Watched a YouTube video involving a practical experiment around dressing for the male gaze and saw this comment: "My boyfriend wishes I'd wear a sundress once in a while. Never gonna happen! Don't care about the male gaze, not even his!" Got curious and ran a gender-swapped version through ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini in fresh/incognito chats. Same basic prompt, only changed the gender and clothing item (female/sundress, male/button-up). All three models seemed to frame the woman's refusal primar…

No, I saw that part. I just don’t think the surrounding context makes it sound equivalent in intensity or desirability. According to her, the toxic partners inspired a more “fired up,” “amazing,” and “frenetic” kind of attraction, while the healthier relationship requires her body to “catch up” to her brain through therapy and learning to appreciate a different kind of experience. That may not technically mean “worse” overall, but it absolutely suggests that toxic dynamics can produce a stronger…
/r/PurplePillDebate12/05/26 06:04 AM

You’re arguing against a position I never took. I never said “being nice = sex,” and I never said women consciously want abusive relationships. My point is much narrower: people constantly describe niceness/kindness as the baseline or bare minimum for attraction and relationships, yet obviously non-nice people repeatedly succeed in both. That directly contradicts the claim. And I’m not “cherry-picking.” I’m responding to examples women themselves shared about their attraction patterns and relati…
/r/PurplePillDebate12/05/26 06:04 AM

The point is that the commonly repeated idea that "nice guys" fail because they think being nice is anything more than table stakes is not supported by the situations people actually report. The first men in these stories were clearly not nice, so niceness obviously was not table stakes here. Their words also don't need to be "gospel" to be worth incorporating into a broader understanding of attraction dynamics. You seem to think people like this and the attraction levers involved are some rare …
/r/PurplePillDebate12/05/26 06:03 AM

Someone posted the original thread yesterday, but these specific comments need to be highlighted: <image> Crazy how the toxic guys who, as far as I can tell, were not "nice" as a baseline, inspired "amazing" and "frenetic" attraction and sexual chemistry, while the smart healthy relationship guys have sex that is "different" and "not as fired up" with the women still unpacking the effects of those past toxic relationships in therapy even a decade later. But remember, "being nice is literally the…

Many women prefer men who show certain “protective” or chivalrous behaviors, even while recognizing the downsides. A 2018 study in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin (Gul & Kupfer) found that women consistently rated men with benevolently sexist attitudes or behaviors as more attractive romantic partners. They were aware these attitudes could be patronizing, but they still preferred those men because the behavior signaled a willingness to protect, provide, and commit, which are traits as…

Go on a shopping date with her and pick up a few nicer pieces you can reliably use for dates. Otherwise, a simple formula works for most situations: straight or relaxed fit dark denim, chinos, or dress pants. Pair them with cotton polos, sweater polos, or button down shirts in solid colors or simple patterns. Avoid novelty prints. Fit matters more than anything. Slim or relaxed is fine, just avoid skin-tight or overly baggy. Finish with clean leather sneakers, boots, or dress shoes like loafers,…

So I don't disagree with that connotation existing, but that's kind of the point of the comment, that same association doesn't exist the other way round. She flew him to Korea, and I'm not entirely sure how you reach the conclusion that it isn't taking them out of their comfort zones. It's a bit of a reach to assume that changing everything at once, or even changing things in large waves wouldn't be a little bit of an uncomfortable process for the man to undertake, even if they are ultimately ok…

IG Reel: Giving my Husband a Korean Makeover I know the reel is probably a bit of a glorified ad, and no hate to anyone in the reel, but it and the wholly supportive comments got me thinking. The video discusses the psychological effects of testosterone and how it influences male behavior and well-being. It highlights that testosterone significantly impacts motivation, anxiety, risk-taking, pain tolerance, and social interactions. Key points include: Psychological Impact (0:56): Testosterone makes effort feel good, increases motivation for social status and attracting mates, reduces social anxiety, encourages risk-taking, and even lowers pain sensitivity. That comes from a bit of a misunderstanding of how the legal system handles these cases. Everyone starts with the presumption of innocence, that’s a cornerstone of criminal law. The issue with SA accusations (outside of how tricky situations can be to assess) is how “sticky” they are socially, even after a not-guilty verdict. But for someone to actually be convicted of lying about it, a court would have to be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt (which is like 95+ percent) that they intentionally…

Theoretically, self-esteem can be independent from external factors, but humans aren’t really built like that. We’re social beings and a lot of our self-image comes from how we think we’ll be perceived by others. Even at home, when you look more put-together, you’re still applying standards shaped by the culture you live in. If someone grew up completely isolated from other people, they wouldn’t care about jeans vs. sweatpants since they’d have no reference point for what “looking good” even mea…

Yes if I wear a nice outfit I feel more confident. I don't know what you mean by whether it should or shouldn't be that way, it's a studied phenomenon (enclothed cognition), that's just how humans work. It makes sense, the clothes you wear are a contextual social signal, if you dress in a way you anticipate being positively perceived you'll reflect that anticipated response internally.

My point stands on its own. If I wanted to, I could find examples of women who look attractive with little to no makeup, and I’ve seen women themselves say they get approached more when they’re not heavily made up or that their partners are more attracted to them before the daily routine. But how does me showing pictures of women I think are attractive sans makeup add to the original conversation? That risks turning it from a logical assertion into a critique of random internet women.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/10/25 05:28 PM

I never claimed that I, or men in general, are only attracted to women with zero makeup, so I don’t feel a need to defend that. Personally, I don’t like the caked-on/heavy makeup looks and usually prefer lighter or more natural styles. That doesn’t mean I can't find someone with heavy makeup attractive, but it’s not my preference. Besides, some of the most popular styles right now are literally “clean girl” and “no makeup makeup.” Meanwhile, more outlandish looks are straight up called “man repe…
/r/PurplePillDebate02/10/25 03:59 PM

Grooming is reductive: shaving or cutting your hair just sharpens what’s already there. Makeup is additive, it creates the illusion of features that don’t exist. Not saying makeup is evil, but they’re not the same thing. Cologne/perfume? Both sexes use it, but women also buy more. Putting your best experiences on a resume isn’t the same as inventing jobs you never had. That’s the difference.

Because they failed to overcome it and are showing the deficiencies associated with growing up without a father as a woman. The failed father's insult is in being a "deadbeat". Why is a man who's too emotionally bonded to his mother insulted as a "Momma's boy" when the mother is the one that instigated that dynamic? Same principle

If it was, men wouldn’t also be the majority of the population experiencing adverse outcomes in a large variety of circumstances (Apex Fallacy essentially) (Source 1). So it sounds like you're saying weaponized incompetence is fine, as long as it's used to avoid being taken advantage of. Is that your position?
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/25 05:16 AM

I checked, and I’d say your definition is a bit narrow. “Weaponized incompetence, also called strategic incompetence, is when someone knowingly or unknowingly demonstrates an inability to perform or master certain tasks, thereby leading others to take on more work.” - Psychology Today Fits the video to me. She faked not being able to do something she could do, which shifted the task to her partner. Personally, if I plan on doing a task later, especially with that same person around, I wouldn’t p…

/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/25 05:00 AM

Okay, a lot of the responses here seem to defend this as “helping the fragile male ego,” like it’s some noble act of emotional caretaking. For clarity, my issue isn’t that the wife asked for help, or that she should have done it herself just because she’s capable. It’s that she pretended she couldn’t, when she clearly could. If a man pretended he couldn’t pack his own lunch or do laundry just to get his girlfriend to do it for him, most people wouldn’t hesitate to call that weaponized incompeten…
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/25 04:50 AM

I disagree. I think a lot of men just want to feel appreciated for their contributions, whether or not their partner could’ve done the task themselves. From the responses here, it seems like appreciation only counts if the man does something the woman couldn't have done. If she could’ve done it, then it gets turned into a joke or made to feel like a performance, like a 5-year-old with dinosaurs. "I could’ve done it fine, but I’ll *allow* you to feel like your help meant something." Feels pretty …
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/25 04:40 AM

I meant "you" in the general sense, not towards you specifically. So pretending you can't take the doors off, when you actually can, in order to get your spouse to do it for you, doesn't qualify as weaponized incompetence because...?
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/25 04:12 AM

So preemptive weaponized incompetence is a thing now? You can be capable of a thing and still not need to be the person doing it 100% of the time. You also don't need to pretend you can't do that thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/08/25 04:02 AM

On a larger scale, it delegitimizes women's arguments about weaponized incompetence because it shows they engage in the same behavior and don’t see an issue when the roles are reversed. On a smaller scale, it creates a relationship dynamic where one partner intentionally makes themselves look helpless to manipulate the other. If you want him to feel needed, just tell him you’d really appreciate his help, no need to pretend you’re incapable.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/08/25 11:06 PM

Yeah but there's a difference between asking them to do something for you as an expression of love vs pretending you can't do it to force them to instead. And I'd say they can perform helpfulness in whatever area they are better in or enjoy more, not because the other person has to pretend they can't do it, but because it's good for the relationship to do things for each other
/r/PurplePillDebate05/08/25 10:56 PM

It's better to exercise for the long-term though, cuz then you won't lose muscle along with fat, and your body will naturally burn more calories in the long-term
/r/PurplePillDebate05/08/25 10:29 PM

Q4A: Is this short video an example of weaponized incompetence or is it a woman "being in her feminine"? Tldw: A wife tells her husband she can’t remove the Jeep’s detachable doors and asks him to do it. Security camera footage shows she is entirely capable of removing them on her own. Women in the comments say this is to “let the man feel needed,” or blame hormones.

I definitely notice this when it comes to the idea of men paying for the first date. Lots of women will say it shows "generosity" or the capability to take care of a family, despite the fact that it's a weak proxy that anyone can display once or twice without any deeper relevance, compared to consistently showing kindness or thoughtfulness, things that are harder to falsify over time. If you want the man to pay it doesn't need to be backed by some great moral insight, you can just like that it m…

Relevant reel: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DILpWLsxUC2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Personality seems to play a role only after you reach the threshold for attraction. I'd argue this is more of a short-term thing though, in long-term contexts having a desirable personality probably has more of an effect, especially for women's attraction to men.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/04/25 09:47 PM

Yeah like I said it does looks like the interviewer was being a bit bad faith, but honestly that just adds to my point. Despite being the victim, the woman's actions contributed to what happened to her, and many people not only point that out, but uses it to absolve the aggressor of their personal responsibility, while in other contexts that line of thinking suddenly becomes unconscionable. I find it funny that she sounds so in line with red pill ideas/hypergamy even though her content seemingly has no overlap with dating content, so this is legit just how she feels : https://www.instagram.com/reel/C-TMx0UO1rD/?igsh=MWhjZm93ZHlpc3FxZg==

The rest of what point? Your entire argument is predicated on the Tiktok being representative of the "low-quality" options available to women. And like I said, if a man is low quality for not spending $3 on cheese for his burger, you are not being serious about dating.

Yeah this didn't happen and the woman in this video has issues. So first she claims she got up and paid for the entire bill after eating and then blocked him. (And why is paying for the both of them some sort of big deal when she apparently decided to do so of her own volition because she was so disgusted by financial responsibility?) Additionally, the video says nothing about him being "cheap" with the waitress, they had a normal restaurant interaction. Then after she gets hate for it she (defe…

I wasn’t talking about kids Well I don't think many people contest that older women can still have relationships, just that they aren't in position to demand as much from them. I don’t know why redpill men think women don’t know their biological clock, but if a woman isn’t a mother by 40 it’s probably because of something unfortunate that happened to her or it isn’t very important to her. Because women talk about it or show it through their actions. Cases in point: Example 1 - 38 yr old single d…

Yes I agree, but telling men all women prefer to date over 6 ft is not productive. Most men >are under 6 ft and their wives didn’t settle for them and most likely finds them attractive. Sure, but telling the 5'5 guy whose struggled with dating and doesn't understand why, since he has everything he thinks he needs (a decent job, kindness, thoughtfulness, being a gentlemen) that women like taller men does help him understand what his problem is. Maybe he starts wearing boots at add a little height…

It's not really about that, it's more about the assumption that everyone is conspiring together with >their gender to create an outcome. If lots of women like flowers on dates, it's not a conspiracy that they all got together and decided >that men should bring flowers. That's where the thinking of most people on this sub collapses. Maybe I haven't paid attention but I haven't particularly noticed people saying that men or women consciously decided as a group to do something, just that that's wha…

But do you disagree that women typically do care about income and height? You should treat people as individuals, but you can also acknowledge ways in which masses of individuals tend to act the same. No, it shouldn't cause you to treat them differently, but it lets you know that there seems to be some sort of gender divide, or at least a perceived gender divide. Everyone is against the grain on something, but most people are with the grain on most things or else that wouldn't be the grain.

Personally, I find this kind of thinking a bit reductive. Yes, I agree, not every man or every woman falls under the umbrella of "men do x" or "women do y". And I agree that people aren't necessarily going about life hyper analyzing every choice they make to specifically hurt others, gender based or otherwise. But noticing and studying trends in people's decisions, and seeing how and why they may differ isn't a stupid thing to do, especially when you can notice substantial differences and perhap…

If I'm reading what you're saying correctly, I'd have to somewhat disagree. In my head (and probably most men's) the defining feature of a hookup person is sexual attractiveness, and there may be things that prevent them from being LTR material, but the fact is, they're hot. Whereas being LTR material decreases the need for sexual attractiveness with greater value being placed on other aspects of the relationship. Which is why you can be marriage material without being hookup material (good but …

The original post off of which this is based, as well as OP's rendition of it both fail to use the word "just", because being told "you're not just hookup material" is a completely different statement in meaning than "you're not hookup material". The fact that almost everyone I've seen defend this statement inserts a "just" into it shows that you recognize the difference between the two but won't openly acknowledge it.

I'm not even joking but you might need to go to therapy for this. If you intellectually understand that she's a great gf but don't emotionally respond to it, you should probably figure out why so you can fix it now instead of regretting it later.

Okay, been a lurker for a while and this post finally prompted me to make an account, so I'll try throwing my two cents in. What you have to understand is that generally, as a woman, receiving sexual attention from men doesn't seem inherently special because "men only want one thing". A man being sexually attracted to you isn't a big deal/doesn't say anything in particular about his overall feelings for you. What is a big deal is a man being emotionally and relationally invested in you (using yo…

Well in this case, it's because at least sexually, both guys get the same thing - sex, but one guy got it by existing and the other guy got it as a reward for extensive investment. I think you're conflating everything else that comes with marriage with the sexual aspect here. On the surface of it, the married guy isn't getting anything sexually Mr. Casual sex didn't, it just cost him a lot more to get.
