Try bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rolling Stones, Metallica and ACDC to get a taste of popular metal. You might know some of their songs as they are occasionally played on the radio.There are a ridiculous number of bands and subgenres, so the only way to find what you like is by listening. Personally I enjoy death metal, hardcore punk and groove.
