On their side, they get being cat-called walking down the street minding their own business, casual misogyny, and lots of rape and murder at the hands of men. Tell me again about how it bothers you when a woman won't give you enough affection or says something mean about men based on her life's experience of dealing with creeps and assholes.

"all women do this" is far easier than doing some self-examination and realizing "I'm a misogynistic asshole and that's why I tend to get treated like shit by the women who be the misfortune to be stuck in my general vicinity."

I think my phrasing came off as overly sarcastic when I really didn't mean it that way. We're just a bit out in the weeds as far as the original topic of post has been concerned, but I won't hesitate to agree with you that or society is rife with injustices and double standards, and they impact different segments of the population differently. It just becomes really difficult sometimes to do an apples to apples comparison of different issues face by a given group. Take for instance the statistic…

The more absolutes you use in your arguments, the less valid it becomes. Nobody, everybody, always, and never are almost always (see what I did there) easily disproven. Fuck, we just removed the right for a woman to have control over her own reproductive processes so that christo-fascist state legislatures can turn them into forced incubators, which is something we do in no other area of medicine (force someone to donate blood or a kidney because someone else will die without it). So yeah! It's …

... while society bends over backwards to accomodate women for even the slightest of their issues. I know plenty of women who would categorically disagree that society does any such thing.

A given man generally dressing how they please and not giving a crap about fashion or anything is not generally seen as a failure unless they are an absolute slob about it. Instead, it's the baseline default for guys, but those who do take the time and effort may find themselves experiencing more positive reactions from women than those who do not. But in matters of one's own individual relationship goals (i.e. being in one), it is counterproductive to spend too much mental energy bemoaning broa…

To be purely transactional about it, everyone is trying to sell their own brand, so to speak. You can only do so much with what you're born with other than to get in shape and eat right and all that. So why would anyone interested in finding a romantic partner *not* want to expend a bit of effort towards the "marketing message" that their style and manner of dress sends? Heck, they should do it for themselves, if nobody else. Dressing well (appropriate to the given situation) inspires self-confi…

Do you know how many "homely" girls out there would absolutely love to be in a relationship with a guy and absolutely do not care if the guy's physical appearance is also below average? Some guys spend all their time looking out of their own league/trying to punch above their own weight while looking with disdain upon those women who are more average or plain. Women may act on initial attraction in pickup culture/casual sex, but what counts as attractive for a potential long-term romantic intere…

Why do so many men spend who so much of their time "observing women" not actually pay attention to what they are seeing when they do? (Disclosure: am man) This will contain a fair bit of generalization. I am perfectly aware #NotAllMen and #NotAllWomen will fit those generalizations. Beyond any level of raw physical beauty granted to (or withheld from) any woman based on her genetics, men should note the time and attention many women devote to their appearance. And I don't mean that in a vanity s…

Goes both ways. There probably would be far fewer incels if they didn't filter all out everyone except those they find the most physically beautiful and bemoan the fact that their lumpy, smelly asses never seem to get any.

Sure, I get that if someone you knew in your 20's who you had professed your undying love for wouldn't give you the time of day then, but now seems to think you are the shit might might make you a bit wary that they are more interested in your bank account than you, yourself. But, both men and women really can change dramatically over time, especially going from one's early 20's to early 30's. Beyond that, that wasn't the exact nature of OP's scenario. Yours makes it directly more personal betwe…

Perhaps she has come to realize that going out with men who expect that sort of immediate, no-holds-barred sex has not been conducive to establishing an enduring, mature, and rewarding relationship. So now, one of the first things she does to weed out the riff-raff is make sure that sex alone is not the sine qua non for any new potential partner before crossing certain lines of physical intimacy. And people are allowed to change their feelings about activities they enthusiastically participated …

I doubt many women are going into relationships with the thought that the men they are doing so with are their "savior", but rather because they find the man in question to be an attractive potential partner, be that due aspects of the man in question's personality, emotional maturity and availability, and/or physical appearance; or most likely, some combination of all three. Are there gold-diggers out there? Of course there are. But it is unfair to most to presume this is the default case inste…

Do you not think she is capable of growing herself and now finding other positive non-physical qualities in a prospective mate to be far more attractive than mere looks? Do you feel people in general are incapable of meaningful change?

You are assuming motivations that aren't reflective of most normal people, men and women alike. Sure, there are those who get into a relationship with someone else intending to screw them over, but that is far from the default. Most women who would express interest in you now, at this point in your life, are very likely doing so because they are interested in you, not because they're wanting to perpetrate a fraud upon you.

It is for quite a lot of people. Admittedly, other people care more about other things (money, looks, fame, etc.). But hopefully you will notice that I mentioned having a shitty personality as a possibility only after suggesting that one might explore some romantic options with others "in their own league" and they still remain completely unsuccessful in their relationship endeavors. So I agree that it while it may not be the primary factor, when you have eliminated all of the other possibilitie…

Dude, there's a universe of girls/women out there that in one or more ways are generally less desirable, just like men. It can be due to their weight, height, or any number of other factors. They aren't getting any either, and most guys won't give them the time of day. Stay in your league like the rest of us and you'll easily find someone happy for your love and attention, unless your personality is the equivalent of a bag of dicks. If that's the case, it's definitely a "you" problem. Edit: OP d…

Woman have the choice whether to go through it or not. Your advice about protection/surgical intervention as a hedge against unwanted children applies equally to men and women. The argument only suggests that men should still be afforded the same choice women get to make about how having a child will affect their future (finances, life goals, etc.) independent of whether the woman chooses to continue the pregnancy or not.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/10/22 07:46 PM

The argument is usually couched in terms that recognize the woman's absolute right to choose what happens with her own body. But should the woman choose to continue the pregnancy, those who hold this position argue that the man should have a choice whether or not he wishes to be any part of the child's life, including having the legal obligation to help provide financial support for the cost of caring for/raising the child. In effect, proponents of this idea feel that the choice available to the…

The rule of thumb for appropriate age range differences I've always heard is half the older person's age + 7 years with a bright red line if the younger person isn't 18 years old yet and the older person is 18+... YMMV.

It's a play on words. Let me rephrase it: If I tell you that I think your body is attractive, would you hold it (your body) against me (my body)? Edit: Never mind. It wasn't that funny in the first place.

I have repeatedly stated in each of my comments on this topic that I do not believe men have the right to make a decision about what a woman does with her own body, so I don't understand how you got to your first question. Men do not have the right independently choose to sign away their legal responsibility like women do when a woman chooses to put a child up for adoption. A man is only presented a choice if the woman chooses adoption first. I didn't say you were bitter about men. I only stated…

And as I stated previously, men have no place in a woman's decision to either keep or abort a pregnancy. Her body, her choice. Period. But as I have clearly also stated previously, I am talking about the choice of the post-pregnancy impact of a child, which I feel men and women should both have access to. Not only can a woman choose to have an abortion, she can also carry the pregnancy to term and then choose to give the child up for adoption if she doesn't want the long term responsibility; a m…

I agree. Individually, this is quite demonstrably true. I think most of us live where the prevailing political outcomes are heavily weighted to one side or another (especially at the state and federal level), and the opinions held and ballots cast by a single person are about as significant as a fart in a hurricane.

Just as you would not have a single woman facing the reality of an unwanted pregnancy to have to bear the burden of the behavior of all women, it is unfair to make a single man facing the same circumstance to answer for the actions of all men. I absolutely agree with you that pregnancy prevention is the responsibility of both people who choose to engage in sex if they do not desire a that as a potential result. Women have more options of birth control than men because there are more non-surgical…

I hope not, because in practice, the rich will still be able to fly of and get them safely done. The poor will either risk their health/lives seeking out dangerous back-alley abortions, or be driven further into poverty by either having unwanted children or by being unwanted children themselves, raised in an increasingly overburdened foster care system. One thing the pro-life crowd has clearly proven is that they don't give a damn about life once the child is born, especially if that child is on…

Women have options too (such as tubal ligation). I'm all for better methods/options for birth control, and when I was of the age and marital status to be having sex with people I wasn't necessarily ready to have children with, I personally would have loved the option to take some male version of "the pill" as long as it didn't cause extreme side effects for me. Notice I didn't say that it had no side effects at all, even fairly serious ones, but only that I personally could tolerate being on it.…

But the choice as to whether to have the baby or not is made before personhood is a consideration, and if men had rights to the same choice regarding their future as women did, this would further inform the woman's own choice. There are plenty of circumstances where a woman becomes a single parent, sometimes by her explicit choice and other times by exigencies of life (father is unknown, deceased, incarcerated, or otherwise unavailable to provide any material support). In situations such as thes…

With the physical risks associated with pregnancy itself, I'd think Plan A would be more desirable... But that's just me.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/09/21 03:44 AM

But see, that's where it breaks down for me. Both men and women have a choice before the woman gets pregnant, and even when contraceptives (condoms, the pill, IUD's, et al.) are used properly, pregnancies still occur. Women get a mulligan if they become pregnant (and rightfully so, because it's their body) - but also because of the potential impact that having a child will have on their future in other areas. Men don't have access to this second part of the "after she's pregnant" choice, despite…
