Did you look at the article? If the mother wants the baby breastfed the kid needs to be breastfed everyday to get fed. She does not believe, rightly so, that formula is gonna be able to give him what he gets from breast milk. From what I read in the article they were not a couple, it was their first time together. It can be difficult, people don't always have complete presence of mind and body.
