Says the person who's using wikipedia as their source of research your first comment is a copy of wikipedia. Female circumcision is religiously forbidden in my country. Unfortunately it became a social norm in most rural and poor parts in my country ( a majority muslim county). So it's still a work in progress to stop FGM. Again there is no base in the Quran on FGM nor are the hadiths about it are strong ( all are weak in authenticity).
