Everytime I encounter the 'everything built for men' argument, I remember that I literally needed to build an extension out of an old shelving unit for my single bed. Every night, that DIY extension is the only reason my feet arnt hanging off the end (even if I sleep diagonally). I'm only 6'2 btw. Turns out society is more 'one size fits all' than built for men. And men are victims of ill- accomodating furniture, clothes and architecture just as much as women are.

This is just more fearmongering. 'Keeping women safe' has long been the pretext by which violence and over-policing against men, especially minority men, has been justified. As long as women continue to be the statistically safest gender, it's not worth paying this disingenuous argument any mind.

If feminism was the gender equality movement they advertised themselves to be, this sub likely wouldn't exist. We are left wing progressives, egalitarians, of course we want everyone to be free from restrictive, toxic, traditional gender norms. The problem is, at least here in the west, feminism has effectively been co-opted by capitalism. Instead of liberation, it now largely promotes bigotry and division while being a key player in reinforcing those harmful gender norms on men.

That's not a clever rebuttal, misandrists who takes that line are literally outing themselves as racist to the audience/onlookers. By validating the stigma that black men are violent and predatory, they are explicitly perpetuating racism in the process of doubling down on their essentialist bigotry. It always upsets me that whenever someone presents a solution to 'toxic masculinity' (the consequences of traditional gender roles for men), their solution almost always turns out to be repackaged traditional gender roles for men. Liberation of men is still an inconceivable thought for so many.

Just having a look at their front page, I'd say it looks decent. They acknowledged discrimination against men in the justice system, the lack of shelters and resources for male victims and the social stigma against them too. Along with mentioning how men are more prevalent victims of violence and suicide. I watched it, the video basically points out the lefts ceeding of mens dating discussion to the right and tries to provide a counter narrative/material. Its okay, its still a bit ''men must do better" but less so than you usually expect from such left wing content. The way I see it, the more the broader left actually try to engage with men and not just dismiss them, such as videos like this, the more likely it is that left wing misandry will be recognised and, good god please, be addressed.

This is what gets me about the "now you know how women felt x years ago" line. How women were treated back then was wrong, so is it not also wrong to treat men like that now? And they come off as nothing short of gleeful to see a man get that same bad treatment, based purely on his gender. They have become the exact kind of sexist bigots they claim to oppose.

Men didn't create gender norms, the rich and wealthy did to make the working class more exploitable and compliant. Any other take I've heard usually tries to erase how much men have historically suffered and died under traditional gender norms. That's my view of it anyway.

I sorta agree. Using sexism instead implies that misandry and misogyny are equal, which subtly undermines the 'misandry is harmless' narrative some push. At the same time though, with how much feminism and gynocentrism has come to dominate gender discourse, when you say 'sexism' people will just assume you mean misogyny. Other mens advocacy subs are usually a circle jerk of cherry picked news stories and articles, with maybe the occasional study, with various right wing hoaxes thrown in. This sub focuses far more on data, statistics and studies, with some actual intersectional/class analysis too. Far more focused on the evidence and bigger picture, and calling out the rhetorical hypocrisy and bigotry against men in other left leaning spaces. You really can't tell the difference? Of the 15 top causes of death in the US, men are leading in 13 of them. Men face 1.5x more violence than women, over 70% of murder victims are men, 95% of workplace deaths are men. 4x higher suicide rate, 3x higher mortality rate under 50. All that and there is no major public outcry or investigation into all that death and suffering. I think it's obvious that misandry does indeed kill.

I've heard the idea of a paper abortion get floated before. The idea being that during pregnancy, the man can file to abandon the child, forsaking all his legal responsibilities and rights regarding the kid including custody and child support.
