At the end of the novel 1984, the main character is reflecting on how he has come to love "Big Brother"; the government party whom he hated and sought freedom and rebellion from. The way Orwell writes about the protagonist's process of mental gymnastics to settle and embrace his reality in the book has been described as soul-crushing. 2	I think I just met a HVM. I agree with the other comments about not having known him long enough to determine HVM status. But additionally, have you considered the dynamic with the police you describe may have contributed to you over idealizing him in a protective role? It sounds scary and stressful and sounds like he did the right thing, but just make sure you're not giving him additional attributes which he hasn't proved to you without the context of trauma bonding. 1	In need of help/advice in dealing with a NVM I disagree slightly. That was probably the initial reason she continued, but now with the dynamic of the child, part of maternal instinct wants to provide security of father/familial structure and LVM probably manipulates her with that. Honestly it just sounds like an emotionally abusive situation at this point. The fact that she doesn't think she can have the bathroom door closed "without an inquisition" speaks volumes to me here. 1	In need of help/advice in dealing with a NVM Omg lady I feel for you so bad! I went through something similar, at the time our kiddo was 1.5 now she is 4.5. Somehow I let this LVM convince me after our breakup to let him stay in my house that I owned 100% while he was barely contributing to childcare, and straight up not contributing to bills or cleaning.
