I think everyone secretly knew this is what the movie was going to be, especially after finding out Lady Gaga was in it and it was a musical. It immediately felt like it was going to divert from what the first film was really about. And it did.

Women will talk about how they want men to express their emotions more, and they'll talk about how it's men holding their emotions back that creates "toxic masculinity" But women don't want men to express their emotions, they want to know men feel emotions. If a man is ever angry, or sad, there's a noticeably detestable response from women. Men are often labeled abusive for simply expressing the emotion of anger.

It's always been pretty obvious that women cheat more than men do, and that men just get caught more often and don't word themselves into a justification for it like a lot of women try to do. Women get sex a lot easier than men do, and they're tempted with it a lot more than men are, so it just makes sense that they would cheat more. I don't even know if I can blame them for it much... I can't even imagine the chaos of a world where men get sex that easily lol. The whole world would collapse

Making anything men do together a gay thing just sounds homophobic and objectifying. They're perpetuating the same toxic behaviors a lot of them likely condemn. Men don't get much from therapy as it exists right now, it's very much designed for women. Sitting down and talking about your feelings while a therapist tries to tell you what's wrong with you and why just simply doesn't help most men. Retreats like this are great. Men need to help men, and that's effectively what this retreat promotes.

There's no such thing as toxic masculinity. There are just flawed personality traits that people falsely attribute to masculinity.

Social media is run by specific people who design their algorithms to deliver certain world views and sets of beliefs. It's really that simple. Reddit is run by people who vehemently oppose men.

This shit is annoying for sure, but it’s not that uncommon. A group of teenage boys can be dangerous… They will do things to impress and shock eachother that otherwise would be out of character for them. You got to man up a bit tho. You can’t just fold and whimper like this. Your situational awareness seems low, and really its your responsibility to keep yourself safe and defend yourself… Nobody is obligated to call the police for you or help you. You should join a boxing gym or an MMA gym. Pay …

I actually think the interaction is an example of what men and women need more of. I also think it's hard to disagree with her. People do make a mockery of SA against women, although they're also taken much more seriously much more often than cases of SA against men. But I also think you should be able to joke about anything. It doesn't desensitize people, and it serves a healthy function in both society and people.

I don’t see how it does. Both men and women would be even more scared alone with a bear in the woods. Women actually do get lost in the woods sometimes, and without a bear present… It’s always a man who saves them.

It would be normal for a man or a woman to have feelings of caution and feeling unsafe around another random man in the woods. This question isn’t an argument.

He's a Catholic man espousing traditional Catholic beliefs. This never should've even been a story. Whether what he says is true or not, he's entitled to follow his faith. The western media isn't going into mosques and recording Muslims espousing beliefs of Islam, the media wouldn't dare report on such a thing (yet.) The western governments (and by extension western media) hates religion just as they hate men. It diverts power from them.

It's not even a knock on women either. Women need time away from men, and men need time away from women. The thing is, society currently tells us men don't deserve time away from women, that it's "oppressive", but then they also say women NEED time away from men. "Therapy" as we understand it now doesn't help men, but disguising therapy in the form of these clubs/retreats/spaces away from women will inevitably help men, boys, and all of society. Men are told we are evil for our masculinity, and …

I love what you're doing with The Tin Men blog. There's no vitriol within your work, it's not a target at women, it's a billboard for men and boys. You're one of few giving a real meaningful voice for men and boys' issues. I think people do hate those subs, but Reddit users and Reddit themselves are generally left-leaning feminist types, so it really just comes down to that, unfortunately. Reddit absolutely dislikes that this sub even exists, and are likely doing things to suppress it's exposure. I was more speaking to the things that I think are controllable here. Dopamine. Women like adventure, and chaos/unpredictability is mildly exciting before it causes the crash and burn. It’s becoming more prevalent I would guess because social media is designed to create a dopamine addiction in people, and so people eternally pursue what gives them dopamine without much thought or self reflection.

This is also true for Canadian law. Feminists here lobbied against the changing of this law as well. People who claim feminists don’t hate men and boys are just clueless. Those who identify with feminism as an idea and those who exercise and enforce it are different kinds of people. Only hateful people are at the helm of feminism as an active ideology.

I don't believe "toxic masculinity" exists, neither does toxic femininity... I do think the term "toxic femininity" should exist if they insist on the versa... But toxicity doesn't come from masculinity or femininity, it comes from the individual. Toxic behavior is toxic, masculinity and femininity are not inherently toxic.
/r/MensRights20/11/23 08:26 PM
7

My biggest gripe with the idea of "toxic masculinity" is that it places blame on masculinity... It tells you that something is wrong about masculinity, that it is the root of whatever evil or wrong a man commits... Masculinity isn't toxic, toxic behavior is toxic. Conflating the two is unhelpful and just creates a confusing distraction from the real problem; society as a whole is becoming more toxic and self destructive.

The Way of Men by Jack Donovan defines masculinity pretty well, although it acknowledges that masculinity is hard to define objectively. Different men define masculinity as different things. I don't think there's anything wrong with holding men to a high standard, but men should also be allowed to hold women to a high standard.

Figures like Andrew Tate exist precisely because of this kind of shit. If you tell a generation of boys they are wrong or bad for being boys, they'll naturally gravitate to anybody who tells them they're good and worthy and not wrong. Feminism and anti-male ideas are why Andrew Tate exists, and why young men and boys feel so empowered by him.

“Who we are has a lot to do with how we see ourselves in relationship to other males, as members of the male group. A man is not merely a man but a man among men, in a world of men. An important part of your reply is the misogynist part... It's still not okay to be misogynistic here, it does not serve anyone or anything to be misogynistic. Now, the definition of misogynistic is pretty loose and vague, so there is some grey area. Men shouldn't hate women as a group just because lots of women hate men as a group. That harms the reputation of groups like these, that work moreso as services/resources for men and boys. I find great value in this subreddit, I would hate to see it…

I think in the last few years, there's been a bit of a pendulum swing in regards to culture and the dynamics between men and women. I believe it will balance out a bit more over the next 2 decades. There's so much media fueled hostility between men and women, and so much injustice and finger pointing... It's really sad to me. Social media and news media have far too much control over the way everyone sees the world and eachother, it breeds toxicity in any subgroup of people you can imagine... Th…

This gives me hope. Women like her amaze me. I don’t understand people sometimes.

Nobody should be mutilating baby dicks. Religion or culture aren’t excuses for such things.

I agree, I think people often conflate toxicity in general with toxic masculinity.

It is quite annoying, it’s a bit odd too because some day those people might have sons or already have sons… It confuses me how comfortable they are dismantling the mechanisms by which all men navigate the world. There is a loss of utility when you castrate a young boy of his masculinity. I’m far more concerned about the next generation of boys, will they been socially rendered into numbness, confusion, more than men are even today. All the young boys and young men of tomorrow might be entirely …

I definitely would like some more positive posts here, I think a sector of this sub could be utilized to create an informative and inspiring place for men and boys.

It’s pretty crazy. almost nothing here is anti-woman or misogynistic, and of the few things that could be represented as such, I have only seen men here condemn those people. I think this sub is a good, healthy environment for men and some teen boys to understand their rights and understand what masculinity is and how to utilize it to be a good, productive person. I would never support the putting-down-of or belittling of either sex, my existence here isn’t in support of being anti-woman or miso…

There really aren't many useful resources for boys regarding mental health and education. Therapy and counselling generally isn't designed to help boys the way it is designed to help girls, and the same is generally true for education. I feel sad for the next generation of boys who will be belittled and shut down and vilified for simply existing.

my grandfathers life was ruined in a similar situation… his wife was horribly abusive to him and their children, my mother included… He managed to get away from her, but she scarred him so deeply that he never remarried and hardly interacted with women for the rest of his life. For most of my life you couldn’t even mention her or he would get PTSD. he was the only man in the history of my region to gain custody of children over the mother when he did in the 80s as well… crazy how many women prob…
