I am thinking of joint ju-jitsu soon. That sounds like fun. I believe that you are what you attract. When someone smiles back, you know that a little piece of you resonates within them as well. Wishing you the best!

Everyone has different reasons for waiting. Let people live at their own pace. Some 20-somethings aren't ready to handle a commitment. In my 20s, I was a depressed late-bloomer with low self-esteem, and had trouble juggling my school & work schedules. Dating felt so out-of-reach, and I stayed a virgin until my early 30s. I'm glad I waited, because today, I'm in a much better place to be in a relationship. Commitment is something you give to another, and it takes a certain level of maturity and s…

I admire how open you are to strangers. It takes guts and self-assuredness. There will always be people in this world who are not open to our advances, and that's totally fine. Some women have poor self-image and complimenting them brightens up their day. Others won't react so kindly, but with experience, you'll be able to tell whether or not someone is approachable by reading their body language. Music concerts & exhibitions are good places to meet people. I also recommend joining a community c…

Sorry for the late reply: I’m 38 and definitely have morbid moments. I witnessed my mom and her friends go through menopause awhile back and it was a reality check. Libidos change and bodies change, and it’s totally okay!

Sorry for the late reply. About regret: I don’t think about it much. What happened has happened. I can’t change the past, so all I can do is to make the best of what’s already been built. How about you?

I see where your fear stems from. Try seeing it this way: weren’t all locals once immigrants themselves? Why not build more housing and free up the many vacant units being used as investments and Airbnbs? There is plenty of space and housing units in this country. The real problem is that housing becomes capital, just like every other asset in our society.

It seems like all you do on this sub is defend your own mental positions. There’s no attempt at empathy or camaraderie. It’s not conducive to friendship, if that’s what you’re looking for. Sorry, but like your other respondents, I no longer find these conversations to be fun or satisfying, as they’re predictably critical and one-sided.

Academia largely ignore misandry. As feminists don't think its really a thing. Perhaps misogyny is a more urgent topic of study because historically, it has incited physical violence. Hardly have I heard misandry result in extremism, bodily harm, and homicides to the extent that we have had with the latter. All sexism can lead to abuse, but on a whole, misandrists have been relatively less violent compared to misogynists. Some people argue that misandry is a response to misogyny and vice versa. …

From my observation, talking about sex & relationships is avoided amongst men working in large corporations. The more professional the setting, the more professional conduct is expected, I suppose. That being said, tight-knit work groups tend to gossip more. My boyfriend used to work in a busy kitchen at a restaurant. Those men & women gossiped about relationships all the time! That gossip often continued after work at a bar. I've seen men open up to women rather than other men. Male workers see…

Some discovered that they actually prefer to have minimal social contact. Nah. I came to that conclusion during the pandemic, also from reading about modern social phenomena such as the Hikikomori in Japan. I’m also an introvert and so are most of my friends. The pandemic simply made introverts more introverted. My boyfriend and I have greatly reduced our social circle since 2020. That year, we met up with 1 friend IRL. If you think about it, misandrists and misogynists truly belong together, because they are perfect opponents. Without the others’ opposing views, discourse would end. In order to fuel their respective causes, they must continue the conflict. They scratch each other’s itch like no one else can. Perhaps you’re looking for someone to perfectly oppose your views so you can bounce back with perfect retorts. I am not that person.

Hahaha, of course I’m going to make presumptions about someone who enjoys making negative generalizations about the opposite gender online. Online misandry & misogyny are subcultures that the academic community vigorously studies, and they have assigned certain stereotypes to its participants. Look it up. It’s up to you to break out of them. My boyfriend recently opened up to me about how he used to hang out in these circles and that he decided to leave. I learned a lot about the “manosphere” fr…

It sounds like you feel held back by your past experiences, many of which were negative. I believe that who you are: the true you, is much more than the sum of your experiences (or lack thereof). What if the negative traits we assign ourselves are projections held over from the past? I also believe that when someone truly loves you, they will accept all of you, including your past, as I'm sure you would do the same for her. That’s basically every woman in the modern world. If they're in their 20s, they're likely experimenting and not in a mindset to settle down. I actually avoided dating until my 30s, because the hook-up culture in my 20s was too much for me to handle. It wasn't easy, but I'm glad I waited. I have an anecdote: Before we met, my boyfriend used to be more resentful towards women and frequented masculinity forums. Somehow this changed after we got together, and he no longer participates in those spaces. His feed is now made up of sports, politics, and awesome animal videos which he shares with me. If someone tells you that they're repulsed by your religion, I'd call it religious discrimination. This is different from religious disagreement. If someone holds different views, but does not attack you for having yours, it is not discrimination. There is nothing inherently wrong with being religious. It's the people who use religious dogma to attack others who are dangerous.

Aye, this is exhausting. Your attacks were objectively personal in nature, and subjective in allegation. Take note how they all began with "you": You see interracial dating and marriages as inherently problematic and you are seeking an explanation to help you cope with that. But the fact is that support for interracial marriage is growing in America and the vast majority of people approve of it now. You should really reflect on why you have such a problem with interracial dating. Lol, putting on shoes now. Has it crossed your mind that both Asian men and Women can be bad, and in different ways? We are imperfect humans. Sometimes I'm bad. Sometimes you're bad. In this case, pointing out the observed flaws of a certain group of people becomes self-reflective practice. I see flaws in me. I see them in women around me. And this is okay! So I think this beauty standard you're mentioning is a recent thing and a social construct. Beauty standards change throughout time. White people have colonized most of the developed world, and their aesthetics have dominated pop culture since the advent of mass media, likely owing to US allies winning WWII and the creation of Hollywood. Today, a good number of people in Asia get rhinoplasties, blepharoplasty, and jaw-shaping surgeries to create a more cosmopolitan look. I remember my classmate,…

Am I not entitled to my opinions and free to post wherever I please on the internet? I allow you these liberties so give me mine. Of course men have extremely difficult lives. Traditional division of labor means they often face a different set of difficulties as well . However, taking out life's frustrations on another human being, or a group of people (whether it be gender, race, or socio-economical class) is not okay. A pedestal moment as in East Asian women are currently popular in the media and in dating circles. My boyfriend claims that they're the most sought-after in the dating market. I can't back up that claim, as I haven't dated much. Maybe I'm the exception, but I've always bonded with Asian men IRL. Guess I'm outside this online gender/race war. It's a vicious cycle of hate. Honestly a lot of it doesn't make sense to me, and it's safer to observe from a distance. Maybe it's just karma playing out. T…

Yes, financial education is important for girls. Unfortunately we live in a capitalistic society where every penny counts towards survival. If you can't fight the financial system (even though it's corrupt), you can only use it to play to your advantage.

And that's why I'm saving. My boyfriend isn't a saver, but that's fine. We keep our accounts separate. Have you ever met a woman in working in finance? People simply have different perceptions of money. Speaking of housing: buying a house is often out-of-reach for young Americans due to inflation. My grandparents could buy one for $100K. Today, the average price in my area is $1.5mil. A lot of young people have given up the dream of home ownership and are renting instead. In cities, they commute…

"Money is the root of all evil." -Paul the Apostle I have 5x savings compared to my boyfriend. I am very frugal. He dabbles in sports betting, gadgets, and male jewelry. It makes him happy, so why not? You have one life to live. Spend money on the things you need & enjoy, whatever these are. You can't take money with you to the grave. Have you ever watched the Christmas Story? Poverty of the spirit is worse than poverty itself.

Arranged marriages work only if they're consensual. I've had several Pakistani roommates and coworkers from traditional families. Here are their stories: "A" was married off by her family at 17 to a retired Pakistani general. She was straight out of school and has never entered the workplace or seen the world. However, she was a highly ambitious student and wanted to study abroad. This was impossible as she was now dependent on her husband. Over time, she tired of her stay-at-home lifestyle, and…

I'm glad you know your type. If you're religious, lots of people meet their spouses at places of worship such as church, temple, etc. Traditional women will tend to have different hobbies than you, so you're less likely to find them in STEM or male-dominated workplaces. You're more likely to find them doing caring & services jobs, perhaps in teaching, hospice or retail.

Also historically, Asian men in the US have been seen as competition by white men. The earliest migrants were humble & extremely industrious. For example, Chinese migrants built up all the railroads in the US for little pay. They were taking so many jobs to a point where the US passed the Chinese Exclusion act in 1882 (now repealed). Don’t get me started on Japanese internment during WWII. That’s for another time. There has always been stigma towards Asian men taking on leadership roles. This is…

Hey no problem, I enjoy this conversation as well. Like you I got into the rabbit hole last year and was fascinated by this Reddit phenomenon. I remember a term they used, “Boba Liberals”, referring to privileged, whitewashed Asian Americans who only identified with Asian aesthetics, but ignored the problems in their greater community. They trolled female journalists on Twitter, calling out their articles as being biased against Asian males. I think this was one of them: https://www.vogue.co.uk/…

Makes sense. In high school in 2003, I remember this new blog called “Angry Asian Man”. He got popular by calling out Asian male stereotypes in the media. I thought it was pretty cool. Today it really has evolved into a movement. I wish I knew where these men are located, and wonder how strong the Asian communities are in their locales. Lack of strong role models & moral support in the greater community can exacerbate racial isolation. I was really lucky to have been raised in The Bay Area, wher…

Early conditioning influences dating preferences. For example, my dad is well-mannered, kind, sweet and agreeable. I have fond memories of spending time with him, so naturally I seek out similar men. I’m not European, but Asian American who has had roommates from East Asia, India, Pakistan, and the Middle East, and am highly attuned to traditional wedding customs in non-European countries. Sexist customs still persist today, especially amongst the impoverished. Here are some of the stories I encountered: I had a Pakistan…

Historically, men always had the option to stay single. Single men were not ostracized by society to the extent that women were. In the past, women were often sold off as brides and traded around like property by their families. Some even to this day. The option to not marry is a fairly new development for them. The progress made for women in the past century has been monumental.

Having unprotected sex increases your chances of getting an STD. Having unprotected sex can also make you pregnant. Just have protected sex and get tested, for God’s sake, or abstain. It’s not just Syphilis, but Herpes & HIV. These are incurable diseases that stay with you all your life. Many STD transmitters are dormant carriers that show no symptoms or fail to disclose their disease to their partners.

And that’s what women need to work on. I’m from Silicon Valley, a place as progressive as it gets, where double-income couples pretty much split everything down the middle because the cost of living is so high. In order to reap the rewards of equality, both men & women have to pitch in.

This is true. Women need to apply their newly-earned equality to the dating space as well. That includes splitting bills, splitting chores, taking the initiative when needed, etc. A lot of independent women do all these things and feel great about it. But some women don’t. With equality comes responsibility. The responsible women are not the ones constantly complaining about men online, they’re collaborating with them IRL.

The real issue is that the traditional concept of marriage & family is no longer attractive to young women as before. In the past, marriage was a requirement. Today it is optional. If women can live independently like men, they are no longer desperate to depend on them for survival. They see them as equals, if not competitors in the same fields. Women reach menopause in their late 40s-50s, leading to an overall decrease in sexual desire. Good luck being high-libido when you’ve become biologically infertile. Priorities will change as you age. Historically, Asian American men have been culturally emasculated. It’s not their fault. Just look at how they’re portrayed in the media. Some Asian American women just want to “blend in” with other Americans so they adopt their dating preferences as well. It’…

To each their own. Skinny people are less likely to judge each other’s body type, and vice versa. For example, if you’re a “big” person whose only attracted to skinny people, you can be sure that the skinny person is judging your body in silence. If they haven’t, it’s because they’re willing to look past appearances and don’t want to hurt your feelings.

As I get older, I'm realizing the most comfortable relationship is with someone you can be your authentic self around. No one is perfect and nobody knows how a relationship will turn out. Everyone just tries to make the best decision in that moment. Mistakes are the best teachers in life.

Well then, neither of us can know for sure if they don't tell us, lol. What I can tell you is that I'm still very attracted to my boyfriend after 4 years, and that our bedroom is not dead. You'll hear about dead bedrooms on r/deadbedrooms. Don't forget the silent majority. One thing Reddit doesn't tell you is that ~50% of every long term relationship involves witnessing each other snore, poop and fart ;)

I don't know anyone who would marry someone they don't have a basic primal attraction towards. Pure mental attraction = platonic roommates. Most people I know don't consider marriage until at least 5 years in. That is, if you survived beyond the honeymoon phase.

We all went to the same art school and were offered similar career opportunities after graduation depending on major. Our school has an 18% acceptance rate. Entry is based on evaluation of your portfolio, test scores, and a home drawing test. Last time I checked, there were no gender-based scholarships. The quota is actually skewed towards men, because the applicant ratio leans more female. One of my friends & his wife met in the same grad program and are now both art teachers. They're literally…

They're a lot of people you can feel "attraction" to, but are they all a good fit for you in the long run? The more you get to know yourself through others, the clearer your needs & wants.

I like your optimism. As a woman in my late 30s, I saw every single one of my male friends get married in the past couple of years. We were all nerds/doomers in our 20s, got stable jobs in our early 30s, and found somebody around 35. I'm still in awe by how many weddings we've had recently. To be honest, I never thought we'd get here (sheds tear of joy).

My boyfriend & I were both virgins into our late 20s. Late bloomers unite! There's nothing wrong with starting out late. Life often gives you what you need, not what you want. Be grateful that you skipped out on a lot of STDs. Life won't get better until you learn to accept yourself and what life has given you. The way you treat others is a direct reflection of the way you treat yourself, and that is: with little respect.

That's exactly it. Historically, young, poor women sought out old, wealthy men, often through arranged marriages. This dynamic still exists today, though it is more democratized and less often arranged by parents.

Update: It can be illegal to use AI facial recognition software (specifically Clearview AI) in a few states, the strictest being Illinois. In 2008, they passed the "Biometric Information Privacy Act", requiring consent to use people's facial photos. Check your state laws to make sure. I had a traumatic childhood with a single mother. Social media opened my eyes to the reality that many young women experienced similar trauma, and share similar fears surrounding motherhood. However, I'm in a wonderful long-term relationship so I work on overcoming these fears. Discussing motherhood on such a global scale is unprecedented and a double-edged sword. One way a higher IQ person might benefit is that they also tend to score higher on other aptitude tests such as the SATs, which will place them in a more prestigious institution and help them land a cushier job down the line. Funny analogy: In order to operate a car, we show proficiency by taking both a multiple choice test and a driving test. But in order to show proficiency as a human being, we just take the multiple-choice test, without having to show how well we operate our bodies, lol.

Least-flawed does not equate unflawed. A fruit salad with only 2 types of fruit is better than no fruit at all, but it still isn’t what most people would consider a “fruit salad”. A better gauge of intelligence would be through observing conduct in real-life scenarios. Does this person treat others with empathy? How efficiently do they deal with responsibilities? How do they problem-solve when responding to conflicts, emergencies and crisis situations? And so on… How & where you apply intelligen…

Yes, we’re living in the Wild West of facial recognition technology and there aren’t a lot of laws & or regulations surrounding it, so nobody knows for sure what’s okay or what’s not. Until we reach a widespread consensus, people will keep doing what they personally think is ethical, which is why it’s even more important to consider each other’s feelings regarding online identity.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/09/23 04:02 PM

Knowing they are flawed, IQ tests should not be used to quantify a person’s intelligence. Also, some people are simply better test-takers than others. No one is “too smart” to become someone’s romantic partner. It is what skills are lacking that become issue, such as lack of empathy, interpersonal skills, or survival instinct. Intellectual ability is a bonus.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/09/23 03:54 PM

That’s a very considerate way to go about it. I’d do the same. People snoop all the time. At work, we used to browse the Instagram profiles of prospective hires. Nude pics were a definite no-no. If an image is made publicly available, then it is publicly open to scrutiny.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/09/23 03:15 PM

Let’s start by saying that IQ and intelligence are not the same. IQ measures a particular segment of human intelligence: Mathematical logic, word recognition, recollection speed. Human intelligence spans a much wider range of skills, including real-world problem solving, survival, hand-eye coordination, creativity, kindness, empathy, people skills, the list goes on. It’s more likely that high IQ scorers spend more time cultivating their mental skills, which means spending less time socializing a…

Ya see what I mean? Don’t tell your prospective date that you searched for their nude pics. Keep it to yourself. Some people are sensitive and will be turned off. You reassuring them that it’s okay does not make the atmosphere any more romantic.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/09/23 02:43 PM

Of course everyone is entitled to personal security and the means to obtain it. Just saying it’s not the most romantic item to bring up during a date. This subreddit fools you into thinking that every user is a spokesperson for their entire gender, when everything is subjective.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/09/23 02:29 PM

It’s not a gender issue. It’s about personal security. The only gender-sensitive part is whether or not you feel comfortable disclosing your background checking activities to your date.

Yikes! I feel like most fathers would love custody, but some simply cannot afford child support, or don't want to bear that financial burden. I know my dad loves me and wanted to see me as much as possible, even with his new life. He just doesn't want to bring up not being to afford raising me or helping me pay for college. I empathize with his decisions, though there were times when I felt life was unfair.

Most of life is unfair. But that's not what life is about. It's about accepting what IS, enjoying the present moment, and making the best of what you have, no matter how challenging your current circumstances are. People who spend a lot of time on social media will be influenced by it. People who don't won't be. It's simple as that. It's an influencer's job to sell you a fantasy lifestyle so you're enticed into clicking on their affiliated content and purchase their sponsored products. That's how they make $$$. Besides, it doesn't sound like you're attracted to her either, as you described her as "schlubby". Are you sending her seductive vibes, or are you actually slightly repulsed by her appearance? When we're young, we subconsciously want everyone to find us attractive because it's self-validating, even when we're not attracted to them. Real attraction is mutual.

Reality: When my parents divorced, my mom received $0 in alimony and did not instate child support because she was concerned about my dad's finances. My dad paid what he wanted, but completely dropped off a few years in when he moved states, switched jobs, and met a new woman. Your last paragraph is spot on, and so is the retail analogy. I call dating apps “social media” because they all feature an infinitely scrolling feed, built-in chat, and use similar algorithms to measure engagement. They all follow this feedback loop: “Like” or “Dislike”, “Update algorithm”, then “Update content to meet algorithmic change”. I’m an UX student so have begun noticing these underlying patterns. I suck at social interactions too. A lot more people struggle with it than we think. I was celibate for 5 years before meeting my boyfriend. The two things that kept me going were: not comparing myself to others, and learning to enjoy doing things alone. Yes, it’s best to have honest, realistic expectations about our sex lives. These conversations are especially important as our bodies age. Setting unrealistically high expectations to “secure their partner” is unhealthy and unsustainable in the long run. Congrats on your upcoming marriage!

Another factor to consider is Menopause. A woman’s reproductive hormones start declining in their 30s. We become mostly infertile by our late 40s to 50s. A decline in sexual desire is to be expected. Men on the other hand, keep producing sperm until they die. Their libidos see a much shallower decline. This is why you still see old men fathering children into their ripe age.

Look at Nature: all animals have sex, breed, and then die. If you spend some time observing birds, you’ll often see males dancing in front of females, only to watch them fly off. Females reject sexual advances most of the time. It is just the way. We were created to be discriminating when choosing the right time and partner to breed with. Sex for recreation se…

I wasn’t talking about sex denial. Where did I mention that? I’m talking about couples with children who are both too tired to have sex, and elderly couples who are less physically active and hormonally charged due to age. I feel a lot of empathy for you and other singles coming out of the pandemic. It put a huge damper on dating and public interactions in general. I’m not sure if we’re totally back to normal, but it’s nice to see everyone making an effort to socialize again. We used to hang out at parks, in libraries, classes, inside stores, at the cafe; that’s where we met people before screens! I’m hopeful that these spaces will be filled again once COVID is finally done & over with.

Sounds like you’re quite skilled at this! It takes finesse to juggle multiple potential partners, something our ancestors were not used to. All social media apps are designed to scroll infinitely. Doing so maximizes engagement by creating the illusion of unlimited possibilities, encouraging users to “keep looking” instead of “settling” with their current options. And since there are more men on apps, women have more options, and so are more likely to “browse”.

Don't let it get to you. Like my bf says: The only thing you should take seriously on your phone is your bank app, lol. There are probably a lot more men than women on these apps, so women get more attention as a result. Faced with "unlimited" options, a user could talk to multiple people simultaneously (and indefinitely) until they decide to become exclusive. Thanks for sharing. I've only used Bumble, where I met my bf. It's possible that algorithms are skewing matches towards premium & high-traffic profiles, leaving most users in the dark. You do realize that social media platforms like TikTok employ algorithms that encourage extremist content, right? Viewers are more likely to react to toxic posts, which is why these get bumped to the top of your feed. It's a negative feedback loop: The more you react to negative content, the more of it you'll see. What we perceive as "society" on the internet is completely distorted by algorithmic optimization. I recommend reading Jaron Lanier if you'd like to learn more about this phenomenon.

Everyone is headed for a dead bedroom. Factor in stress, insomnia, kids, menopause, and a decrease in sexual hormones due to aging, even the horniest of couples will end up having a lot less sex in 30 yrs. If you're in a dangerous situation, wouldn't you want the people near you (Male or Female) to help you? This is much broader than a gender or political issue. Bad things happen all the time, not just person-on-person crime. You could be in an accident or a natural disaster, and you better hope that a stranger will be there to intervene!

Hahaha, I was just at the San Diego Zoo. It was so crowded, I wondered if the animals were really watching us. A lot of couples start to "let themselves go" after kids, unless they're very wealthy and have live-in nannies. Otherwise it's all sacrifice for the kids while they suck all the life force out of you. I did see a middle-aged man looking adorable in a Gengar Hawaiian shirt. Probably did it for his kids as well!

Asian woman here with hapa family & inlaws: I concur. American culture places hypersexual expectations on young people. Generally, Asian cultures don't condemn late bloomers, so men & women aren't pressured to get "experience". Instead, the pressure is placed on academic & career achievements.

Never heard of MGTOW until today. Learned something new. You sure only women naturally have high anxiety? I thought it was hereditary and/or based on life experiences & environment. My male partner is. It runs in his family, and he takes care of the symptoms. Pretty sure I'm less nitpicky towards him than he is towards himself. Doesn't it make sense for people to go their own way if they feel used & abused in a relationship, regardless of gender?

That is a good question, which raises other questions. What if they did? How can we know for sure? Can we help them? What if they do not want help? How much impact do we really have in other peoples' lives? A caterpillar cannot choose when it will become a butterfly. If you believe in Fate as I tend to, the greater transformations in life are often beyond us.

Life is a journey to spiritual awakening, and everyone is on their own path, going at their own pace. You did not waste 3 years of your life. Those 3 years allowed you to realize that this was wrong for you. By finding what made you unhappy, you learned to define what truly made you happy. The power of Now is only available for those who seek it. Keep in mind that awakenings happen in their own time. You cannot force it upon others.

Has anyone seen Dick Cheney's biopic "Vice"? There's a scene where his wife almost left him because he did nothing but come home drunk every night. The beauty industry sets the standard for Women to look a certain way to be acceptable by societal norms. The bar for beauty is artificially raised. Women often receive compliments from both genders when they use beauty & fashion to enhance their looks, so they become invested in these products. It's positive reinforcement and a great business model. Buy this, use that. If you're not on top of the latest looks, you might as well be uncultured, or god forbid: look like a man. I'm glad you're opening up about this because while the consequences are becoming more common, people rarely discuss it in public. SSRIs and birth control decrease libido. There's nothing wrong with valuing your mental and reproductive health over it. I think it helps to be honest with a partner you trust about how medications affect you. Otherwise, they may come to the wrong conclusions.

Women can't even do the one thing they can claim as unique to them without a guy's help lmao That goes without saying. And likewise, you as a man, cannot get pregnant and give birth, as you do not possess a womb. Let's be real. Sure. All sperm comes from a man's testes. Sperm are not life as-we-know-it. They are cells carrying genetic material. Life as an organism begins as a fertilized egg within a woman's body. The sperm enters the unfertilized egg and unites with it to become a Zygote, which then undergoes mitosis to become a human embryo, and eventually a human fetus. That whole process takes place inside the woman's womb. Separately, eggs and sperm are brainless, single-celled organisms.

True. And how lucky! Rational thinking focuses on what we already know, while irrational thinking puts faith in the unknown. Both are needed for innovation. For example, Einstein came up with a theory about the universe that was considered irrational to his predecessors, so he spent a lifetime trying to prove it using rational thinking. It worked.

I meant that as a joke, lol. Of course, someone you love is going to rate you higher than a stranger! My point is, when I get into a relationship, the attractiveness score is no longer important. I am already attracted to them. Why keep score? Although in a relationship, a person's attractiveness can increase or decrease depending on other, more important factors, like their actions.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 11:20 PM

Firstly, the numbers rating system is a joke. My gay college roommate thinks I'm a 6/10. My partner tells me I'm 10/10. On days I don't shower, I swear I'm a 1/10. It's all relative.

On point! The repression of male adornment seems to be a recent phenomenon. Now, why is that? Something to do with the fall of monarchial societies and the industrial revolution? I wouldn't mind bringing back more acceptance of male expressions in beauty. My bf loves walking around with a blanket wrapped tightly around him while pretending to be an earl, hahaha.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/03/22 07:21 PM

Yes totally. When some friends visited S. Korea a few years ago, they were shocked to see billboards advertising plastic surgery with huge before & after photos plastered on them. I feel the phenomenon is related to westernization and the perceived value of looking westernized. In Asia, those with more western facial features appear more cosmopolitan and are often more successful. There's internalized racism going on there that I don't exactly know how to unpack, even though I'm Asian myself.

I can imagine that, if he wasn't living with his parents without any form of transportation, lol. At some point, I realized that monitoring someone's actions takes a lot of energy, and life is too short to spend waiting for someone else to change their behavior. I can choose to stay or I can go.

I chose to point out sexual dimorphism in Nature because it is without artifice. These are innate traits that get passed on through sexual selection. Humans invented the beauty industry. It is a completely artificial construct. You can’t inherit cosmetic alterations. You are lying about having “good genes”. To reiterate my question: Why did women start using cosmetics to alter their mating potential, and since when? Also, historically, why have we stigmatized men for employing the same device?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/03/22 05:44 PM
1

The incentive is for males to stand out so they can compete with other males. That’s why male animals strut their goods and often fight to the death over mating rights. Ever watched two rams butt heads, or two male gorillas maul each other? Why do boys fight so much? Women are choosers. Male suitors greatly outnumber her. She waits for the males to duke it out. The winner takes her body. Some human males consciously restrain from acting out the instinctual pageantry and violence involved with ma…

Also would like to point out that a good portion of celebrity women we see in mass media, especially in porn have had breast implants and sometimes Brazilian butt-lifts. While a few women are born "thicc", you can fake it if your budget allows. Not sure if you are aware.

Hahahaha, are we not also animals living on this planet? What does your argument have to do with color & boldness, which is what I'm pointing out? That is true. But how come human females are compelled to dress things up? In nature, female animals are small and muted in color, so they can stay safer by blending into their environment. That comes in handy when you are brooding.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/03/22 03:36 AM

I'm gonna agree with you here. I think some of us have gone overboard with trying to hide what we were born with. We can also get fillers or surgery so that the changes become permanent. That's where the beauty industry is headed. It makes me a little sad.

Don't forget injectable fillers, botox, plastic surgery, facials, and other body modifications that are popular today. Some are very subtly done so unless you have a keen eye, you would think it was natural. Sometimes, not so subtle. Check out r/botchedsurgeries What's funny to me is that in Nature, Male animals put a lot more effort into appearance, and are naturally more bold & colorful than Females. She said, "Lol, that's okay" which I see as a fairly neutral response. Sounds like you are worried about being judged by her, and maybe you feel embarrassed about something that you enjoy. She hasn't openly judged you yet, and I won't be judging you. You have done nothing harmful to her or to me. Some people will judge you, some won't. Don't let it get to you.

Do you think the "hive mind" mentality is related to the widespread adoption of social media? (e.g. Algorithms that create feeds showing people with similar looks, tastes, hobbies, mental positions, etc.)

In Korea also. I don't know how these couples truly feel, but on the surface, they appear content with their fate. My close friend was married off that way. She does not tell me anything negative about her marriage. To each their own.

Happiness cannot be found in others. It comes from within you. When you are attracted to someone, you see something that you perceive to be missing in you. Perhaps you even see a glimmer of yourself reflected back at you. And you want it. Physical attraction inevitably fades over time, but it can be surpassed by a deep respect for the other person's being-ness. Then, having sex can feel like giving and receiving a beautiful gift.

Never thought about it, but maybe? I'm not a good example though. I went to a small school with a 7:3 F/M ratio. I got asked out by 2 guys there, but they were already sleeping with other girls. I refused because I'm monogamous. After college, I was dumped by a mutual friend in public on Valentine's Day. I became depressed and did not date for years. I really felt like a loser up until I met my current SO.

men who come off "neuteR" are sexless, juiceless, lustless, passive, without "strength or vigor" I honestly haven't met one like that IRL. Maybe because I'm from a slightly older generation. Do you know any celebrities, media personalities, or historical figures who are examples of being "neutered"? If you've met a neutered guy before, what did he look like? In what context did you meet? How did you find out that he was sexless? Curious.

So what you're really alluding to is "low or non-existent sex drive". Neutering on the other hand is a sterilization surgery given to male animals, like young dogs, at a medical facility. Vegetarianism is attractive to a lot of ethically-minded people. A healthy diet is attractive to me. It shows that the person is conscious about what they put in their bodies. For me, their weight comes second to lifestyle habits. Often the two are mutually inclusive.

The shift in relationships did not grant all the power to women or men. It’s actually steadily equalizing both positions. I agree with this. I'm 36 F.

A lot depends on the type of user research you’ll do to determine the scoring system. What’s your sample size? What’s your target demographic? Who will you interview? What interview questions will you ask? You could conduct an online survey using Google Forms and ask a pool of people to rate each criteria. r/samplesize is a good place to look.

Here's my take as a middle-aged woman in a LTR: (Sometimes) men get burned and ghosted by (Some) women for displaying weak emotions (in response to a particular situation). From my personal experience, when I can sense a guy is hurting or showing "weaknesses", I'll ask him what's wrong. If it's my partner, I'd probably give him a hug.

"it's more so compete with other human men" That is definitely still alive and strong, hahaha. I'm imagining men back in the day would find a sabertooth tiger carcass, carve a sharp weapon out of its tusk, and use it as a javelin to impale them. It's interesting to see that the more our tasks get outsourced and automated, the more indirect our threats become.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/22 08:19 PM

What's fascinating is that our primal instincts have survived thousands of years of human advancements. Like we're not worried about getting eaten alive by saber-tooth tigers anymore, but men are still protective of women by the same psychology. As lifestyles evolve and all of our physical threats have shifted, how are men adapting to new things to "protect" women from?

Of course, but in your previous comment you were pointing specifically to the net gain of "Attracting some man to help you". That's not a skill I've acquired. But maybe I should. Are humans objects by essence? If I was a called a slave, am I not in essence still a human being? Is not objectification a labeling process, to which we assign names or roles to one another? All of this is superficial, and your roles may shift as you grow in a relationship. You may play many roles in one lifetime. I’m middle aged now. As a 36 yr old woman, I see the gender typecasting that you write about starting to fall away. When you spend years being intimate with someone, the facades start to come down. You start to realize that we’re all just children inside. Also, having children of your own and experiencing the world through their eyes can pull that inner child right back out of you. Nobody is an object unless they are willing to be.

My dad’s generation was taught that as well. It gets passed down I suppose. Personally I perceive unemotional men as aloof, uncaring, even robotic in extreme examples (thinking abt my dad & FIL). Good acting is all about expressing genuine emotions on camera by completely identifying with a character. It's called typecasting. Historically, the majority of the writing was done by men. I guess what I really mean by manual labor is (Dangerous/ Demeaning) manual labor. My family has a farm and if there was a job opportunity, I'd sign up to be a gardener for them any day. My partner and I weeded, hacked, hauled fertilizer, and dug holes for 6 months last year and it was fun, despite all the fire ant bites. Positive physical labor is life-affirming. Lol at the person who thought you were pedo. That's insane. Spot on, your view is accurate to me (I'm Asian). And yes, I do think some major trends are moving towards the effeminate. In Anime, there's often a fine line that separates how boys & girls look. In K-pop, all the boy bands are just as pretty as their female counterparts. Kids nowadays are also more gender-fluid, so effeminate qualities in men are increasingly seen as the norm. People will change when the rules change.

Yes, in East Asia, more effeminate men are often perceived to be more attractive. Aggression is less of a desirable trait there. Cuteness is highly valued. Even in the wild. For example, some female sea slugs choose more feminine-looking mates. They feel reassured by their physical similarities and their docility. Big, aggressive males just scare them off.

I hope you found your pen! I feel like a lot of folks on this subreddit are horny and male, so it's hard for them to see otherwise. Some may have been deceived by women who claimed they were horny when they weren't really. I'm one of them. I feel guilty, but it's easier to be pleasing than to deny my partner all month long.

Same. I am not horny 26 days out of the month. I pretend to be for my partner because it helps him to feel more loved. I am not horny right now.

Women rate men harshly because, at a primal level, we are judging them for their viability as mates. Those requirements vary from person-to-person, and by culture: Feminine features can convey sensitivity, youthfulness, grace, but also immaturity. Masculine features can convey intensity, drive, bravery, but also aggression. To each their own.

I was in an all-female department at an art school with a ~70% F/M ratio. Some of my classmates became bisexual. As far as I know, they are all with men now. For them, it was a matter of circumstance and a desire to experiment.

I saw the gay penguin couple (Rio and Eduardo) at the San Francisco Zoo. They're great parents too apparently. https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2019/06/20/same-sex-penguin-couple-san-francisco-zoo-model-foster-parents/

Bringing more children into this world eats up more of its resources. Higher population = Higher consumption = More environmental degradation. I believe history is cyclical. Society is in constant ebb & flow. Not too concerned. Also, birth control is great. I no longer have to have 3 abortions like my mom did because my parents weren't ready for a baby, or 8 kids like my grandmother did because she had no choice.

The pandemic sure made it easier to stay indoors and a lot more convenient to order fast food. Even pets are obese. You can always do the opposite: Go outdoors and eat less fast food.

I've watched a lot of nature documentaries. Male creatures tend to force sex upon the females and have little or no investment in childrearing after the female gets pregnant. I have yet to see a female creature force sex upon a male. Biologically speaking, females are pickier about sexual partners because just having sex once can result in pregnancy, which is a huge investment in time, energy, and resources. Wouldn't every female want the best for their new family? I don't think we've evolved to…

Well, it depends on how many women are seeking a mate. If a woman is not looking, she will be seeking out 0% of the men. If she is looking, it depends on whether she wants a short-term or long-term partner. If she wants a long-term partner, she'll go for the 10% because they won't die quickly. It's relative to a woman's needs.

Emotions can increase Empathy, which helps with relating, social bonding, caring for others, and creative endeavors (for women, that includes creating more humans). Crying can help release repressed negativity which is great for mental health. Anger can release pent-up energy which seeks to be let go off. Joy just feels great, and it's infectious so you can spread it to others. I've seen both men and women unconsciously repress their emotions by excessive exercise, harboring resentment, harmin…

The risk of pregnancy, STDs, physical pain, rape, and potential violence is always in the back of women's minds. Look in Nature. Nearly all female creatures are this guarded.

There's no right or wrong, it's just culture. I didn't grow up with that vocabulary so it surprises me when I hear it. I did have gay colleagues address me in that way, and I assumed that was vernacular. Guess I'm wrong.

Though fun to do virtually, in reality, no. It took Billions of years of evolution for the universe to create You, a variation of its manifestation. That's too special to just throw away.

Sorry, still trying to work through that generational trauma. I think it may be cultural too. My parents were immigrants, and where they're from, men dominated women physically, emotionally, and financially. Though imperfect, there is much better gender equality here in the U.S. As a consequence, the standards for men also became a lot higher, sometimes unreasonably. The fact that you said "everyone should do what they can for their family" would bring a tear to my mother's eye.

So, if all women want resources from men, and few men have a lot of resources, as resources are limited on this planet, wouldn't be easier for women to gather the resources on their own? If a woman has built their own wealth, status, and power, what do you think they would look for in a man?

Exceptions: Before my parents divorced, my mom worked 3 minimum wage jobs while my dad refused to work full-time or be outside the home. She gave him all of her income and he didn't budge after she was mugged on the street. He withheld her spending and didn't let her buy a winter coat for her night commute. He didn't do certain things. She called him "less than". I think that's pretty justified. My partner and I both lost our jobs during the pandemic. We're both unemployed, live with parents, an…

Brings a tear to my eye. All I can see in these pictures are genuine-looking souls that I hope will all find somebody to love and be loved. One thing I noticed is that a few of the girl's pictures may have filters applied to them, which I didn't notice on any of the guys.

We're spending more time in front of a screen than ever before, just like we're doing right now. The pandemic also drove a lot of people indoors for long periods of time. Long screen time + Social distancing = Enjoyable social distancing. Maybe some people grew tired of that and are starting to head outdoors,

I have never hooked up in my life. If anyone asked me to hook up, I said no. Anecdotes: I met my now 4-yr partner online, and we didn't sleep over until the 5th date. We're monogamous. My friend told her now-husband that she doesn't do polyamory as indicated on his then dating profile. They are now monogamous. There may be someone out there for you if you're willing to keep trying.

When I was single, I was rarely approached by men because as my now partner puts it: "You looked unapproachable." Looking back, perhaps it was my all-black outfits, lack of smiles, or exuding general anxiety that comes with living alone in a big city. Who knows? Places I did get approached: Parties, classes, public parks, sharing taxis. A simple "Hello" brightens up my day. Catcalling, though, makes me anxious because I don't trust strangers and what they might do to me.
