Also even in your example, the woman is still trying to “fix” the bad boy. I never said it was only “damaged” women who do this. I said that media portrays this trope a lot, and many people get their ideas of how relationships work from the media they consume. That’s not the same as being mentally ill.

I also have a nurturing instinct, but the people who trigger that instinct are babies, children and cute animals, not full grown men. I can’t read another woman’s mind but generally most of us try to avoid abusive men. Why would we try and mold a bad man into a good father when we can get a good man who already has the skills to be a good father?

You seem to base this assumption on stereotypes. The vast majority of women will try to avoid assholes wherever they can. Women who seek out “bad boys” do so because they think they can change them. It’s a common trope in media of the bad boy being “redeemed” by his girlfriend. Unfortunately too many people base their reality on these tropes. It could also be that the man tricked the woman into dating him by being nice at the beginning. As the relationship developed he got more mean and abusive.…
