This study has shown that local application of a potent corticoid cream and skin stretching is a safe, simple and effective long-term treatment for all types of unretractable foreskin in prepubertal boys. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19172103/

Infections may be more common in those with a vulva, but that doesn't make it OK to cut healthy girls. Even pricking is wrong.

Vulvovaginal complaints are common in the pediatric and adolescent age group. The patient's age in conjunction with history and associated complaints will guide evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. Treatment should include counseling on hygiene and voiding techniques as well as therapy for any specific pathogens identified. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27969009/

Cutting a healthy boy or girl's prepuce is pretty bad.

The circumcised penis requires more care than the intact penis during the first 3 years of life. Parents should be instructed to retract and clean any skin covering the glans in circumcised boys, to prevent adhesions forming and debris from accumulating. Penile inflammation (balanitis) may be more common in circumcised boys; preputial stenosis (phimosis) affects circumcised and intact boys with equal frequency. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9393302/

Not that difficult for a boy or girl to clean their prepuce.

Some even use religion, health, or hygiene as reasons for cutting a girl or boy's prepuce, which is also wrong.

Years ago a close friend asked how I felt, and I reflexively said I was fine with it. Maybe it planted a seed because eventually I sought information myself. The more I learn the more I hate it. I remember coming across articles like this, you may find it helpful.

Cutting the female prepuce (clitoral hood) is a recognized form of FGM. As is pricking.

Male circumcision is sometimes medically necessary Some women are cut to treat e.g. clitoral phimosis. It significantly reduces the risk of HIV and UTIs This study suggests no protective affect against HIV in a western context. No RCTs support the claim that it reduces UTIs, and past studies didn't account for confounding factors. has no significant impact on function The back-and-forth motion of the foreskin is a pretty defining feature of the penis. Female circumcision is primarily the removal…

Sufferers of the ritual have been ill-served by mental health professionals. I'm not interested in OP's assertions, just this false difference between FGM and MGM. More broadly I think genital mutilation is not a MRA issue, but a children's rights issue.

54 years ago is distance history. Not if the creep who cut me could've learned it. Complete function is complete function. Lacks that mechanical function, like how a woman can't rub her clit the same way if her hood was cut off. Averting masturbation is not male control, due to the fact that this is false First it was the intention that mattered, now it's the actual affect. Which is it? while driving cars, wearing clothes, getting on reddit Would you compare any of those things to cutting the fe…

So your reference is 54 years ago. You act like it's distant history. If you were cut before the turn of the century, your doctor very well could've learned you shouldn't be masturbating. And the modern notion that it's "cleaner" is a holdover from that moral cleanliness. you suffer no pain, no discomfort, complete function Well, a nonexistent foreskin obviously doesn't function anymore. An adult male is missing sizable amount of tissue, all from the business end of the penis. Not the case for e…

Is it promoted as a cure for masturbation now? Historical reasons are irrelevant. It was in Campbell's Urology vol.2 (1970), which means the doctor who cut me very well could've learned I shouldn't be masturbating. limited overall effects for life. Exactly like piecing a child’s ears. The back-and-forth motion of the foreskin is a pretty defining feature of the penis. Ear piercings don't ablate the most sensitive parts of the penis. Male circumcision is not It was promoted as a "cure" for masturbation. the lifelong effects are completely different What lifelong effect does cutting the female foreskin (clitoral hood) have that cutting the male foreskin does not?

It’s banned for girls because for girls it’s removing a human organ. All forms of FGM are banned, including cutting the female foreskin (clitoral hood). Male circumcision is the equivalent of getting a child’s ears pierced. Ear piercings don't ablates the most sensitive parts of the penis.

The Royal Dutch Medical Association says that the practice has no convincing benefits, numerous complications, and violates the child's rights. They say there's good reasons to ban the practice, and they even devote a section comparing it to female genital mutilation!

Cutting is unethical, especially into their private area, unless it's convincingly shown to be in the child's interest. Most intact women and men remain so; to cut a healthy child is to exploit their inability to refuse the ritual's pain, tissue loss, risks, and lack of benefits.

I don't consider circumcision to be genital mutilation. If you haven't learned about the damage, how can you know? You didn't even know that every cut guy has a scar! I'm very happy with my dick. If a woman is happy she was cut, does that mean it's not mutilation? Is it not mutilation for her to cut her daughter? The only national orgs you linked that say the benefits outweight the risks are American. Primary among them being AAP's 2012 statement, which they let expire in 2017. The other American orgs being downstream from them. I linked The Netherlands and Demark that say it has no benefits and risks serious complications, the former comparing it to female genital mutilation. They literally do, that's what i was quoting. The quotes don't say the benefits outweight the risks. Unless they say it somewhere else? they would be violating the Hippocratic Oath. Anyone who mutilates a healthy boy is violating their oath, yes. Doesn't mean anything will be done about it. all say that it is a relatively low risk optional procedure I linked two countries that say there's no benefits and a risk of complications, so clearly not all. I'm pretty sure that none of those orgs say that the benefits outweight the risks like the American orgs do. Furthermore, this only bolsters my cultural bias point, because now we have a linear scale: Countries where cutting is still the norm (America) recommend it. Countries with some history of cultural cutting (Australia, UK) acknowledge some benefits but don't recommend it. Countries with no history of non-religious cutting (The Netherlands, Denmark) say it has no benefits and that the cutti…

I said FGM is for the torture of women. Agreed, as MGM is for men. There's nothing scar like on my dick. Every cut guy has a circumscribed scar. I thought you told me you learned what's lost? Google: "foreskin glide", "ridged band", "foreskin functions" I'd probably say not to, because there's no practical reason. That's great! I'm sorry it impacted you so much discovering what you lost when you got circumcised Really? You can't even call what happened to me genital mutilation.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 11:32 PM

Agreed. I go further and call it genital mutilation to cut healthy boys and girls.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 11:31 PM

Yes, you cited a lot of American orgs, where doctors are culturally biased due to the normality of the cutting. And also the WHO, which is heavily infunced by the US as well.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 11:21 PM

The Danish Medical Association says that the cutting carries a risk of complications, involves pain and discomfort, and has no documented health benefits. They also say it's ethically unacceptable and that the practice should cease.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 11:17 PM
2

Are you suggesting that FGM is acceptable when it's done for religious reasons, as a rite of passage, or for some false notion of hygiene benefits? I think they look weird. There's nothing weird about the most sensitive parts of the penis. You like the look of an unnecessary scar?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 11:15 PM

No, I'm talking about genital mutilation on girls.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 11:09 PM

Gross comparison. You don't think all forms of FGM are horrific?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 11:05 PM

The only one who downplayed FGM was you when you initially struggled to call cutting of the female foreskin (clitoral hood) mutilation. And you still struggle to call the analog for males mutilation. I think all genital mutilation is horrific.

You sound like a mutilated woman defending what was done to her.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 10:54 PM

So do you or don't you consider it mutilation when a healthy girl's foreskin (clitoral hood) is cut?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 10:53 PM

The WHO categorizes cutting of the clitoral hood as FGM (type Ia). You think that's incorrect?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 10:49 PM
2

So you're upset that jerking off with a foreskin supposedly feels better? I've been "restoring" my foreskin, so I know it does. Would be dismissive of a woman who's upset that she can't rub her clitoral hood because it was cut off? Not circumcision Correct, but penile subincision is MGM, which disproves your point. vasectomies are usually done in the same clinics and circumcisions. At least where I'm from. I'm sure doctors in Egypt perform plenty of other operations besides cutting healthy girls…

I don't really care personally. I didn't care until I learned a bit about the foreskin, and then I had a revelation. There isn't a male genital mutilation type 1 2 3 and 4. Never heard of penile subincision? Castration? I'm also getting a vasectomy. Would you co spider that genital mutilation? No, just as it's not mutilation when an adult woman elects for labiaplasty. Both are very low risk and don't have much in the way of complications. The Swedish Medical Association says that the cutting sho…

I've convinced at least one person to use the term MGM!

Yep, you certainly haven't swayed me with your pro-FGM rhetoric!
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 09:56 PM
2

FGM type 2a is labiaplasty, which is arguably comparable as well. Some adult women even elect for it where I'm from. FGM type 3, infibulation, is clearly a step above the rest. FGM type 4 included pricking and scraping that removes no tissue. That's actually far less invasive!
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 09:53 PM

Hmm. That makes me wonder if the problem is that western NGOs don't understand their culture enough to form effective messaging. Maybe change has to come from within.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 09:47 PM
2

What are those different contexts and reasons? Keep in mind that every culture that cuts its girls also cuts its boys. Is it only bad when they cut one of their children, but not the other?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 09:45 PM
2

We can use the anatomical term "prepuce", if you'd prefer. Why's it mutilation to cut the prepuce for only one sex?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 09:21 PM

When you call it MGM, you are saying circumcized men have been mutilated. This doesn't stop western NGOs from opting for the term 'FGM' instead of softer language. The strategy seems to be to have those difficult conversations and educate women on the harms, even if it may make some women feel bad, because protecting girls is more important. But afaik the NGOs haven't met their goals, and some women have even protested against the bans. Do you think they should change their strategy?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 09:15 PM

Thanks for using the proper term, MGM. Some progress!
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 09:14 PM

Why are you harming the anti-FGM movement?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 08:57 PM

not the only form of cutting done and in fact is rarely done alone Cutting of the clitoral hood is actually the dominant form of FGM in places like Indonesia and Malaysia. /r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 07:42 PM

What's different about cutting of the female foreskin (clitoral hood)? You are never going to convince hundreds of millions of circumcised men that their penises are mutilated. Western NGOs are still trying to do that with FGM! Many cut women and men simply don't know what they're missing.

Did you? What are the most sensitive parts of the penis?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 07:29 PM

It's not that comparing MGM and FGM is necessary or unnecessary - it's just correct. To pretend otherwise you must ignore the analagous forms of FGM, which actually does a disservice to those victims.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 07:28 PM

Is your goal is simply to stop these unsanitary rituals? Absolutely not. I think that both MGM and FGM should cease, including the medicalized forms. Did I say that was the only aspect of FGM at issue? Your way of differentiating MGM and FGM was to ignore both ritual MGM and also medicalized FGM (i.e. relative privation). you have still yet to identify why it is not sufficient to simply say "circumcision is an outdated practice I agree that this is sufficient. Which is why even pricking/scraping…

I've been "restoring" my foreskin and only noticed improvments, mainly with the glide. And if anything it gives me more control, so it's a win-win. except in specific cases where the procedure was botched Even in the best case scenario it ablates the most sensitive parts of the penis.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 06:34 PM

Well, if you're relying on voluntary reporting, then men may have dysfunction but just assume that it's normal. I didn't think I lacked function until I learned about the foreskin.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 06:31 PM
6

The truth is that the WHO classifies it as FGM. Maybe your feelings about MGM are preventing you from acknowledging the analogous forms of FGM?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 06:12 PM
5

Well, sensitivity is important to me. I've been "restoring" my foreskin and only noticed improvements in that regard. But the primary benefit is actually mechanical (i.e. the back-and-forth motion of the foreskin). you will not be able to find any studies that show increased rates of either for circumcised men This study shows just that.

typically considered FGC and not FGM This idea is problematic. The WHO classifies it as FGM for a reason. The idea that it doesn't count as FGM is, ironically, a pro-FGM talking point. still a minority to global cases Well, Indonesia and Malaysia are quite populous, and over half the population is cut. I think it does a disservice to those victims to sweep it under the rug just to avoid the comparison.

Hoodectomy (type Ia) and pricking/scraping that removes no tissue (type IV) are most common in Malaysia. The WHO may be referring to what happens in Africa. Ironically, those cultures argue that it doesn't count as "FGM" because it's not clitorectomy. So they use the same tactics as MGM defenders.

I wasn't bothered until I learned just a bit about the foreskin, at which point I had a revelation. I now feel that I lost a really cool part of me for no reason. Many cut women and men simply don't know what they're missing.

Unfortunately not. They've been around since the old internet (e.g. Gilgal society).

Countries in Europe do have public housing. This thread started with the distinction between liberal and leftist. The Democratic part is not a leftist/labor party, unfortunately.

California is liberal, not leftist. There's no leftist movement in the United States.

Immigrants also start businesses and create more jobs - it all scales. Housing issue is more to do with corporatists buying up supply and zoning issues. And also a lack of public housing - something leftist policy would fix. Just another example of immigrants being used to distract from the real problems. Capitalists love you guys!

Increase in labor supply leads to economic growth. They also are consumers, and well as pay taxes. Whenever natural born citizens mass-move it's typically viewed as an economic boon for the receiving state (e.g. when people were moving to Texas).

There's is a problem at the border, but it's a processing problem. We should be vetting them faster. The hysteria about crime is nonsense. Immigrants are good for the economy if anything.

If you're more concerned about immigrant crime than natural-born citizen crime, to the point of hysteria, then yes it is reactionary fear-mongering. If you're not gonna go by data then you can just fabricate whatever satisfies your emotional bias.

This is reactionary fear-mongering that's simply not supported by the data. Xenophobia is not only hateful, but it also distracts from the very real material problems that working Americans face.

I'm going off Department of Justice data. Immigrants commit less crime than natural born citizens, and that holds true for violent crime specifically.

The social issues are largely a distraction and/or hysteria. For example, immigrants actually commit less crime than natural born citizens. Crime is largely due to poverty (i.e. material needs), which affects people of all backgrounds. An actual leftist/labor party could focus on the material needs of the working class and thus appeal to men. The Democratic party is not that, unfortunately.

Gee I wish the media were leftist. Unforunately it's very much liberal and beholden to corporate interests, not leftist.

Yeah they're essentially admitting that they take advantage of the fact that an infant is too young to object. Pretty crazy.

Most men choose to keep the most sensitive part of their penis when it's not taken from them as a child.

There's nothing "extra" about the most sensitive part of the penis.

I also recommend this article from 38 European doctors in which they accuse the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) of cultural bias. AAP being the main source of the health benefit claims.

The only thing male genital mutilation reduces is the penis. The Royal Dutch Medical Association says it has no convincing health benefits.

My money is on one of the Nordic countries. After a child died back in 2001 in Sweden, a ban was introduced, but after pressure from religious orgs an exception was made for the first two months after birth. Iirc there were talks more recently of banning it in Iceland and Denmark, but those also fell through.

The Royal Dutch Medical Association says it has no convincing health benefits, numerous complications, and that it volates the child's rights. They says there's good reasons to ban the practice, and they even devote multiple pages likening it to female genital mutilation!

The Royal Dutch Medical Association says, Further, there is apparent evidence that circumcision offers protection against complaints such as HPV infection, urinary tract infections and penis cancer. However, these studies, too, are controversial. 38 European doctors in their response to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) say, Penile cancer is 1 of the rarest forms of cancer in the Western world (∼1 case in 100, 000 men per year), almost always occurring at a later age. When diagnosed early…
