Wow that is almost word for word what I said to my stbx. Mine responded with “you deserve better than I can give you”. Same outcome.

You are coming at this more worried about your money than your kid. Of course you’re going to be torn apart. You’re an asshole. But that doesn’t mean you’re not right to want to leave. I would write an upfront check in your position and just be done. You’ve not been married long enough to make spousal support that painful. You sound like you have some work to do on yourself, your priorities, and what the future actually looks like post divorce with kids. Make sure you make time for that too.

Do you have evidence of you being at least a 50 / 50 parent already? Judges don’t just give women what they want. They do what they think is best for the kids and if you’ve been the caregiver 50% of the time already, what’s best is keeping status quo.

Not nesting and I agree with your take that it’s bad. Kids 50 / 50 in our current home where I will be and at stbx new place.

She can’t afford to (and I can’t afford to buy her out either). That’s what brings us to this compromise.

She has her own place…why would I watch?

Similar situation it sounds like. Same salary level, focused on ensuring kids are in a good place. GL mate.

It’s 2 million in equity. It’s not going to the wife. That’s part of our hesitation is we are thinking we both just take the windfall once the kids are graduated and go live our lives and retire.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
