He sounds like he’s burnt out. Is there anyway you can convince him to go do something for himself? Go out with just his friends, or camp/hunt/kayak, or whatever he has enjoyed doing in the past? Is the business in a spot where he could hire a virtual assistant to handle some of the things he’s doing in the evenings? I know you miss him. This sounds so hard!

He might feel like you are manipulating him by bringing up something if you haven’t been doing the Empowered Wife stuff very long. My husband has been suspicious when we were having rough patches in our marriage. If your man thinks you are trying to trick him (idk how- men have wild imaginations), the things you bring up might feel “tainted”, like when he spoons you, all he’s thinking is why why why did you say you liked it? Focus on self-care and being fun and laughing and smiling for a while. …

When everything is exploding around you, narrow your focus. What is most important? Do that. Some things will always have a priority (for instance a baby’s need will be pretty high no matter what’s happening). Drop some of the plates. Don’t do the dishes and then you won’t have dishes to cook dinner. Your husband will be made aware when dinner isn’t ready. When he asks or tells you to do something, use Laura Doyle’s “I can’t”. Sometimes it’s because you are busy with something else at the moment…

And for perspective, I have three kids (10, 6 and 18mo), WFH full-time, am in charge of cleaning, cooking, etc. My husband is starting a business as a mid-life career change and is bringing in nothing at the moment. Our finances are entirely automatic, as I’ve told my husband the responsibility is too much for me and he does not want to shoulder the burden. I have a lot of the similar problems but from a mama of three, screen-free independent play is GOOD for your littles.

I agree. I’ve really cut back on screen-time this summer and my kids are so much calmer. In fact, my husband allows my son (10) to have 1 hour of videogames and any time it happens (bc it isn’t every day), he is immediately grumpy and whiny about other people. He has to go get some exercise to balance his mood (usually riding his bike)

Toddlers do fine screen free. You can put in a playard or something and set toys down in it, and just leave the toddler in the playard. He may cry for a few minutes, but he will settle down after a few minutes to play (I’m doing this same thing with my 18-mo old right now). If a playard isn’t doable, put him in his bedroom and shut the door. Another help might be an Alexa device (echo dot is like $40-$50?). You can connect your Audible account (or there’s a Chirp skill you can use for cheaper au…

I would say the feminist movement really tanked standing up for women in their traditional roles. The leaders in the 60s were outspoken about wanting women to leave the role of homemaker and have careers. There used to be laws that wives could appeal to if their husbands were not providing for them, but equality demanded those laws be repealed. The result is women who have now been taught “Anything you can do, I can do better” and they try to do EVERYTHING better than men. Men have been taught t…

You say you have anxiety and depression. Has that developed since you have been married? If so, he may not be interested in “bubbly” kind of fun, but just peaceful kind of fun. I know for me, I struggled with the “self-care” skill associated with Laura Doyle’s “goddess of fun and light. I always included things that fed into dopamine addictions (videogames and phone games, candy, stuff like that). Last week I decided to remove all my phone/tablet games in an entirely different experiment (does h…

Something like “You surprised me” or “I wasn’t expecting you here” would express the emotion and open the door for asking questions without sounding like you are telling him what to do

Bc I’m in the RP subreddit. I like the Christian one bc they don’t drop the F-bomb all the time and they tend to connect RP praexology back to Biblical principles (specifically Scripture). I’m not here to argue over theology.

It’s been a long time since I read the book, that’s why I included the review from Tim Challies. I can’t get into the weeds of the finer points of the book. I wouldn’t read it, I wouldn’t give it to women I know to read. It definitely is not RP, and the ideas it espouses are not RP.

That book says women need three things to be happy: 1. Romance. You need a partner for romance 2. To play a part in their adventure. The way it’s worded literally assumes women aren’t controlling “their adventures” 3. To display beauty. A display is external for other people to notice. All the points in the book talking about how women can be happy require another person. If a woman is married, that person is gonna be her husband. It goes directly against the idea that she is in control of her o…

It’s not a useful book for teaching anyway (I wouldn’t recommend it outside of a RP context: https://www.challies.com/book-reviews/book-review-captivating/). It also does nothing to counter the sinister feminist lies that society teaches …well, everyone nowadays, men and women. It gives women more things to think they want and aren’t getting (romance, adventure, beauty). More ways to not truly know what they want. Don’t let your women read it unless you want more fodder for fighting. Bc if all w…

When my kids are throwing a tantrum, I say things like, “This behavior is unacceptable.” Or “That was a disrespectful/unkind thing to say.” Those are great for a hormonal wife too. Follow it up with “You can be better than this. I know/love you.” or something similar bc women love emotional junk. Walk away. You don’t tolerate ppl treating you like that, and in the throes of hormones, women often are irrational. Leave the air open for her to take your correction into consideration. The follow up …

If you have a body count from a past/pre-salvation lifestyle, they probably won’t care. If you are currently claiming Christ as Lord and Savior, and are still racking up body count, this will be a red flag. Women who strive for integrity will avoid you. If your case is the latter, what are you even doing? The Bible is clear about adultery. Ultimately, your frame will determine whether your past body count is a problem or not. If you have little to no frame, body count will be a good excuse to du…

I’m a little confused as to what you are hoping the outcome will be. Are you hoping to salvage your marriage? My main beef with this is that it is an attempt to control his behavior and, as such, is inherently disrespectful. If you want him to agree to change his ways, this is probably not going to do it, as disrespect turns men off and makes them keep us at a distance. If you want him to blow you off and refuse to obey your demands so you can wash your hands of the marriage, then it does not re…

A homemaker doesn’t mean you don’t ever leave the house, doesn’t mean you don’t contribute to the world at large, doesn’t mean you can’t bring in an income. Especially if your SO can make enough money that you don’t NEED to work, you could be as free as you want. But homemakers have skills that are sadly lacking today. I’m 32 and I can’t keep my home clean. I can’t cook in anything like a timely manner. If you develop those skills (which I’ve found are massively satisfying for a woman to have), …

Follow-up: you could button this particular disagreement up by apologizing to him (I know, I know - hear me out): “Honey, I’m sorry for being disrespectful when I asked if you wanted sex and then wasn’t into it when you offered.” No hems, no haws. An admission that you made a mistake, you know what it was, how it affected him. Then just leave it to simmer. He might forgive you there on the spot. If he doesn’t, don’t dwell on it - do something you like to do. Edit: is this not RED PILL Wives? Do …

You might try initiating without initiating. Don’t say “I want to have sex” because what he hears is “I want to experience the physical activity of sex.” Try initiating by admiring something about him. If you want to connect with him intimately, tell him why (for instance, “You are so handsome. I can’t stop looking at you.” I personally like, “I’m the luckiest woman in the world. I get the [compliment goes here, like hard-working, sexy, loving, thoughtful, strong, etc]-est man there is!” It reas…

I don’t usually advertise my cleavage - I make sure to cover that up. My husband is well aware of my mammary volume and enjoys cleavage, and so I will wear a push up bra because he likes it. Don’t buy a bra that’s two cup sizes bigger and then stuff it w tissues. But rearranging what you got and where it sits is nbd.

Well, I’m not gonna get a Brazilian every day, that’s for sure, but it def is part of my self-care Chocolate! I looove to taste chocolate in ma food-hole. Puzzles (whether word, number, crypto, jigsaw, origami, or writing algorithms, solving puzzles is my jam) Playing pretty (visual and auditory) video games (preferably w puzzles in them) Reading books Shopping for dresses (even if I don’t buy anything)

In addition, keep yourself well-hydrated to prevent bad breath as well. Dry mouth is bad news for close talking (or other close-face things)

I find his commentary encouraging - that we can still be feminine without having to submit in cases where our authorities conflict. If we take control of situations, we are usurpers, and I've been finding it's a recipe for misery. If we decline, invite further leadership, and make efforts to show that we long for righteous leadership, we at least are able to maintain integrity with our feminine, Christian identity.

John Piper, from Recovering Biblical Manhood & Womanhood: Masculinity: At the heart of mature masculinity is a sense of benevolent responsibility to lead, provide for and protect women in ways appropriate to a man's differing relationships. Femininity: At the heart of mature femininity is a freeing disposition to affirm, receive and nurture strength and leadership from worthy men in ways appropriate to a woman's differing relationships. Commentary: I do not mean to define femininity merely as a …

I have come to the conclusion that your husband is some kind of master-level RP and you don’t even know. You lucky dog.

My initial thought is why are you here on a RP sub? Almost your entire answer is predicated on the idea that your brain functions completely apart from emotion. If you are a woman, this is not true and if you believe it is true, RP theory won't really help you but will likely just offend you. Possibly your husband is already RP and so successful that you don't even notice when you S**t Test him (if so, good on him), but commenting crap on these forums and trying to convince everyone that you're …

Re: ability to focus on logic I said I CUT testing, not that I’d eliminated it totally. Re: questions If your questions have a wrong answer, it’s a test, and him saying the wrong answer fails the test. If you rationalize, “There is no wrong answer, if he says he can’t handle it, I just won’t do it,” the wrong answer was him admitting he wasn’t strong enough to handle something. RP theory says that makes you respect him less and become less attracted to the man. And do you seriously ask your husb…

I THINK I kind of get what you're asking. There's a LOT you can do before you're married that doesn't have anything to do with an actual sexual experience, but will improve your "sexual fitness" perhaps? My first recommendation is read a book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". Even if you don't plan to use this method for birth control, it is HIGHLY informative about how your reproductive system works and should (IMO) be required reading for all girls around the time they start high schoo…

I'm with RP on this doctrine - all women do this; we can't help it. I have made significant efforts in my life to focus on logic and reason, and so have cut a lot of my testing, because I was able to analyze and say, "This is a stupid thing to say; it is unhelpful", etc. But (as HornsOfApathy called them) ... feeellzzzz. Oh, emotions. Our emotions are so intense for us that they ARE our reality. So last night, after I blew up over something our puppy did unintentionally (my husband's response wa…

I was particularly careful in the way I said it. I have PLENTY of experience trying to force him to be ... something. Even trying to force something he is and wants to be won’t be as helpful or as satisfying as him taking it on his own.

In my n00bular optimism, I attempted to model how i expected my husband to respond to my s**t tests. I knew I wouldn’t stop, and I wanted to at least give him some ammo. The first time, he seemed pleasantly surprised (was I being playful?), and has been giving me a lot more crap than he did two days ago. It’s great.

“I went from being borderline abusive and banging her anyway to incredibly anxious about what she thought of me. I wonder what the female's version of that story is?” So this is almost my story w my husband. We are in the “incredibly anxious” section now, and it makes me anxious what he thinks of me. I’ll probably make a post here or in RPCW soon, bc I’m ruminating in a bunch of things I’ve heard and how it affects me and how it affects him.
