM
Filing for DivorceJust take a deep breath...prepare to endure anything that comes your way. Once you go through it things will definitely get better with time. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/12/25 07:29 PM
