This coupling of provider/provided makes absolutely no sense, when you realize no such dichotomy existed for most of human history. This is like the vast majority of relationships in human history up until liberalization and capitalism. There is no conscious act by men or women to keep genes strong, but we are still animals. If you wanted to pass on your genes, meaning have a child with man, in no way are you going to select a man who's personality and physical appearance is not at least somewhat attractive to you.
