I’ve fucked it up pretty bad over the years, but not to an irredeemable extent. There’s been glimmers over the last two months. I thought BPP’s YouTube stuff was pretty excellent, so I’ll give his book a go after I finish up TSAOFNGAF. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

You’re right. I acutely felt how badly I was failing that shit test as I was doing so, but was too worked up to care. I need to stay the course I’m on and do the work. Thanks for the reminder.

I have this mental image of me yanking my back out when doing the initial rep of a heavy load on the bar. It’s irrational, but causes anxiety nevertheless. I feel like death (in a good way) after jamming out 14 reps. Doing so many is probably not in the spirit of the program I’m following though, as it calls for a load I can complete for 4-5 reps. Have a good lift, man.

Doing reverse pyramid training where I complete each set to near-failure. I began way too light on my deadlifts based on what I was half-assing while doing Stronglifts. I figured that my reps would start going down pretty rapidly as I put more weight on the bar, but I’ve experienced the opposite effect. I could definitely jump up quite a bit, but I’m worried about hurting my back with a sudden increase of weight. I think my form is good enough now to accommodate an increase without injury, so I’…

WISNIFG was a good read, and one I intend to return to. I find myself using some of the techniques more than others, and have occasionally looked back at specific examples when faced with similar situations. I still feel motivated and upbeat more often than negative or frustrated. Reading back over my post, you’re right that there’s some needless negativity in there. I think I’m just trying to get out ahead of others trolling me for my failures, which runs counter to the point of OYS. I’ll keep …

Definitely working through years of resentment toward her, so you’re right on the money there. I’ve been struggling with this for a long time, and it’s harder to ignore now that I’m working on myself and being more mindful of my own wants and needs. I don’t feel like it’s validation-seeking on my part. She offers affection and I accept. The bit on desire is more a general wish for there to be any kind of passion in my life. I don’t feel especially passionate about anything or for anyone right no…

I was depressing in the same way NMMNG was depressing. I agree 100% that I’m better off having that knowledge of the how and why things are as they are. And when I’m further along in the journey to being a high value male, perhaps I will return to TRM and see it differently. For now, it stirred a mixture of revulsion and no small amount of anger with myself and society at-large. I’ve wasted a lot of my life, prime years, thanks to the stuff Rollo covered and my own stupid, misguided beliefs and …

This has been a problem for almost our entire relationship and one of the issues that drove me here, so I’ve had this lecture before and will probably have it again. Right now, she’s my only option when I want to fuck. I feel performance anxiety beforehand and during because popping off before she gets off decreases the likelihood she’ll be willing the next time I want to fuck. When I initiate, I’m definitely in her frame. I mix it up and she likes that. I talk dirty, different positions, throw …

She likes to be slutty and revels in all sorts of demeaning and submissive shit when in the mood. Her go-to LMR is that she won’t get off, so why bother.

Everything you said resonates. Even if I was consciously trying to repress or eliminate the expectation, the very fact that it was date night creates that expectation. And, actively working to not expect something probably gave off a weird vibe. I’ve given some thought to the LMR and animal passion stuff you discussed. I think where this all falls apart for me is I don’t really feel that for my wife very often. In fact, a big problem in our relationship for years was that she wanted sex way more…

I had zero expectations of sex prior to and during date night. The tone and frankly sexual topics of conversation on the drive home prompted that expectation. I was honestly more surprised and confused by her sudden turn once home than I was disappointed not to have sex. That said, there were definitely covert contracts going on during our date night. At the very least, I carried an expectation that she’d be appreciative that put everything together.

That’s the approach I’d taken for the five weeks prior to last, and I felt altogether more productive and engaged. Ideally I would be able to play the occasional computer game, but you’re spot on about the addictive tendencies. Ever since I was a kid I’ve used gaming and food as a means of numbing out when stressed or depressed. I’m going to put a moratorium on gaming for now. During this time, I’m going to seek out more fulfilling and productive activities to engage in. Reading and fixing up sh…

My only piece of advice on lifting is stupidly simple: ask for advice from people who know more than you about lifting. I say this as someone who has just returned to the weight room after a decade of laziness. My back was hurting like a bitch after squatting for two weeks, so I asked for help from folks on this subreddit, from a subreddit for the lifting program I’m using, and from guys at my gym doing a shit-ton of weight. Turns out that most folks who are serious about lifting like to talk ab…

I completely understand what you’re describing. I take a different, but equally autistic approach to responding to my wife recognition of my getting shit done - I shrug and stay quiet so as to make it appear like it’s not a big deal at all. Inwardly, however, I’m saying something along the lines of “Don't need to thank me, I did it because it needed to be done, not for you.” This is me faking it until I make it. I know as I am thinking that that there’s still a twinge of excitement that she’s va…

Tempering my expectations and holding back from trying to do too much too fast have been significant challenges. As I alluded to in my post, I still carry an expectation of being validated for any little bit of positive behavior I display. At this early stage, I’ve focused on simply being mindful of this. When I start engaging in something positive, such as cleaning and organizing the playroom or getting up at 5 am to lift, I try to think of the different reasons I am taking that action. I then …

I tried to focus my goals on habit-forming practices and behaviors while still keeping them SMART: Lifting: Lift at least three times a week. Eating: Hit my calories/macros and 16:8 fast six days a week. Hygiene: Shave every two days and brush teeth/mouthwash before bed every night. Style: Iron my shirts and pants for work and going out. Game: Give wife 10-second kiss every single day. Finances: Set aside money for known one-time expenses (travel, dance) and pay for them in cash. Career: Complet…

You got a blog, man? Because I would read that shit weekly. What you’re suggesting here is basically DC Training, right? The sequence of instructions for breathing and bracing should be pretty helpful. I might the hit the gym tomorrow night simply to try some of the different techniques everyone’s been throwing my way. Thanks for spending so much time sharing what you’ve learned with me here.

That’s probably part of the problem. Looking at the resources u/RPeed and u/CaptJohn have directed me to, its clear I am arching my back and pushing my hips too far forward. Low core strength is likely one of the reasons I am overcompensating in this way to prevent a rounded back. I’m looking forward to applying some corrective measures at the gym this weekend.

I’m mainly focusing on cutting body fat, but my lifts are so low right now that it seems impossible for me not to gain back a decent amount of strength. Good point on trainers in commercial gyms. I’m planning on having him film my form on all the lifts so I can get exactly the type of informed advice you suggested I seek out. Hadn’t considered looking for something body type specific, though. Just finished my morning lift. Adjusted my squat, overhead press, and deadlift closer to where I’m actually pushing myself. Big difference in how I feel post-workout - feels like I went a few rounds with Clubber Lang. My lower back is stiff as fuck from squats, but it seems I’m arching it with my hips too far toward while squatting. It’s definitely more shitty form than 10 year old sports injuries that is fucking my shit up. My legs can push way more than I’m squatting, but I’m making my back do…

I’m being over cautious for fear of injury. Football and shot/disc/hammer was murder on my shoulders, back and knees. Nagging injuries due to shitty squat form was one of the things that derailed my last go at lifting when I was pushing heavier numbers. I have an appointment next week with the trainer at my gym to check and correct my form for all my lifts. Your point about leverages makes sense, but I’m still nervous about fucking up my back and/or knees like I did last time I got above body we…

I suspect you’re right. Thinking back on the times I can remember her getting off, it was always make up sex after a big fight or the culmination of a day or more of build up. Makes sense. We just hit that transitional period where everything is a chilly marsh, but the roads are clear, so there’s no reason we couldn’t walk the dog or ride bikes now. They used to play with their toys all the time, but only do so sporadically now. My 5-year-old would definitely play toys with me if I got off my ass and did so. 11-year-old might be a tougher sell, though I talked to her this morning about checking out the local yoga class on Sunday. You’re right that I am taking that line too literally. I was attracted to the idea that this was her problem and not mine, so thanks for snapping me out of that shit. I do enjoy pleasuring her, but it definitely causes anxiety. It’s not so much me seeking validation for being such a giving lover and more me not wanting to fail to get her off and have to deal with her acting shitty afterwards.
