I usually don't like linking directly to the studies because I find most people are more likely to read an article summary than the study itself because of all the jargon. But if you're curious, here it is: Cikara, M., Eberhardt, J. L., & Fiske, S. T. (2010). From Agents to Objects: Sexist Attitudes and Neural Responses to Sexualized Targets. Link

They're not being neurotic. Research has confirmed that when men are sexually attracted to a woman, they see her as a literal object, a "tool" to be used and manipulated. Those are the regions of the brain that light up in fmri. Princeton study

No, but you're implying "most do". Otherwise what's the point of your post? A minority of women are shitty? Yeah, obviously. Some people are narcissistic. Everyone knows this. If you're going to debate, do so in good faith. Stand by your argument rather than trying to hide behind semantics.

How crazy to genuinely suggest that a starving woman agreeing to be with a man just for his money is equivalent to love. I've personally known women like this (mail order brides for example) and they absolutely do not love these men. There may have some fondness for them, sort of like deep gratitude that they're not starving anymore thanks to these guys, but that's not the same as love. These women do not want or desire these men. They are literally trading their body for money. That's it. That'…

But equal total hours don't automatically mean equal burdens. Like, my husband can take uninterrupted 30 minute long shits at work. He gets a quiet lunch, either alone or with colleagues he enjoys spending time with. His work involves brainstorming ideas, not scrubbing floors. He sits in a comfortable chair all day. A domestic laborer like a stay at home mom doesn't get breaks, she doesn't get to eat or shit in peace. She can't even get a moment to think, let alone brainstorm ideas. For her, it'…

This Harvard article article cites a survey of 127,545 American adults showing married men had better health outcomes than never-married, divorced, or widowed men. This study shows that married men had the lowest age-adjusted death rates of any marital status group (widowed men had the highest death rates). This article states that the presence of a husband increased women's housework by roughly seven hours weekly (compared to single women) while men's housework changed very little. This study s…

She thinks, because they had more things in common that = more compatible. But in reality compatibility is much more complicated and nuanced. Many people are specifically attracted to someone who has opposite but complimentary qualities, for example.

Right, that's not an example of dating down. That's dating out of your league.

But, what can a progressive actually do about that? What you're describing is a cultural problem, largely fueled by patriarchal ideals about masculinity (stoicism as you mentioned). This is not a political issue that progressives can address with legislation. It requires a large-scale cultural rethinking of what it means to be a man, and that means a lot of the work falls on individual men's shoulders ie break the cycle, redefining norms, opening up, building community based on empathy etc.

But the original question was about policy. OP wanted to know why young men are being "left behind by progressives." So my specific question is, what can progressives (or any political group) do for young men? What can actually be done on a legislative level for said young men to feel not left behind by progressives?

Failures of the American economy do not disproportionately affect men. The population is made up of 50% women and 50% men. Economic downturns affect all of us regardless of gender. The issue is listing the specific problems faced by men disproportionately that are not a result of personal choices and can be remedied by policy changes.

I'm actually very curious to hear what these issues are. What problems are unique to men that progressives could address?

Not op, but statistically, a woman marrying a man means a shorter lifespan for her and significantly more housework. Edit: I've reread the studies and it looks like most of them show a net benefit in lifespan for both married genders, just less so for married women than men.

You are operating under the assumption that women are one dimensional. We're not automatons. Just because income, height and looks are desirable qualities DOES NOT mean those are the only or even most important qualities women look for. A tall, attractive, rich asshole is not actually attractive to most women. There will of course be a minority of women with self esteem issues who will go after these kind of guys, but most emotionally healthy women are looking for men who are kind, fun, who shar…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
