I know. All I'm saying is that I'm surprised that people discuss this issue disregarding the political situation.

I doubt so. If you were in an LGBT-promoting band and an LGBT advocate, you better speak up now and say something to get your head out off the sling. I'm not saying I like it, I like heroes as much as anyone but people are scared. I'm just not surprised.

I am surprised that no one brought it up but are you aware that under the Russian LGBT propaganda law she is legally forbidden to say anything else?

I'm glad I could help. I think it's great that you're educating yourself and standing up for this course. If you're interested in help finding reliable statistics or further discussing this topic feel free to PM me.

The 1in3 was not from an online source but from a statistics book. I will see if I can find an online version or an equally reliable online source tomorrow. One in six is relatively popular. You could look at 1in6.org which is really good and up to date or look at jimhopper.com, he's the one who originally did research in the 1990s and founded the 6in1 project. Females: it's one in 4-5 who gets beaten at home and 1in3 when it comes to sexual abuse. Reliable statistics about women and girls can b…

I feel that it's always good to stick with one topic at a time. I always want to talk about the abuse of boys and men when the "rape culture" discussion is on the table, simply because I majored in Cultural Studies with a focus on masculinity studies and I did a lot of research on male abuse/domestic violence victims. But the best reaction you get is a "I acknowledge that men are victims too but I'm talking about women atm" which is why I usually address the idea of "teaching our boys not to rap…

What the fuck is wrong with you people? If this was a girl being beaten up, the whole female community would freak. (and rightfully so.) I can't believe that there actually are people who call him a pussy in the MensRights subreddit. This is a teenage boy for fuck's sake. Hey, OP, don't let anyone tell you that it's your fault. If someone attacks you physically, it's their fault, never yours. I'm sorry that your parents didn't support you right but please don't believe that you deserved any of t…

Does a fiancé have the same rights? An ex boyfriend and I fake-engaged when he had a complicated surgery with a long recovery process and a 10€ sterling silver ring opened a few doors for me... I'm not living in the US though. Good luck to you and your family.

I beg to differ. Girls are not more likely to get raped. And I have no idea how people can walk around and say things like that as if they were perfectly clear. We have statistics that say 1/4girls is molested and 1/6boys and that's only the cases that are being reported (sorry for repeating what was said before but it applies and is what drove me so mad about this comment on fb) which basically means: we can't be sure, but it's likely to be a similar number. Child molestation is not a question …

In a way.... But somehow it struck me how hating men or regarding men as a threat can go as far as invalidating the experiences of children.

I agree with what /u/unbannable9412 had to say about this. I'm not saying we shouldn't discuss gender-specific problems that occur. But there is no reason to talk about child molestation like its a female-exclusive problem. The article was written for the #yesallwomen campaign. In my comment I didn't mean to say that we shouldn't talk about sexual violence against girls or should focus on boys instead. All I was saying is: this is not a question of gender. This happens to all children and that i…

Thanks! Basically these statistics are why I responded to the article in the first place and I did incorporate the 1in6 statistic into my second response. I wasn't even commenting to prove them wrong on anything, I think it's fine to write an article about how girls experience sexual abuse- why the hell not, this topic needs attention. I just wanted to say that we shouldn't speak about child molestation as if it was a female-exclusive problem. Which it's not. Thank you- especially for the second…

A few things I want to add. *The commenter wasn't the author. *I responded by saying something along the lines of: we're talking about child molestation how could you possibly be offended by the idea that ALL children should be protected. *I had to share it because I feel so sick to my stomach right now. In a way...hopeless.

You are absolutely right. A term like this can only survive in a community that believes to own The Truth. I have played "devil's"/men's advocate too many times and am still upset whenever I realise that I only get the chance to talk about things like domestic violence against boys and men in the first place because I'm a woman. (sexism, that is) It's horrifying. I am grateful for every man who still speaks up...though I am aware of the frustration it bears to speak up on your own behalf and not …

There are a few things I want to point out. The last national crime survey of victimization stated that in the US 38% of rape incidents were against men. If you consider this a biased source, you may want to read this slate article too. I want to add that 1in 6 boys have been molested as kids and there are numerous laws which don't even count the raping of boys as rape - for example the UK. We have yet to come a long way to equality. But I think it is dangerous to use sexual violence as an examp…

No healthy everyday normal dude walks around killing girls because he is deprived of female attention or because he is interested in the MRM or Red Pill. (they already get mixed up, it's frustrating to no end.) I read one comment that stated: people will use the term "mental illness" to cover up his real motif: mysoginy (Same comment included the words patriarchy, Rape Culture, Violence against women). It's disgusting to no end. One mentally disturbed dude killed six girls. This is horrible and …

I so hope that this rape survivor gets all the support he needs to both deal with the assault and the additional cruelty he was met with when courageously speaking up. This case of a man being violated is not a only a political issue. There is a person involved and I seriously can't seem to understand how one can be so blind for that. It is frustrating - although unfortunately no longer shocking or surprising- how people can be so focused on their political agenda that personal suffering doesn't…

I personally don't give half of a fuck about what girls wear to school. What upsets me is this rhetoric of "teaching girls to be afraid of boys" and "rape culture." I went to a school where I could wear whatever and I pretty much did. when I was wearing a short skirt or a cropped top I knew that it would invite people to stare. The awareness that some male student could stare didn't make me afraid of men. Also my wearing cropped shirts didn't make any of my fellow students attempt to rape me... …

I refuse to label myself a feminist at the moment because I can't stand the associations. I will still follow the discussions and be devils advocate when needed. I don't know if I want to label myself again. I tend to say that I'm an MRA, but basically I'm just a woman who does men's studies that is trying to be a decent person. Lol.

It wasn't a college situation... As I did gender studies university was a safe haven. A few radicals and a vast majority of people who really wanted to discuss gender issues. I just finished my thesis on Alcohol and Masculinity in 1940/50s America and had great support, even though it clearly is men's studies. It's my every day life/ the internet I am more worried about. -.-

Thank you for saying this. I'm grateful to see that I am met with so much compassion in this sub. I was very insecure whether or not it was the appropriate place to talk about my experience. To find like minded people can be very useful when aiming to stay sane in an environment that seems so irrational.

Thank you...although it makes me sad that basing ones opinion on facts and compassion should be anything else than expectable. Still I am often too harsh with self-proclaimed feminists. I forget that I talk about gender from a personal, but mostly scientific perspective whereas the average person who calls themselves a feminist has no scientific perspective whatsoever and might base their believes solely on personal experiences.

That's the one argument I'm always too scared to bring up. If the argument goes: It's okay to not deal with men's problems because men historically were 'the oppressor' for centuries,....well then all the white ladies better shut up now. I personally believe that it is fine to fight for women's rights wherever they are violated. That means: Whenever they really are violated. On a structural level. Which is not the case if a woman deliberately chooses to lead a more conservative lifestyle that do…

I know this will come across as naive but I was mostly surrounded with the first type throughout my life,... The ones which you could tell, when you thought something was a general issue or that there were many men who suffered from a similar struggle without getting punched for it. I knew one group of radfems who were honest enough to say that they were exclusively interested in women's right (consequently not very interesting for me personally) but the majority that surrounded me were just lib…

I think you are pretty much right on this one, although I find it sad. Everyone has their story to tell. I have been stalked, attacked and death-threatened for two years and the first thing I did after this stopped was start psychotherapy. ( I was utterly scared that the PTSD I displayed would result in me being scared of men/treating nice men unfairly just because I experienced one individual who did me great harm.) did I have a horrible experience because of a dude? Yes. Is every man a potenti…

I found it really ridiculous to tell me that men should stand up for their course while condemning MRAs. It's always the same double standard that makes me cringe. I want to have this conversation, seriously. I think it's important to discuss gender-related issues- on both sides. But domestic violence affects everyone. I think it would be fair enough for them to say:I'm only interested in women's rights so I'm only concerned with what happens to them. But to do that you would have to admit that …

Oh that's good to know. I remember having read statistics about the amount of women who used lethal weapons when attacking their partners but I couldn't find them and I didn't want to say it without scientific proof you see...-.-

I am a woman who is utterly interested in men's rights. I've defined myself as a feminist for almost ten years since my teenage years. I am a curious girl who likes science and majored in English-Speaking Cultures. My main focus was' beauty ideals and standards' which switched to 'gender related violence'. I found it weird that I had tons of books and articles on violence against women and that it was easy to find scientific data, but no data about violence against men whatsorever. (I found it h…

I find it sad how people tend to not regard beating up children as a gender issue. Where I live, one in three male children has experienced violence. Statistically this kid is beaten by a relative, someone who is at the same time protecting him and telling him that they love him. Many of these boy have internalised the idea that they can deserve physical punishment. I have lots of male friends who firmly believe that if they misbehave bad enough it's perfectly normal that their partners may occa…

I personally think what your teacher said should be true for everyone...? I don't push my partner, make sure they are enjoying what we are doing and if my partner wants to stop, I stop- regardless of their gender. I think to express that you don't want to go on/ don't want to do a certain thing and expecting the partner to stop is different from going along with it and afterwards saying that you wouldn't have wanted it.
