Honestly, this is a very interesting perspective that I haven’t considered before. I can definitely see how arrogance plays into it! Thanks for this - gave me something to think about.

Thank you. It’s refreshing to have a polite discussion on reddit as well. However, I would say it’s not a contrast between the West/East mentality per se but a difference in education and manners - and those are most definitely not exclusive to the East.

I totally agree with your point on PC culture and language. I think this was missing from my points so thank you for pointing it out! It rings true

I have noticed this too! Thank you for the added insight, I agree with your points and have observed a lot of that as well. I have a friend who says she isn’t a feminist either but at the same time is very much “I don’t need no men” mentality.

You’re welcome! And it’s so funny you think that way about Putin - idk who told you that women think he’s attractive (maybe because power is attractive?) but he’s not considered that way. He’s a divisive figure and we actually tend to not talk about him/about politics too much as a whole.

Hey! Thanks for such an interesting and different question! It gave me a lot to think about. We have a lot of Western media here and so much exposure to things like YouTube, Instagram. Teenagers aren’t in an isolated bubble and engage with the world: we follow fashion trends, use the same slang (ex. ‘mood’ > муд), etc. However, I think it’s kind of a transition stage. While we are very much exposed to western culture we also criticize and don’t adhere to a lot of it. Instagrams may be similar, e…

Yes. Sure, good looking guys will have an easier time taking girls back home for hookups, but money is the priority and women will prefer to date/marry someone who can provide. We don’t view it as a bad thing per se, though there are a lot of poorer men who are extremely bitter because of this. However, I don’t think Russian ‘gold diggers’ adhere to the stereotype in the west. Most are very hardworking, and put themselves through school, and work. The marrying part is an easy way to just have se…

Yes in a way that’s true. People are just more blatantly honest with one another here. We know whether a relationship is transactional or genuine. Especially between women, they’re very open to admit what they want from a guy to their friends. The whole “eastern women are pure virgins who will fall for any western guy” is absolutely untrue, unless maybe you go into very rural Bulgaria or something. The educated, and “attractive women” who have high ‘SMV’ use it.

You’re right! I’m not - my perspective is very limited still. But I do think that even a little bit of insight is more helpful than none at all. In addition, seeing how Eastern European women my age (18-25) are usually the “target demographic” that men talk about, I believe that my viewpoint can also be useful.

( Sorry for the formatting in advance) Actually overweight women are quite common here, however this is more prevalent in poorer areas from my observation. Overall, I think there are a lot of factors. Women here have a lot of pressure to stay a certain weight and have a certain appearance. Unlike say in USA, where a lot of body types are considered attractive (petite, skinny, curvy, tall, big boobs, small boobs, big butt, etc.), in Russia and East Europe there is only one prevalent example of be…

I dislike this stereotype of Eastern Europe where “every average 4/10 bumf*ck guy has a good chance with a slim decent-looking 5/10 female”. That’s not true. Women in Eastern Europe have an entirely different mentality and set of standards so while they may not expect the man to be the more attractive one in the relationship, their expectations are complete tell different in terms of what the man can provide, and bring to the table. I think It’s really pointless to compare West vs. East because …

Same. I used to be a pretty kid, was very chubby and ugly during puberty, and then got decent looking before uni. The treatment from everyone is night and day.

I think it’s a mix of both. I’ve known really beautiful people (both men and women) who were blissfully naive and those that were clearly aware. Most people who are aware of just how their looks affect their lives, use said looks to their advantage, and that’s okay. It certainly makes life so much easier.

Same! I actually did enjoy the dates that I got out of Tinder though, but it got emotionally draining fast, so had to quit.
