I am contacting a lawyer for a consultation through my EAP tomorrow. So much has happened. I’ll write a detailed update in a couple days. It’s just too much right now.

I respect your opinion, but I don’t think she will do that. And if she does, from everything I’ve seen, the courts look at silver bullet divorces with extreme skepticism. They look at the timing of it, see that she is trying to coerce me into giving up the house, and the fact that there is no history of a single abuse allegation over the course of our 25 year relationship. I’m also a responsible person in every aspect of my personal, financial, and professional life. I’m not going to ask her to …

I love all your ideas. Right now, so much has happened since she got home from work that I simply couldn’t even begin to get into it. We had an amazing 2 hour conversation where we made more progress than we had in years. But I had to leave to do something, so we left our conversation at a great spot. We even hugged and kissed at the end and before I left. Then I came home, and we started talking again. It was going great at first, and then she asked me why I wouldn’t give her the house. She sai…

Thanks. I wrote a speech down in my iPhone notes at work and told her I was going to read it so I don’t get emotional and don’t forget anything. I changed my tactic a little bit. I lead with how I love her, want to stay married to her for the rest of my life, but feel like with the way we are going divorce seems inevitable. I kept my tone very non confrontational and replaced I and you with we. I even said that I’m not accusing or blaming her for anything, and that I accept full responsibility f…

I respect that. If it ends up being a mistake I’ll own it and have no regerts.

I’m thinking more clearly than I ever have. Losing a little bit more money means absolutely nothing to me compared to having the peace of mind of knowing I did everything I could. All the way to the end.

I’m not trying to coerce her into loving me. If she decides she wants to make it work, and is willing to come together as a team to do the work that needs to be done, then I will reciprocate. If she decides that she wants a divorce, or is unwilling to do the work necessary, I am 110% emotionally prepared to file the paperwork. If she comes home tonight and asks me to file, I will do it tomorrow.

I have a consultation with a lawyer set up through my EAP. I honestly don’t care if I end up losing more money in the divorce than I should have. I want to look back in a year and know that I did everything I could to save my marriage. The ONLY regret I would ever have, would be to know that I could have saved my marriage but didn’t.

I can’t even imagine the thought of being with another woman. IF I ever start dating again it’ll be years down the road.

And one day my wife will join the pack and be the one destroying someone else’s happy marriage. It’s gut wrenching.

Thanks. I’ll write a detailed update when I have time. I’m busy all day getting my finances in order. Kids are older. 16 and 23 (living at home while finishing up graduate degree). But I appreciate the advice. And I’m happy for you.

I’ve tried multiple times. Nothing changes. If it does, it lasts a month or two and we get complacent and go back to the same old rut. I can’t do it anymore. I’m at my wits end.

I have and nothing changes. Believe me when I tell you this is our last last chance. I can’t be on this roller coaster every other month. It’s been 25 years.

Thanks brother. I leave work in 30 minutes. I can’t remember my stomach ever being in knots this bad. I haven’t touched alcohol since New Year’s. I might have to smoke a joint after this is done.

Yeah there’s a term for that. I forgot what it’s called where the truth slowly trickles out and it gets minimized. He’s just a coworker. I don’t even talk to him outside work. Oh those text messages are just work related. Stop being so controlling. Yeah the whole office went to the bar, so yeah we were “drinking together”. This is a you problem not me. You’re deeply insecure. So what if we’re going on a trip together. It’s for work. What’s your problem? I didn’t call you or text you for a day be…

I have to try something. I can’t keep being treated like this. We either have to fix our marriage or get a divorce. I honestly don’t see any other way.

How did you find out for sure that she was cheating?

I would never claim to be perfect or blameless. But I don’t deserve to be treated like this. I understand men can be lazy pieces of shit. “If you want to make a woman miserable give her everything she wants” definitely applies to my marriage.

I talk to a counselor every other week. I had some horrible trauma from CSA. I won’t get into the details. But she’s amazing and tells me everything I NEED to hear. Tough fkn broad. Never pulls any punches.

You can’t be disappointed if you don’t have high expectations. I’m honestly just doing it so I won’t look back in 5 years with regret, and wonder to myself if there was anything more I could’ve done. I want to know I tried absolutely everything I could.

They want everything they see other women having. There’s never an opportunity cost. And if they don’t get all of the things they’re entitled to, it’s your fault. You’re holding her back. It truly must be hell living inside the mind of a woman.

I’m sure the hyenas she was hanging around were telling her “You told him not to mow the lawn twice and he did it anyways? He doesn’t care about your feelings girl. That’s emotional abuse. You should divorce him, take everything you’re entitled to, and live the single life. Go be the girlboss you were destined to be.” I’m going to TRY to have a talk with her this week and tell her we have until New Year’s to start marriage counseling. And if there’s not a consistent effort every week to find a c…

Sorry brother. Feels like I’m headed that way too. I don’t know if there’s a word for it. It’s not regret. It’s being able to see it coming at you in slow motion for 3 years, and being powerless to stop it.

3-5 times a month. No complaints there. There wouldn’t be a mourning period. If it ended today, it’d be like watching a terminally ill parent suffer for years. By the time death comes, you’ve already gone through all the stages of grief. I’ve had three years to process everything. At first I was blindsided. Devastated. Then the emotional roller coaster, which I think she enjoyed. It gave her a sense of power. Eventually you just go numb.

It just truly baffles me what goes on inside their heads. They would prefer to fit in with a bunch of dumpy, old, ugly, unloved broads who all go home to their miserable lives and cry themselves to sleep while convincing themselves that they’re empowered feminists. That’s somehow preferable to having a loving relationship with someone who’s known them for 25 years and will be there for them. Long after the pack of hyenas have abandoned her and moved on to the next relationship they want to destr…

I appreciate the advice. I’ve been focused on my physical and mental health my entire adult life. I’m in better shape at 47 than I was at 20. And I did a job in the Air Force that required an elite level of fitness. I box 5-6 days a week. I spar with 25 year olds. I lift weights. I have abs, but not quite a six pack. I eat healthy. I don’t drink. I’m mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared for it. But I’m just not ready to give up yet.

If you’ve never seen the YouTube video “What Women Want by Psychacks” I highly recommend it. I’d try to summarize it for you but I don’t think I could do it justice. Please watch it. I think it’s only about 10 minutes long. It’ll explain your ex wife’s behavior perfectly.

Damn brother, thanks for the reply. You’re right about our lives being the same. I won’t say how much we make, but we both make excellent money, with me making slightly more than her. If I told you how much we made, and that we’re living paycheck to paycheck, your jaw would drop. And when I ask her where our money goes, I get accused of being abusive. I’ve been accused of all the pop psychology bullshit buzzwords. The good news for me is that if we get divorced I’ll be set up financially. Just 1…

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. And to be honest with you, she couldn’t blindside me with anything at this point. I’m emotionally prepared for anything. I’ve been on such a roller coaster of emotions over the last couple years, that I’ve just had to disconnect in order to protect myself. Every day when I wake up, I tell myself this is the last day I’ll ever see her again. That way if the day comes, it won’t be a shock. I just have a “prepare for and expect the worst, and if it doesn’t happen th…

They enjoy the power of keeping you on an emotional roller coaster. I think the technical term for it is “push-pull”. So let her push you away, and when she tries to pull you back in, become a rock. I know it’s not easy. I’m not minimizing how difficult it will be at first. But like OP says one day it’ll just click. Emotional control is a skill. It’s just like a physical skill. It has to be developed through practice, experience, and repetition. I have the following words written on my pocket ca…

Yes. We all think we’re tough and it won’t happen to us. But there are PREDATORS out there looking for prey like you. Take your time.
/r/Divorce_Men07/10/25 01:59 AM

Please take your time. There are a lot of women who prey on men like you. I know you don’t think it, but you are very vulnerable. These women are predators, and they will take advantage of you, drain you emotionally and financially, and leave you devastated.
