I would suggest that he deal with this by behaving like an adult, ie by not coming up with some outlandish escape plan about fleeing to a foreign country. He should have been up front with his girlfriend about not wanting children, rather than being duplicitous about abortion being "for the best", making it clear that he would not want to raise the child. Should she decide to keep it he should be prepared to pay child support.

That isn't what toxic masculinity is. Toxic masculinity describes social attitudes which push men towards acting in ways which harm themselves and others. One example is how often men kill each other in "one punch killings" as it is seen as the "manly" thing to resort to violence to solve problems or to respond to insults. Maybe they had their access to education and professions severely restricted? Many women in 19th century Europe worked outside the home. Considering the poverty and hellish conditions of urban areas in the 19th century I doubt that many women were content to remain in the home and not look for work outside it.

No, the difference is that rape jokes contribute to a culture in which rape and sexual assault are not taken seriously or are dismissed. The joke above doesn't contribute to a culture in which women are encouraged to trap men in paternity, such a culture doesn't really exist anyway. That's not what she was doing though. There are plenty of ways to give feedback to her videos, the comments on youtube would have just been a bunch of hate messages. Being in academia isn't about opening yourself up to abuse. Whether or not the threats were credible doesn't matter, she still received buckets of hate messages.
