I'm reasonably certain the part of a woman's brain that processes logic dies off in early menopause.

She said she wanted a divorce just over a year ago, she finally moved out a month ago, today my watch notified me that my resting heart rate has dropped from mid 60s to mid 50s. Taking that as proof that I am at least less stressed, despite whatever other emotions are going on.

As sick as it may sound I'm jealous of you. I'm 10 months out from my wife telling me she wants a divorce but she still hasnt actually left and has no intention of leaving until finances have been sorted out. House is 100% mine but apparently my legal options for removing her are limited. If she had just gone when she first said she wanted to I wouldnt have had the months of "maybe shes just in a mood and can work things out". In a lot of ways I think a clean break would have been a lot healthie…

And me. I do wonder if these women ever figure this out for themselves. My marriage is unrecoverable at this point but I would like her one day to have some regrets, if not even about what she did just about the way she did it. Also looking forward to the kids being adults and asking either of us “why did you really get divorced?”

If it makes you feel any better my stbxw managed to trick me into taking on nearly £40k of debt buying her a car and paying off her credit cards before she decided she was done with me. Ultimately its all going to balance out in the divorce settlement, and theres pretty much a zero chance of her actually giving you the money back, so I wouldn't bother mentioning it.

Recently went on my first post separation holiday with the kids. It was just a couple of days exploring a city we'd never been to but doing it without her was like a breath of fresh air. There was no judgement, no nagging, no criticising, no fights in the airport about how quickly we should get to the gate. At one point I took a wrong turn and we walked down the wrong road for a bit, when I realised I felt my body tense up in preparation for the judgement and to be called an idiot, but the kids …

It's painful how often I read the exact same story on this subreddit, a little bit comforting that what I'm going through is in no way unique though.

There's only one person I blame, and you're not her. To echo all the other comments, take time, grieve. Soon little moments of positivity will start entering your life, gradually there will be more and more of them. Its a long path and its not always in a straight line but things do get better.

7 months since she said she wanted a divorce. She’s still in the spare room. House is solely in my name so I’m not going anywhere. It’s awkward as hell and I do not recommend. We’re mainly sticking to our old routine, communicating via text when it’s absolutely necessary. I think we’ve made eye contact twice since Christmas. Totally a healthy environment for the kids!

Posts like this are the reason I'm in this sub. Its a little bit scary but also kind of reassuring that my situation is in no way unique and the exact same scenario plays out to millions of other married men all over the world. If it was just me maybe I could do what you suggest and give her some grace, but with what shes putting our children through I dont see how that will ever be possible. Super agree with giving up on trying to understand whats going on. Trying to apply logic to a situation …

Awesome post. I'm at month 5 and I'm feeling like I'm through the darkest patch. I keep getting these small moments where I realise how much freedom I suddenly have. That piece of furniture that I hate, or that ugly piece of artwork, I can just replace it! I don't have to discuss it with anyone, negotiate, get told that I have horrible taste and am wrong, I can just do it. It seems every week or two I stumble across something that's bugged me for years but I put up with it because she liked it a…

If you both stay amicable then a 50/50 split of all your combined assests is the most likely outcome. You dont mention pensions but given the income differences I assume parent 1 has a way bigger pension pot, dont forget to include that when doing the sums. If custody is 50/50 then parent 2 will get a surprisingly large amount of universal credit so probably wont need to worry about working more hours, and parent 1 will probably be able to get away with no / minimal maintenance payments. Dependi…
