They absolutely did. Even one of my relatives was practically forced to abort her child as the family did not approve it. Wasn't that uncommon in old times.

They are still living beings so not just anyone could have them. Just like today it is in fact community, experts etc who decides who can adopt, and politics decide if lgbt people can adopt and so on.

Only a minority of women care about that control and more so in societies with few safety nets or opportunity to make their own money. In rich European welfare states far less women want to be gold diggers. It isn't that pleasant "career" at all no matter how much "control" you think a woman has that way.

Mere consent of woman isn't even enough in most societies. The community also has a say. Children are taken away from abusive women too.

There would still be regulation of course and in a democratic society children would not be handed out to just anybody but the community would have their say in certain standards. Just like not just anyone can adopt.

Women would still take care of those babies and be mothers lol, I doubt most men would be as interested. And even in medieval times there were nuns, women were not sent to chattel slavery even if they did not have children. Besides this is only an artificial womb (and of course would have regulation just like adoption) not an artificial sex slave or something like that.
