Thanks so much for this post. I'm month 9 and much better but still get sad. I still haven't figured out how to love myself. Hitting the gym, selling the house (that saddens me) on the search for a new job (just got shit canned). Selling cars etc. divorce is going nowhere fast have a mediation session next week if that doesn't move the needle I'm telling my lawyer to just file and be done with this. Starting to date, met one girl I like just one date so far but scheduling a second in a week or s…

Advice from the group. I had 3 dates this weekend. One of them I like and am hoping to set up another date next week. I've got a few other matches that I could reach out to, thoughts on whether to keep options open or focus on the one for now?

Thanks for the support guys. I was married 25 years with her for 30 years and she betrayed me and she did it over course of years and lied to my face. I just can't seem to drop the idea that she was my best friend even though I know she really wasn't. It's just so sad to me because I thought she was somebody completely different. So it comes in waves. It also saddens me how it's affecting my kids. They're older but my youngest is in his senior year in high school. He's 18 and he has a lot of ang…

Did the sadness go away? I still have that even though she betrayed me. I'm 8 months in. I'm a hell.of a lot better than i was a few months ago but still have that lingering background sadness that rears its head every so often.

Yeah I agree with all of this but I also get trapped in sadness because I miss the best friend who I thought she was but she wasn't. It's so fucked up. Overall tho time does dull it but it's still there.

Yes feel the same. I get a match have initial excitement and then either it peters out in the app, they say the want to meet and never do, or I rethink whether I want to pursue or not. Same as you I've had one situationshio which has resulted in a friendship (she wants more I don't). Yes OLD sucks and dating sucks.

Hi, I'm 6 months into separation. No filing yet but have met with a mediator. Was married 25 years, together for almost 30. I'm 51 and facing moving out of my home and moving to I don't know where yet (I work from home but need access to an airport). I have to move away from where I am as it's suburbia and I just don't see a possibility of meeting someone new. So it's probably a move somewhere and a total restart at age 51. I have not reconciled myself to being alone. So I've been on dating apps…

I'm also sorry for your pain. I am almost 6 months out from separation. I'm on new meds so don't know if that's the reason but for the most part my feelings have changed. I have my moments when I shed tears, mostly in disbelief but I'm starting to move on from the pain. It does get better but it takes time.

I'm 5 months separated and I think I'm getting worse not better. I'm still in the family home with my son who I see 5-10 min a day. I am still broken hearted even tho she cheated on me. I'm very despondent about my future, will have to stay in family home until my son graduates but house will be for sale. Have no family close by and work remotely so have no natural place to call home. feel like I need to move away to heal but don't know where I will go. I invested everything in her and her famil…

Oh God I recognize myself in the description of this book. I'm 51 and I struggle to commit to self help. I feel like it's too late. Think if I read this book I will collapse as it will bring home everything I hate about myself.

I have my kids with me right now and I think they are done with me. But I can't not think about it. Also my confidence is completely shot. Gone in dates and can't connect at all feel like I've got nothing to contribute to the conversation. Man I fucked myself pretty good.

My life is ruined she doesn't care. I still love her I think, I am destroying myself. She doesn't really care. Why love someone like that. She betrayed me.

I feel the same but then we are fucked. I'm thinking of moving from MA to AZ close to family and working east coast time (I can do it as almost all remote) but creating a new network, fucking heat etc,.working remote alone is fucking doing my head in. But MA is burnt for me I think at least for a while.

Oh man this post hit me. I've been a mess. Also high level executive, I'm 3.5 months into separation, 6 months in from finding out about affair. I have fucking cried almost every day for months. I'm losing most of my network (her family) the places I loved (associated with her and her family). I have not moved on at all. Have proclaimed my love, have had nasty phone calls, have almost packed it in, have not moved process forward one but, she has moved on tho. I am destroyed. I still have my kids…

Sorry you are going through this. I'm in kind of similar situation, my family is 3 and 5 hours away, so it's hard and really lonely. I have a few friends aroun and my 17 year old son (never see him as he is off with friends as much as he can). Hang in there I'm struggling also but hope things get better over time

Yeah it's fucking nuts. I got the well that was our chosen role bullshit. She hasn't worked in 20 years. Kids have been self sufficient for years. I was so stupid in enabling her. Did the same thing to me, fucks and gets into a relationship with another guy. Fucks the whole family up, blows up our finances and future plans, and then has the entitlement attitude to the alimony. Fuck this world man.

Wow am inspired by your ability to start again at 65. I'm 50, wife left for her AP, our network was basically her family for the most part. I loved her and didn't see it coming. Realize now i invested way too much in trying to make her happy and dit it the wrong way by always catering and trying to achieve at work to make sure we were safe financially and had a good lifestyle. meanwhile I lost myself also realized I married too young. Was early 20s and didn't have a clue needed to have more life…

It's amazing so many of us go through the same shit. Feel the same sometimes especially at night when can't sleep. I'm still in the thick of it so great to hear there is light at the end of the tunnel. I've go to really take the advice here seriously and get active. Spent the whole day today doom scrolling not good.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
