Ok, how about a different comparison. One that generalizes a concept instead of a group. The problem with terrorism is Explosive Islam. I'm not saying that Islam as a whole is a problem, or that there is something wrong with Muslims. When I say Explosive Islam, I'm referring to the parts of Islam that make people want to blow up buildings. Offensive or no?

You're not just talking about one person's personality, you're talking about an important part of the identity of a huge group of people. And I understand that the phrase doesn't mean that masculinity isn't inherently toxic. I just think the phrase does a very poor job of getting its meaning across, since it seems you imply that there is something wrong with every man... or at least every man that doesn't denounce the concept of masculinity.
/r/MensRights19/11/18 10:07 PM

But when you're generalizing masculinity, aren't you also talking about a group of people?

"I'm not saying that all Mexicans are rapists... Some, I assume, are good people. I just use the phrase rapist Mexicans to refer to the part of Mexicans that are rapey." That's what this sounds like, and I assume that you agree that this sentence could (should) be considered very offensive. When you use the phrase 'Toxic Masculinity', it sounds like you're implying that masculinity is inherently toxic. I know that's not what you mean, but that's definitely how this phrase comes across.

I guess you're more pessimistic than I am. I like to believe in the good in people and give them second chances. You might be absolutely right. Which is indeed why OP definitely needs to stand his ground and not let himself be pressured into thinking that he's overreacting. The point of my post was this. Growing up in a culture that routinely ignores and makes light of male sexual assault, this girl might be conditioned to think that what she did was just a funny prank. If there is any good in h…

You don't necessarily have to go to the police, but if you're willing to put in the time, you might consider doing this. Look up the specific laws and statutes in your area. She definitely committed a crime. Find out which one and optionally the punishment usually associated with it. Take a moment to think about what she did to you and how this affected you emotionally. Hell, just look at Zoe Quinn. She cheated on Eron with 5 different guys and arguably emotionally abused and manipulated him. His 'horrible' revenge: he wrote a blog post in which he detailed all the bad stuff she did to him. The media: "Oh, what a terrible guy." "He is a horrific abuser!" "Poor Zoe! Such a strong role model!"

That's your choice then and I fully support that! I think that is a really healthy way of looking at it. However, I wasn't arguing for labels to be attached to a person for the rest of their life; I was saying that if they are going to get a label (and sometimes this can be useful or even necessary, e.g. in a support group), survivor is a more positive one than victim.
/r/MensRights04/02/15 07:44 PM

There has been a deliberate choice to refer to them as survivors instead of victims. Being raped is a horrible ordeal that can really traumatize a person. It is in their best interest to deal with this trauma as soon as possible, instead of it becoming a burden that keeps weighing them down. Referring to them as victims keeps them in a state of perpetual victimhood, like you are saying - even years after the incident - that they are Lee because of what happened. A survivor, on the other hand, co…

I think the current situation, in which women have the final say in deciding wether or not to abort a child, regardless of the father's feelings, is just wrong. However, forcing women to obtain written consent from the father - enabling a man to force a woman to carry a child she doesn't want to term - is much, much worse. So, how do you all feel about this?

I agree with most things she's saying here, but I feel the article misrepresents a lot of the points she makes. Men, I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue, too. I’ve seen my father’s role as a parent being valued less by society. I’ve seen young men suffering from illness, unable to ask for help for fear it will make them less of a man …. I’ve seen men fragile and insecure by what constitutes male success. Men don’t have the benefit…

I have two stories to tell. Last week I was having dinner with a couple of friends (about 50/50 male to female). One of my female friends told us about an event she witnessed in a train earlier that day. A woman in her compartment didn't have a ticket. When the ticket inspector came by, she told some (unconvincing) sob story about how she forgot and how sorry she was. The inspector let her off with a warning. Because 'teaching women not to make false rape accusations' is as ridiculous as 'teaching men not to rape'. These women know full well what they are doing and no poster campaign is going to make them realize "oh, maybe it was wrong of me to falsely accuse someone of rape". These posters mostly show how outrageous the 'don't be that guy'-posters are by turning it around on women/feminists and making an equally offensive point. That's satire.

But I would guess that would mostly go in the Completed Forced Penetration category. I don't think many prison rapes would fall in the Made To Penetrate category, which is the most significant for MRA's.

Apart from the whole rape/made to penetrate business, I also noticed a weird discrepancy in the factor between the lifetime numbers and the 12-months statistics between men and women. The study is being made fun of here No, it's not. Male rape victims are being made fun of here. Plenty of people make general rape jokes Yes, but there is a difference between making a rape joke and telling rape victims to "grow a pair" and that they're "fucking pussies". Yes, I think it's okay to joke about rape, because I don't like the idea of telling people what they can and can't joke about. Yes, I think the number deserves to be made fun of. TL;DR False Positives and civil rights As you probably know, forensic DNA testing isn't infallible. There is always the chance of a false positive. Fortunately, this rate is very small (I couldn't find reliable numbers, though). Therefore, when someone is suspected of a crime, a DNA test can corroborate or contradict their guilt with an extremely high success rate. So, for individual suspects, I'm a big proponent for DNA testing. However, when you reverse the process, this all goes wrong. If you…

There has been a "Don't Be That Girl"-campaign, focussing on false rape accusations. It contained posters like "Just because you regret it the next morning, doesn't mean it wasn't consensual", or something like that. However, opponents criticized it, because they claimed that 'actual rape' is much more common than false accusations. This is very hard to counter, because there are very few reliable studies on false accusations.

I agree with other comments that mandatory minimums are usually bad ideas. Also I think a life sentence is kinda harsh. I think the problem is not the sentencing of false accusers. Rather it's the police refusing to charge and prosecute them, to prevent scaring off actual rape victims. I never really understood thus leap of logic. The entire justice system is built around protecting innocent people against being wrongly imprisoned, even if that means some guilty people will remain free.

comes from the feminist crowd. Where do you get that idea? I think it's just racism, plain and simple. Blaming it on feminists just sounds like "waah, I'm being oppressed by womenz!" to me. You can't blame every problem men have on feminists.

"30:30 All MRM have a set of myths. (1) That there are men’s issues; these ignored; feminism at fault 31:06 (2) Myth of false rape accusation. 31:12 (3) Myth of DV equal between men and women. 31:16 (4) Myth of Male Suicide 31:28 (5) Myth of Family Court/Custody. [...] 32:05 These myths are all LIES! [Light Applause.]" Wow, these people really are crazy. It's one thing to trivialize or ignore men's rights issues, but to explicitly deny their existence is ridiculous.
