Excellent point! If someone asks for nudes, the best response would be to ask for a selfie with their bookshelf and shoe collection first.

To be honest, shoesfromparis135, I’d be more interested in what kind of shoes the guy is wearing out and about. Nice quality polished loafers? I can work with that. Dirt and grass-stained Kmart sneakers? Pass. Let’s see them standing by their shoe tree.

It’s the damn masks! Now that I have to mask up to go out in public, people can’t tell my age as easily and I’m getting weird comments again. Still, there’s nothing like getting catcalled by teenage idiots who just see my yoga pants and long ponytail, then watching them get horrified when I whip off my mask to yell at them and show I’m older than their mother. Faces drop. It’s glorious.

I have to say that I feel like I’m just hitting my prime now in my 50s. I’ve leveled up my job and am making a damn good salary, I have my own house and my own space and the freedom to do whatever I want in my own spare time. In the past few years I took up yoga, ceramics and (‘cause why not) weightlifting and I’m having a ball with them all. I am close to my adult kids and am a blissfully single widow after a long train wreck of a marriage. I love my life and the freedom to be my own person aft…

These men that date a HVW know they’re dating out of their league, get resentful, so cheat to make themselves feel better and also knock their partner down a peg.

They were engaged when Charles was 31 and she was 19. Apparently they met when she was 16? The poor girl had no idea what was coming.

Find a good estate lawyer. Seriously. As soon as you get pregnant be prepared to make a will. If you want your child to inherit everything you own, you will have to make that clear. If you own your home, consider creating a family trust with you and your kid and put the house in the trust so if anything happens to you it can pass directly to your kid without them having to go through probate processes or paying taxes on the value of your home. You can create checking and savings accounts in the …

Widow living the dream right here. 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’ve got my kids, my cats, and a solid career. Plus so much more free time now that I’m not constantly being mommy to a alcoholic LVM who can’t get off the couch.

Stronger by Kelly Clarkson. I’d listen to that on repeat over and over. I love the message that alone doesn’t mean lonely. Edit: holy cow, that song is almost ten years old? It’s kept me going strong for a long time!

People have posted that they messaged the mods about a new alt account and that it hasn’t sped up the approval process

It would be nice if there was a way to fast track a new FDS-only alt account so you could continue to post, instead of waiting for your alt account to level up to newbie status. Also, it’s strange that we are told to create alt accounts, but blatantly alt accounts get this weird flair like I have.

I dunno about that. When grocery shopping in an unfamiliar store, I’ll always ask the woman with the full cart if she knows where the slice-and -bake cookies or the garlic is, and I always get a helpful response. Of course I’m an older lady and completely non threatening, and I never ask a woman that has kids with her because she’s got enough going on.

I’m a little late to this conversation, but the only men I want in my life (besides my son) are my personal trainer and my financial advisor. One helps me take care of my health and one helps me take care of my wealth. I can take care of everything else my own damn self.

In many states, if you have kids you can file as “head of household” and get decent tax breaks over filing as a single person. You can even be the head of household for older kids as long as they are in college.

My ex husband went to a few individual therapists, but quit after a few sessions each time because he said he was “so much smarter than they were, they couldn’t teach him anything.” Then when I filed divorce papers without agreeing to his demands for couples therapy, he was all shockedpikachu.jpg.

There were a bunch of “they” pronouns and no “he” pronouns so maybe this was a LVW that dumped her partner? The lack of gendered pronouns makes it a little ambiguous.

I was married to someone for 20+ years that kept insisting what I wanted was wrong because some 20-year old he dated for three months back in the early 80s told him what all women wanted in bed. This took precedence over anything I could tell him ever, because “No, Susie said...”. Gah!!

This here is exactly where the “not all men” argument breaks down. Where’s the outrage, guys? Oh that’s right, they just don’t care.

Don’t forget, an upset woman isn’t likely to do more than yell, which the idiot male doesn’t mind at all. A pissed-off boyfriend is likely to get violent and punch the other guy in the nose. There’s much more of a threat of violence when they offend a man than when they offend a woman, and they know that.

Wow, my abuser was low-effort and unmotivated. He wasn’t openly malicious, he just didn’t give a damn about anybody but himself. Yours was high-effort and highly motivated, but for evil. I think I’d keep mine over yours, motivation behind damned. Edit; I’m glad we both kicked ours to the curb, regardless!

For me, the mask fell away after after the birth of kid #2. My ex passed away recently, and I was surprised to find myself really devastated; apparently some deeply hidden part of me always hoped that he’s return to that happy “normal” of our early marriage.

“She’s got her guard waaaay down! Her entire self-worth is wrapped up in being lovable! I can do anything to her and she won’t say no!” -the next guy she dates, probably.

When my daughter hid a bottle of wine from my alcoholic ex, he told her that he hadn’t even bought it himself, it was only half full, and he didn’t like that brand anyway because it was too sweet, etc. etc. He then told her that he’d never speak to her again if she didn’t give back that half bottle of crappy wine. She didn’t, and they didn’t speak ever again (he’s dead now). So yeah, a half bottle of wine was more important to my ex than his daughter of 23 years. No unconditional love there.

I totally did this with my alcoholic ex. He would have just blown my annual bonuses on booze and selfish crap, so I totally lied about having any bonus and explained the money by saying my parents gifted my kids a pile of cash for their college fund each year. I filed all the taxes and paid all the bills so he never knew. My parents were in on the scam, as was my sister, so she wouldn’t hear through the family grapevine that my parents had gifted my kids five figures and wonder why her kids didn…

Hey we all have that sweet, sweet newbie flair now! I am guessing that Vice article drove a lot of traffic to the site and kept the mods working overtime. Edit: I guess my flair changed from newbie to throwaway? Fair enough, as long as I can still comment.

I’m still trying to get a newbie flair on my new alt account. I can’t imagine someone with so little in his life that he has to make random posts in FDS just trying to get a flair so he can cause some real damage. I guess the mods too need to vet, vet, vet.

Any man who just wants to learn and understand is welcome to read what we write. That’s not what they want though; they desperately want to disrupt and interject their unwanted opinions. The idea what we don’t value what they have to say drives them crazy.

I read a quote years ago saying that a proper women should be publicly acknowledged just three days in her life, when she is born, married, and when she dies. It makes sense that a desire for a wedding is still just a desire for public acknowledgment. I wish I knew the author of the quote, but since I don’t have FDS newbie status yet, I’m guessing nobody will see this post who might know.

Oddly enough, I became invisible once I hit 50. It’s glorious, let me tell you. I can walk in the park or have a coffee in a cafe and nobody follows me around or tries to sit at my table and engage in creepy conversation. Such a difference from my 20s! Of course, if anyone did try, I would waste no time in telling that person to piss off, while 20-something me would have been afraid of seeming rude. Maybe it’s not just my age but also the attitude I’m projecting.
