On the female side, there is a social stigma towards female coders (except from feminists). Within their social games, the female coder is probably just 1 level higher than the female mathematician, this will lead to isolation from the "cooler" clinches. Also, the media's always going on about male software geeks, and very very little good stuff is on the female geek (Big Bang Theory, anyone?).
