The SPLC is a misandric organization because they have women posting articles. The level of self-awareness in this sub is hilarious.

So sluts can't be raped. Got it. Thanks, /r/MensRights!

I'm not sure why you're assuming that I read your comment the moment you posted it. Maybe you're confusing me for someone else? I feel like the concept of someone reading something hours or even days after the initial posting is not that unusual, either.

a bigot using confirmation bias to justify their bigotry. Never seen that before Maybe you would if you read more of your own comments.

Dude, I got banned from /r/feminism because I got banned from /r/askfeminists for trolling the Red Pill trolls. They're ban-happy, but it's not personal.

Haha I get 50-75 emails a day too, and 99% of them are very positive, and many of them are from feminists, or people who are related to feminists, or people who know feminists. Wait did I mention that 99% of those emails are just from a listserve from my school offering me internships, and they're positive in that they frame the internship offered in a positive light? When you give partial information with the sound of "truthiness," it doesn't make a thing you say significant. It's like how Fox …

You cited no sources and your organization is lacking. You also use the first person and don't spell out numbers under 100, and you use hypothetical questions. You'd be lucky to score a "D" on a paper like this, OP. English teacher will not be amused.

Because being raped is just like having your tablet stolen. I don't understand how people who get angry that some women don't understand that a boner =/= consent also say that women should "know better" when it comes to wearing short shorts at night.

I'd just like to point out that you're getting angry over a "double-standard" when it hasn't even been demonstrated that the double-standard exists yet. You're just assuming that you know the outcome.

Dude, the rules of that sub specifically say you can't call the "victim" culpable or speak about them in a derogatory manner. Whether or not she was being snarky and rude and was undeserving of a non-creepy text conversation, the sub's rules specifically say you're not allowed to call her on that. They tell you to downvote and move on if you don't like something, and not bring it in to the comments, yet you brought it into the comments. I'm not saying that you weren't right about the OP, but you…

"I've met a few misandrist feminazis. How could I ever forget the several women at my university who genuinely believed all men were rapists? Or the friend's housemate who never said "men", only "fucking men" whenever she was forced to use that offensive three-letter word? So there you have it. Misandry exists. My only question is: Who cares? The men's rights activists do, obviously, but why? Sure, there are more than a few genuine man-haters out there, but how has that impacted my life? I've ne…

Now you're getting mad at me for insisting women have part of their "privileged" status taken away (in that only men actually fight on the dangerous front lines). You're the one contradicting yourself, and looking for stupid excuses to criticize me when I'm AGREEING with you.

Fine, belittle a civil rights movement. But denying that MRM has deep-seated issues won't stop the misogynists from drowning out talk about legitimate issues, either. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/10/20/the-masculine-mystique-inside-the-men-s-rights-movement-mrm.html

You want sources? Spend 10 minutes on google searching feminism-positive terms instead of looking for youtube videos edited to make feminists look like simple bitches. A simple search of the term "feminists support gender-neutral legislation" brings up this article as the first result: http://www.feministlawprofessors.com/2012/07/call-gender-neutral-alimony/ But I think you might find this article more interesting, as it explains what I've been trying to point out to you: http://www.thedailybeas…

By single sources I meant single voices that don't represent the group. I'm frustrated because I don't understand when it became necessary to justify feminism. I'm frustrated because I now understand why MRM doesn't like feminists: because it thinks that what we want is trivial or even fake -- to which I reference you the top half of your last post. THAT is where you said it's imaginary. You also dismissed feminism just by asking me how I'm being oppressed. Why am I offended by this? Because I n…

All right, I tried to be fair, but now you're questioning whether feminism is even necessary. I never once said that Men's Rights issues were unimportant or imaginary. And you can pull from single sources all you like, but that's like pointing at the Westboro Baptist Church and saying all Christians hate gays. I'll leave you with this. http://sorayachemaly.tumblr.com/post/50361809881/why-society-still-needs-feminism-because-to-men

Can I identify how I'm being oppressed? Well there's the fact that statistically I'll probably be paid 3/4 of what my male coworkers are paid (if I'm lucky) and will be passed over for promotions that I'm more qualified for, but then I'm lucky enough to live in a country that lets me educate myself, chose when and whom I marry, and lets me leave the house by myself. As far as VAWA, I agree it can and should be expanded to include men. As far as NOW... well personally I think abused women need a …

Firstly there's myself. I would gladly sign up for the draft (I mean... not gladly, but proudly) as long as I would be allowed to serve in combat in the same capacity as any man. Secondly, there's the National Organization for Women, which passed a resolution in the 80's saying that a male-only draft was sexist. That's one I know off the top of my head. You could also try asking feminists; I'm sure most would say we either need to eliminate the draft or make it gender inclusive (for the reasons …

(again I wasn't comparing you to the KKK; just the first group that popped to my mind). I think what the Men's Rights movements fails to realize (or maybe realizes, in some cases?) is that by demonizing feminism, they ARE pushing gender relations back to pre-feminist eras (not that society will actually backtrack that much, but any backtracking toward that is bad). When men assume that feminists all hate men and are intentionally out to push through laws that will discriminate against men, they …

Ah, yes, I see your point now. However I still feel that "Men's Rights" sounds... well.. unsellable. Before you try making the argument of "it's being talked about more and more and we have more followers," well the same can be said of the early days of groups like the KKK (not that I'm comparing you to the KKK, just pointing out that groups are capable of gaining support without ever gaining any popularity or power in the larger scheme of things).
/r/MensRights06/11/13 04:27 AM

I was too lazy to retype the same argument to so many people, since they all retaliated with the same argument anyways. However I was still interested in continuing the intelligent discussion with anyone who cared. Also, thanks for the "it" characterization. Really humanizing. Does a great job of dispelling misogynistic stereotypes in your movement.

which isn't helped by people with other views secluding themselves into their own, separate group. It's kind of like how gay rights movements are dominated by talk of gay marriage, excluding issues like basic civil rights protections (in many states it's totally legal to fire someone on the basis of sexuality).

That's a rather twisted view of feminism you have. Sounds like the same "hairy-legged butch lesbian stereotype" people came up with to undermine the appeal of an equality movement... kind of like how people paint men's rights activists as misogynists. Also I didn't say you should all become feminists. I said Gender Equality. Squares and Rectangles.

No, I said a "Gender Equality" movement. Personally I'm a feminist but I'm ALSO a supporter of Gender Equality. Squares and rectangles.

I guess I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't, aren't I? I think gender equality is a necessary goal, but men have historically been the oppressors. OVERALL (not just in single-issue or single-member instances) men have never been oppressed just for being men. That does not mean that men can't be raped or that men shouldn't be child rearers. But that's different from men as a group being oppressed. Who has all the power in government? Men. Who has all the money? Men. Who gets all the educatio…

Your point has a fatal flaw -- those men weren't being oppressed because they were men. Nobody was saying "men are no good for anything but mining." They were low-class, which is an ENTIRELY different issue. See, part of my problem with the men's rights movement is that they tend to completely belittle feminists instead of recognizing that they share common goals, which is why I draw the comparison to white rights movements. Feminists WANT women to have to sign up for the draft. They WANT women …

I think there are some aspects of the men's rights movement that are necessary, like fighting for men to be equally considered in child custody battles (I was raised by a single father and so happy it was him and not my crazy mother). However this point can easily be argued in a more general "gender equality" movement that is not only more palatable, but more inclusive.

I'm being serious. I'm not against the Men's Rights movement per se, just pointing out why people won't back it. A "Gender Equality" movement would be more palatable and more inclusive.

Okay, but what does his poverty have to do with his gender? Because that's what a gender-equality movement is supposed to be about: people being systematically disenfranchised because of their gender.
/r/MensRights05/11/13 06:39 AM

People mock men's rights movements for the same reason they mock white rights movements. Men aren't and never have been oppressed, and the idea of a dominant group like men or white people needing a "rights" movement is ridiculous.
/r/MensRights05/11/13 01:09 AM

A lot of times, yes. But it's sort of like creating a "Caucasian Rights" group -- you're going to be accused of being white supremacists, whether or not that's true. My point is just that OP would have a lot more luck and success if he didn't try to create a group that would just be accused of misogyny. Not many people will agree with the group or support it, because they'll tend to assume it's not really a good cause.

I agree that that is ridiculous, but I think Men's Rights clubs have a strong history of being thinly-veiled women-hating groups. Maybe put up posters saying "Men don't cause rape. Rapists cause rape." or something similar.
