HVM have lots of similarities to women in their dating behaviours and strategies. They have lots of options and don't want to waste their time on women who aren't interested in them. They vet. Do you wonder if 1+2 run the risk of adverse selection: if you express subtle interest or pull back too hard, the HVM might figure you're not that into them and direct their attention to women who express more overt interest. It's Canada. There's a very strong presumption of bail and the number of charges doesn't really matter because there's another strong presumption of concurrent, rather than consecutive, sentencing. Jian Ghomeshi got the same treatment - $100,000 bail, released into mother's custody

That was her story, doesn't mean the jury bought it. Juries don't need to believe one iota of the defendant's position in order to acquit, they just need to be sufficiently skeptical of the prosecution's case. That said, I don't know why they acquitted. Maybe they didn't get to see all the evidence presented in the article, or that evidence was somehow tainted.

I like them. They're not usually the best (Jupitus, Carr, and O'Brian for example are way wittier and generally more knowledgeable, for example), more of a "4th person on the panel" quality, but it's not like they're clearly out of their league. They're usually worth it for their interactions with Stephen alone. Toskvig is also really good, I hope she's not the one that Stephen said always demands to see the questions beforehand.

Provinces are different with their alcohol limits for driving at different ages/ license classes. In Ontario the legal drinking age is 19, but no driver under 22 is allowed any alcohol. No driver with learner's licenses can have any alcohol either, at any age.

In Canada it's not even "Stand your Ground". It's literally legal to murder your husband while he's sleeping if you suffer from "Battered Woman's Syndrome " R v Lavallee [1990] 1 SCR 852 *Edit: I got the facts wrong. She shot him in the back of the head as he left the room, not as he slept. The principle remains though. Being a battered woman is still sufficient to establish self-defence and gives carte blanche to murder husbands.
