I dated a colonel for a couple of years (she was in the medical corps) so I became more aware about US military rank based on her stories and protocol I learned. One thing was “rank doesn’t matter at the supermarket” and she was always courteous to enlisted personnel in uniform she encountered at the market when she too was in uniform. One year I went to a huge officers ball held in Honolulu with her; that was an experience and I made sure to study up on rank insignia so I didn’t screw up when m…

I am in the same boat (unstable friend) and get labelled as “condescending” whenever my advice does not dovetail with her world view. She then follows that up with, “I did MY work; you need to get therapy.” This is a gal who began referring to herself as a widow when her ex passed away two years after the divorce she filed was finalized.

On Monday I identified as a straight heterosexual man who likes women, just as I have for years. I was vilified. On Tuesday I identified as a giraffe, and I was celebrated and embraced. On Wednesday I went back to being what I was on Monday, which apparently is a hate crime against giraffes. Or something.

The title of this post EGG-ZACT-IL-EE describes a gal I’ve known for 21 years. Age 47, spurned the classmate/great guy (now a great dentist) after she graduated college (“I didn’t want to settle at age 23”), is always pushing her now-diminishing good looks (she used to model) innumerable jerk BFs, one ex-hubby who drank, at least two beatdowns by other women...the only thing wrong is the pet count: 3 cats and three dogs. She’s never wrong, and it’s never her fault.

My ex-wife was like this, always going to therapy. One day after years of this I finally asked the therapist if she (Wife) would get any better. The therapist looked at me funny and said, “No habla ingles.” Thank you; I’m here all week. Actually, what the therapist really said was, “No, because she doesn’t want to.”

Back in my 30’s I had a friend who did modeling and thought she was the cat’s meow. Keep in mind I am 1000% percent straight (now divorced since 2012 when ex ran off with former best friend.) One night at a dance place in So Cal she began to get very full of herself and capped it with: “I’ll bet you this $50 bill I can get ANY man in this place. ANY man!” She proceeds to put the $50 on the bar. I pick it up, and put in my wallet. She: “What the hell are you doing?!??” Me: “You said you could get…

Surprised Pikachu face, because I “went there.” I also knew she had declined a marriage proposal in her mid-20s from a great guy who loved her dearly because “I just wanted to find myself.” He moved on, married, has a family, great career. She’s single, late 40’s now with 3 cats & 3 dogs, and the Wall has not been kind. She has good taste in wine, though.

I dated a hot Israeli gal (medical nurse) for two years and really cared about her. However, I was always uneasy about how she spoke of her “man friends” and how she would get them to do shit like fix her car or install a TV system. Did not see this part about 4 years and the “cold close” you’re about to do. I parted after 5 when in my 20s when it became clear “she” couldn’t be a partner. 30+ years later her mom still contacts me to say it was the biggest mistake her daughter ever made and the daughter is still kicking herself in a marriage she “settled” for with a guy who reneged on having a family, made her change religious faiths and who has a gambling problem. TCRex— “Men can establish boundaries too; it isn’t just a females’ privilege.” This is the mantra I go by and yes, a gal on our first & only date heard this after she spent ten minutes verbalizing on her “Men Should Have...” list, seemingly without breathing. Front line recruiter at whatever company = “Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist” is my pet peeve. I live in Hawaii and there are tons of women like this here, especially Maui. I had one tell me she lived in a “treehouse cottage” where she “practiced” holistic healing, natural nutrition, yoga, etc. in other words, a clone of the lady that made headlines by disappearing for 17 days while hiking on Maui because she got lost after meditating on a log. Or something.

That child support check reminds me of the last one I wrote...it was prorated to coincide with the day my son graduated from high school. I also enclosed a note reminding her that she needed to add him to her medical coverage the same day. I handed the check to her the moment my kid was handed his diploma and walked down the stairs.

I live in Hawaii and you would not believe the number of “Ooooh, May the Blessings of the Oneness Rain upon You as the Lotus Blooms from the Navel of the Siddharta!” spiritual healers/life coaches/yoga instructors that populate the place, particularly on Maui where there’s $$$. I had one tell me she lived in a “treehouse cottage” where she “practiced”.

Congrats! I see it is RHD; I’m guessing you direct imported it? I did the same for my 1990 Suzuki Jimny 4x4 RHD that I brought in from Japan; to my knowledge it’s the only one on the Big Island of Hawaii. You’ll probably have strangers offering to buy your rig right out from under you! 😆 🤙

This cartoon reminds me of the band The Flying Lizards and their cover version of “Money (That’s What I Want)” where the female vocalist does the lyrics spoken word style in an haughty voice— classic stuff (it’s on YT).

Hang in there, brother; I lost my dad to Lou Gehrig’s Disease in February 2019. I made the end-of-life decision on his behalf and had the doctors tell me what buttons to push, etc., because I didn’t want anyone else doing it. My landscape has definitely been colored since

Sadly, profiles like this are the norm on the Hawaiian Islands, particularly Maui (I live on the Big Island). “I believe in organic gardening and off-grid living, keeping my urine in a 5 gallon bucket for use in my garden.” Go ahead, laugh. But it’s real. “...and may the Blessings of the Oneness rain upon you as the Lotus blooms from the Navel of the Siddhartha.” Saying this nonsense iactually backfired on me once— “Ooh, I feel SUCH a connection to you already!”

Reeves reminds me of actor John Corbin, another totally down to earth actor. I was on a late night shoot, and it was “lunchtime”. Corbin came over to where the effects guys and grips are hanging out (sitting on boxes, brown bagging it), pulls out HIS brown bag “Hey, howzit going? May I join you?” Utterly unassuming, like the helpful Home Depot guy. Finally someone asked half jokingly about sitting with us (“Dude, this really rare...”) and Corbin said, “No man, you guys are the really cool ones b…

I saw it last night and I admit to rolling my eyes during that slow motion “wimmen-folk gather ‘round their sistah to kick ass” scene. As for Captain Marvel, Larson seemed to portray her far more aloof (think Batman aloof) this time around, like helping Earth was kind of a “I’m too busy” PITA. Did anyone else notice the AUDIO clip at the very very end of the credits before the theater lights came on? It was the sound of Ironman forging his first suit in the cave; a great circular reference. Ever…

What you’re reading is pretty close to some of the profiles you see here in Hawaii...lots of healers, spiritual, health, “May the Blessings of the Oneness rain upon you as the Lotus blooms from the navel of the Siddharta...”-types. Those skateboard park videos reminded me when I took my son to the indoor Van’s skatepark in Orange, CA...it was my kid’s first time trying to skate and he was on a two-wheeled razor. I watched him with the other parents for 20 minutes...I was the typical skateboarder in the 70’s doing pools, Big O Skatepark in my teens, and hadn’t skated in 30 years (this was in 2011)...I went to the counter and said, “Set me up” (the dudes behind the counter: “Are you SURE?? I have actually done the “premature end” to a date on several occasions; the common denominator is that the women were addicted to their phones: Her (with face in phone): “How come you aren’t saying anything?” Me: “I figured you might be texting the dog or cat sitter. I left my phone in my car because I was looking forward to paying attention to you.” Her: “Oh, ok.” (Not paying attention to what I just said, she goes back to her phone) — The waiter arrives with the expensive glass of wine or dri…
