This comment isn’t getting nearly enough attention. It’s easier for a rich guy to become a hot guy, because he can spend more money on himself to improve how hot he is . Remove all variables but well fitting clothes and salary, well fitting clothes will beat out a slob making more a year in terms of attractiveness. More wealth means you can afford finding and buying those clothes, getting a personal trainer, buying more expensive but healthier food.

I’d agree that it has become more hostile. But it doesn’t have to be. We can make it a good place for everyone to debate. I think we’re all here to some degree or another because none of the established “groups” are right.

I think there’s some nuance that’s getting missed. You start as strangers, getting to know them and becoming friendly acquaintances, then friendly, then the potential for a relationship. That can happen at different rates depending on the situation, and the people involved. The same person may respond differently in different circumstances, there’s a lot of factors you don’t know. Yeah it sounds as though there’s a completely separate axis from attractive / ugly. Would you say there are attractive but unremarkable men?

Yes I’m lumping in neutral with unattractive. Both cases aren’t a state men desire to be in. Maybe the distinction is something like “why go through the process of evaluating attractiveness, if there isn’t a prompt for it (remark ability)”

That’s an interesting point. Do men find more women attractive or are they just horny? If they weren’t horny, would they still find the same number of women attractive? I don’t think most men separate their lust from attraction.

I liked Misty’s explanation about how nothing below the “remark ability bar” is considered attractive. Decent I think is trying to show that the bar is affected by remarkable men that are outside of the local dating pool through social media etc.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
