I make 90% of my money from tips, and I have a day job that is supplemented by serving at night. In America, tipping 20% is the standard, then if you receive exceptional service you give more. You seem like you're real fun to go out to dinner with, if you think that all servers are below you.

You must not live in the US. Servers are paid $5.03 an hour here. That being said I make double what an elementary school teacher does, usually around $40/hour when you do the math after tips. Yea I'll keep my fake job...

I just got back, and didn't see this until I did. That is exactly the approach I took! Thanks for that, I won't be doing any excursions, but from what I hear, the bars on the island are the place to be. I like the "do you want to get out of here", with the ship being so expansive and filled with things to do, I'm sure I can find a quiet corner we can sneak off to. Also, it's royal Caribbean, which I've never experienced, so I'm excited. I'll make sure to write a detailed field report when I get back
