[may seem a bit lame, but:] Individuals need to hone their skills. Practice debate (like, role-play with other MHRAs). Know the difference between a direct counter-argument and a reductio ad absurdum. Know a feminist's arguments better than they do so that, when they bring up the inevitable, they've already walked into your trap. An elite strike team can take out 10x or 50x untrained mercenaries. Untrained enthusiasm gives you pile-ons, screeching, Trigglypuff, and AntiFa. Skilled/disciplined en…

(Mr Archivist here) I don't think anyone would complain about having more resources out there! I can’t really answer question #2, but here’s my take on #1: I think that the key to a site being used (in my limited experience) is for it to offer something unique or, if not unique, something targeted. You want to be the signal, not the noise. For instance: Boys and Men in Education has very targeted content (a lawsuit database RE: college sexual assault cases; general education research) and a rela…

I read this article with hope (I know... I'm an optimist who never learns his goddamn lesson). But the article really boils down to this: tl;dr - men commit suicide at epidemic levels, and it's noone's fault but their own. One wonders if Leah Eichler's next articles will be headlined "Black men disproportionately killed by police: their own damn fault" or "Gender earnings gap still exists, and you're to blame, ladies" or "Gays face discrimination in many parts of the country/world... sucks to be…

My affection for Paglia varies day-to-day, but she was on-form in this interview (she tends to do better in writing than speaking IMO). My favorite bit, clearly spoken by a philosopher and a youth of the 60s: Each generation must create its own reality and find its own identity. If today’s young women want to be passive wards of the state, then that is their self-stultifying choice. One cannot impose a dynamic, expansive, metaphysical vision of existence on timid minds who crave the miniature, l…

As Rachael Lefler recently put it: Maybe when we see an equal number of 18 year-old girls as 18 year-old boys getting their limbs blown off and coming home with the real kind of PTSD, we’ll not treat our armed forces so disrespectfully by plunging them into pointless wars that only serve the people who manufacture bullets. Maybe if more of our soldiers dying are female, people will start to actually fucking care about them.

The woman, simply because the man probably has the following traits in greater proportion (to whatever degree) to the woman: greater strength, speed, and physical endurance a stronger fight or flight reaction (less fear) a belief that he is responsible for his own life - that no one will save him but himself (e.g. - confidence that 99% of people would choose to rescue the woman. a bit recursive, I know) If I went for the woman, there is a greater likelihood that both will come out alive than if …

I feel you. Just remember: every social revolution needs both a Malcolm and a Martin, a Jinnah and a Gandhi. People need to be enraged and organized (because docile people tend not to expend the effort to enact change), so I value Elam's role in that. There also need to be figures which elicit empathy/relatability from outside groups (whose support is inherently necessary to enact change in a democratic society). So don't begrudge Paul his Malcolm-ness. You can still be a Martin. I bet they didn…

Don't feel unwelcome here because you hold those views. Many people here (myself included) identify as 'liberal,' which typically encompasses support of women's issues (such as access to safe and ethical abortions). We just also advocate for a male-equivalent right in the same situation. Things like these aren't mutually exclusive. Now, that's not to say that you might not get people of different ideological bents disagreeing with you on the merits of the issue. But (even ignoring the above) ple…

I would still like the OP to know that she's welcome here and even if we disagree with her on anything, she's not going to be banned or censored simply for having an opinion. Seconded. I say if you feel the need to weep over something, weep. It is actually a huge psychological and even physiological need to expel your negative emotions and work through things so you can let them go and live. By the same token, I say if you don't feel the need to weep over something, don't weep. There's nothing wrong with that either. Fixed it for you :) Thanks for the post. Sorry dude, but "on-camera journalist personality" is an acting gig. Not discrimination. If a movie script calls for a part to be played by a black man, the casting director is not racist for choosing a black man (nor, likely, is the script writer).

In addition the the things everyone's pointed out about this article, there's a massive problem with the issue of correlation vs. causation. Q: Did you see any long-term impacts for these women? A: Heterosexual women who had performed this girl-on-girl behaviour had less healthy perceptions of their sexuality. They felt more discouraged or unhappy about their sex lives. They weren’t as direct or assertive about expressing their sexual needs, they felt less confident. They were more likely to say…

Just like pretty much every commentor here: Yes, I'm for it. More power to them. In fact, if one believes that gynocentrism is a core tenant of our culture, then there's a strong argument that same-sex marriages might be inherently stronger (more egalitarian) than opposite-sex marriages.

I mostly agree with you. However, I'm wary of the approach:"if you were wrong about SJWing in the past but then see the error in your ways and try to highlight those errors to others... well fuck you." If that's the approach, then nearly all MRAs (or future MRAs or, hell, even future social egalitarians) are preemptively shunned. That's a dangerous path to start going down. (Note: I know my characterization of your premise is an exaggeration. I did so to more clearly illustrate a point, not beca…

So many interesting connections between all kinds of demographics and insights that it's hard to retain any one! For purposes of this sub, here are some takeaways re: gender differences. These aren't necessarily news to everyone, but it's always nice to have citations: Women have more empathy and higher altruistic values; men have more altruistic love (i.e. - sacrifice/selflessness) (pp. 13-14) "Among men altruistic love did not vary by labor-force status, but among women those in the labor forc…

Even funnier - she did the same thing later in the article (only the in the opposite direction). a 2010 study of students at one Northeastern University, which found that 6.8 percent of allegations were false. Find the study (after several layers of clicking) and, right there in the Abstract (and twice on Page 1330): Of the 136 cases of sexual assault reported over the 10-year period, 8 (5.9%) are coded as false allegations. It would annoy me not necessarily because of the one-sidedness, but for an entirely different reason, which is best communicated through illustrations: If you're doing the dishes and someone walks into the kitchen and says "you really should clean up in here," it's a bit annoying. What do you think I was already doing? A stranger comes up to you with a serious look on their face, puts a hand on your shoulder, and says solemnly "You know, you really shouldn't beat your wife." Here's the thing: in debating statistics like this (is it 7%? 10? 40%? argument about methodology ensues), we're letting feminists move the goalposts. Debates can't be won with two people playing on different fields - you have to beat someone on their own terms, using their own rules. You want to shut up a feminist who goes "See? 8% - false allegations are not that common." Don't debate the accuracy of the study. Simply say, "So, if I understand you correctly, if a bad thing occurs less than, sa…

An even better idea, Banzhaf says, would be to create a totally independent consortium of professionals to both investigate and judge cases If only someone had drafted a kind of foundational document back at our nation's birth. One that created different organizations whose roles were to investigate and judge that which is unlawful, maybe even enumerated the powers of those organizations. Then we'd already have a system in place that was independent of these poor universities and their legitimat…

Speaking as a philosophy major, where one gets ones ethical system is one hell of a massive, complex question. It gets into nature vs. nurture, ethical schools, cultural relativism & confirmation bias, epistemology, and the nature of (or existance of the ability to be) internally consistent. Messy stuff (especially for Reddit). But definitely an interesting conversation starter.

Bingo. I clicked in to add this very comment. Men don't speak up not because it's "not manly" to admit adversity but because it quickly devolves into an Olympics of Suffering. And, when that happens, in-group bias (for women, lack thereof for men) and gynocentric worldview kicks in. Men know from a young age that it's not worth wasting the effort. If there is something inherent in male psychology that offers a lot of resistance to discussion of male issues, what is the way around this, and what …

Great points! This is something that the programmer feels strongly about. He's developing a bot to auto-cache sources. For a split second, I was surprised by this. Then I realized that men and boys have been seeing their fathers and uncles sweat blood like this for years and, in recent decades, are starting to see first-hand how little appreciation the modern world has for that kind of sacrifice. Whereas women didn't have the nearly-infinite "role models" that men did; this retarded their tendency to project themselves into the same future lifestyle and see it for what it really is. Not to mention a handful of page-long eloquent tearings apart of typical 'feminist jurisprudence' justification for legal discrimination. Personally, one of the top 3 things that irks me about Western feminism how the movement appropriates other peoples' legitimate struggles. That's what intersectionality theory is; women don't legitimately have it bad, so they lump themselves together with classes of people who face real discrimination (e.g. - LGBTs, blacks, 3rd world women, etc.). It's like the rich-but-uncool kid who tries to be cool-by-association with the cool kids (a weird analogy, I know, but give me a second). The only rea…

Newly-minted MRA. Could not give a single shit about this movie, politically-speaking. I'll probably see it; Patton Oswalt gave it rave reviews, and I'm a fan of his. But I don't expect it to be anything more than what it is - an action movie featuring a female badass. Nothing new, nothing revolutionary, just adrenaline. Organized boycotts and calls for banning intellectual works that disagree with ones ideology is firmly not in the MRA tradition that I've experienced so far. Reminds me of a cou…

I only just realized that this women also banned white women from the meeting: If you’ve been invited and you’re a man and/or white PLEASE DON’T COME [emphasis mine] The "and/or" makes her statement include white women. Just tickles me as funny; either she's even more bigoted than people are claiming, or she doesn't have a solid grasp of mid-level grammar.

That's a fair point. But here's my thinking on the only two options of what was written: It was a throwaway comment, a reductio ad absurdum (as you say). Then the author/editor is being intellectually dishonest by including it in the article. Especially as the final point in an article (which is structurally designed to carry the most weight in a given piece of writing). Moreover, there was absolutely zero mention of what, say, women might theoretically change (even in an equally flippant, reduc…

That's right - and it's up to us to change what attracts us. HAES shames us for not being attracted to people who are overweight ("passive fat shaming," dontcha know). Tumblr feminists shame us for looking at an attractive woman on the subway ("eye rape from male gaze," you see). We're even getting shamed for what type of porn we like for Christ's sake!

He said curbing the bitchiness is one area in which men can be a help, rather than simply the object of the competition. “The only way it might change is if men stopped valuing sexual fidelity and physical attractiveness in long-term mates,” he said. Oh my god! Must every cultural problem that women face have to be placed at the foot of men? Jeezus!!!

What tickles me is how oblivious the author of this article is. She somehow construes this as more proof of a patriarchy. This isn't about creating a safe working environment for female Hill staffers, as sexual harassment laws intend. Rather... this policy is intended to protect male bosses from damage to their reputations if people thought they were sleeping with their staffers. Ummm... Amanda... you realize that those are two sides to the same coin, right? You can't have your cake and eat it t…

While reading an article, I was struck by this line: "Today feminists control the traffic lights and the road rules, men are only chauffeurs, even when they appear to be in the driver’s seat." So I decided to make something that truly encapsulates the ridiculousness of Patriarchy using that imagery. Enjoy! So far, yes. But that's probably because so few people know about/use it. I've only had to revert to a previous version once, and that was less "defacement" and more "someone didn't know how to use copy-paste to a destructive degree." But so far, so good :)

I actually considered it. But then I realized that that deserves its own database. I want one place to find cold, hard facts to debunk rhetoric and defuse misinformation (rather than just spitting vitriol. after all... http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/3855-nothing-gives-one-person-so-much-advantage-over-another-as). And, top it off with a firehose of references! For most of the excellent counterpoints listed in this comment, pick 3-5 academic studies (start here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1g7cQG62F_TRwSElB9GnKVmjRi4VpHbQSQVnvZAMoDYg/edit?usp=sharing) to add gravitas. You're missing your own point. Let's assume that you're right: that a group that talks about equality more than 3x the next closest Feminist reddit doesn't necessarily care more about equality than that feminist group. This relies on the principle that what one group says about itself is not necessarily indicative about what it really is or what its goals necessarily are. Is that a fair representation of your argument? If that is so, then you have no basis for your other assertion that "feminism…

I think it's related to the aphorism "you may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you." I agree that, if things were a blank slate, we should work together. But things aren't a blank slate - the Personal has become so Politicized (for various reasons) that every issue comes pre-fractured. Every issue has decades, centuries, or millennia of baggage attached to it. We didn't start the fire - we were born to it and have only recently joined the fight. (Switching my metaphors), in ord…

Another fair point. I feel like this is a core (perhaps inescapable) problem of nearly all statistics/statistical analysis - you can get numbers, but what do they ultimately mean? In what ways was the data gathering biased (another inevitability)? And so on. It's true that one can only trust broad numbers as far as one can throw them. Still, having something, anything that's concrete and (at least attempts to be) objective is probably better than the alternative. As you say, it's up to the indiv…

That's a fair point. Would you say that Masters, PhDs, JDs, etc fall into the category "of a degree with an objective measure of quality/value?" Because women outnumber men with those too. Also, I think the article is focusing on more physical bodies at the schools and less on degrees. It's a pretty fine distinction, to be sure, but it seems to be pertinent to the spirit of your point.

This. Also, his rant wasn't that men are inferior to women - it was that men are aggressive, violent, insecure about the size of their dicks, and are largely responsible for the destruction of the planet. As objective statements of fact, I only have a problem with the degree (which, as jcruyff14 pointed out, is part of his on-stage persona), not the spirit. Men are the more aggressive and violent sex (with good reason) and, historically having more institutional power (not necessarily more real …

Men responded to the (inevitable) assertions that Eliot Rodger somehow embodied all masculinity by creating #NotAllMen to point that this guy doesn't represent what all men are like. Then SJWs quickly stomped that out with #YesAllWomen, listing "microaggressions" that "all" women have experienced, effectively changing the conversation from a men's issue to a women's (shocking, I know).

Agreed. And, when a movement is (relatively) small and in the right, all press eventually becomes good press. EDIT: Moreover, if we're not able to laugh at ourselves, we become just like any other extremist group. The ability to be ironically self-aware of foibles and failings is one of the few defenses against radicalism. Let's not become the thing that we're fighting against.
