I’d also love to know! I haven’t found any that don’t look scammy/ask you for money to get any info.

I feel like one important factor here is the nature of his job and the reason he’s doing it. Did he just take the first desk job he could find that meets his basic financial needs, with no aspirations or enough work ethic to move up? Or is he doing some kind of not-for-profit work that he’s truly passionate about and that is helping others/the world in some way, but that can’t pay much because that type of work just doesn’t by design? I agree with others that 5 months is too soon to tell whether…

My birthday is coming up later this month, and my friend is coming to visit me from out of town (plenty of covid precautions in place). We booked this beaaaautiful glamping tent out in the country for that weekend, on a property with farm animals that you can pet and a bakery. My friend suggested we upgrade to the fancy “Date Night” package which includes a giant charcuterie board, desserts from the bakery and a bottle of wine, and I just wanted to put out a little PSA that you can still have su…

I think it just depends on what you want. Maybe take the Marie Kondo approach and see if spending time with them sparks any joy when you are keeping the conversation purely superficial. I think it’s okay to have hobby friends if you get an overall positive experience out of doing that hobby with someone else, regardless of the conversation involved. But if having deeper conversations is important to you in every friendship and you’d be just as happy to do that hobby alone, then axe them.

Imagine having nothing better to do with your time than lurk on a subreddit you’re not even allowed to participate in, waiting to write an angry DM to a stranger on the internet who dared to insult his Royal Idiocy, rather than trying to perform just a single iota of introspection and actually better yourself. Smdh.

Totally, totally get that! And I know it sucks. Breaking out of any comfortable situation into the unknown is terrifying. But you're not happy right now either, are you? As hard as it will be while you're in the midst of it, making this change will only lead to you being happier in the long run. You could try talking to him about this first but honestly, it sounds like he's not invested in the relationship anymore and I wouldn't expect that to change. Take a couple of days to process and make a …

If someone isn’t adding anything positive to your life, you definitely have no obligation to keep them there. That being said, if it were me I would spell out exactly what the issue is before ending things, in the same way you’ve explained it to us here. By making it clear that it’s the extreme pickme behavior that’s caused the friendship to end, you may be giving her a better chance at change.

Oh yikes, all the more proof that this is something they CHOOSE to do! It sounds to me like he was putting in the effort to be respectful until things got comfortable and he thought he was “safe”, and now he feels like he can get away with it. Of the people I’ve dated long-term (a few years), they definitely haven’t done this either. Him saying he’s “hypersexual” just screams red flag to me, because it’s so often used as an excuse for shit like this (and even for outright cheating). Men can cont…

I honestly can’t think of a single guy I’ve dated who’s done that. Plenty were LVM for other reasons, but all of them had the basic decency not to look at anyone else while they were with me. “All men do it” is the same as “boys will be boys” - it’s them trying to manipulate us into thinking that gross and disrespectful behavior is okay.

I don’t think you’re being a pessimist, just realizing how things are. I’m in my late 20’s now, and had put up with SO much bad behavior prior to this point simply because I was naive and didn’t know any better. Most men are LVM. Most men are selfish and don’t think of women as actual human beings. It’s great that you’re figuring that out early because it’s going to save you that many more years of mistreatment and being used. Now with that said, there are HVM out there - the situation isn’t hop…

Staring is something he can control. It’s not instinctual, despite what he might want you to believe. By choosing not to control it he is blatantly being disrespectful to you. I’d say that’s a pretty big deal. I completely get wanting to hold on to someone because they have interests similar to yours, especially when those interests are unique. You might feel like you’ll never find someone else who shares them and that therefore you should look the other way at this, but you absolutely can. It w…

As a good friend of mine once told me, “as soon as they get what they want, you may as well have never met”. Why is this such common behavior among men now? Why are SO MANY of them getting away with repeatedly treating other human beings like garbage? This is what makes me happy to stay single for a looooong time.

I feel this. After a pretty bad year+ (for numerous reasons, including using men to try to validate myself and fill a void in my life which ultimately led to having my confidence sunk even lower by N/LVM), I have been using this time in quarantine to focus 100% on leveling myself up. I’ve been eating better, exercising more (I picked up some home workout routines I’m quite happy with), waking up and going to bed earlier and getting enough sleep, working harder and spending more time on various p…

In my experience, “I’d like to ___ “ never equates to “I am actually hardworking and ambitious and taking active steps to do ____ “. Drop him!

That’s awesome! Honestly, they should teach this stuff in school. What I wouldn’t give to have found this community when I was teenager.

I just found this sub last week and I am already learning SO much. I cannot tell you how much comfort it has brought me to find out that there is a whole community of women just like me, who’ve had exactly the same shitty, confidence-destroying dating experience as me, and who have come together to build each other up and develop methods to ensure we never have to invest time or energy (or imo the worst of all - actual feelings) into N/LVM ever again. I am so grateful to have found this communit…

I feel like these are probably yellow flags at this point. It’s possible he has legitimate reasons for those. But (more likely, imo) they could definitely also be pointing to larger red flags, so I’d say unless you’re really interested in him for other reasons, pass. And if you decide not to pass, continue to be wary and careful and axe him if another flag emerges.
