I think the 2nd rule is important. I do monthly shopping and takes about 3hrs to drive so I make a weekend / overnight of it. I always end up going to the same place regardless and end up inviting random tinder chicks out. None show up no big deal I was there already. I then head to the local nightcluband go from there. Next day hangover and a free bed for the night I go shopping and drive back home far far away.

I keep 10L of drinking water in my car, I keep an ammo can of basic rations w/hexamine stove. Punctures I have a tyre repair kit and a spare tyre so it punctures are manageable. In the event of worst case scenario where I break down completely I just sit and wait I guess. Someone commented that I should invest in a satelite phone which would be a smart idea.

Hey mate I'm in Australia and would recommend not driving at night since Kangaroos are rampant during that time and seem to have a suicide pact going. You'll be doubling your time to get to the destination because you'd be dodging roos. It gets up to 50 degrees here in summer and I haven't experienced any issues but i do keep movements minimal during the hottest days. That being said if your vehicle is older and ill maintained you may have troubles.

Hey mate I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to apply for a position in the outback. I've been setup in my own place out here and this is basically what I'm surrounded by in every direction. Closest townships are on average 200kms away. I have slept in the back of cruiser by removing the back seats and putting a single bed foam mattress down with my swag bag. I am quite tall at 6'5 so I can get a decent sleep and depending on the weather I leave the tail gate open to gain extra room.
