I get it. I really do, and I did from the start. I think it's just ridiculous how he made his points, and his personal interpretations and arguments were what I had a problem with, not the overarching stance itself. This would have been clear from the onset if he used a far more relevant example. Just because his stance has merit doesn't mean his arguments for it does. I will say in general I agree with your sentiment. I think putting every issue on a scale or spectrum allows people to realize that disagreements usually come about because people draw their lines at different points. But it is very clear to me, at least, that this was not the intent of the dude stating the example. To him the example WAS his argument, it wasn't used to show or create nuance. If a baby comes and punches me, I will not kick it in the face because it's a fucking baby. If a grown-up that I knew to have some mental deficiency did the same I would also not punch back. Proportional response in a thing, sure. If someone punched me I wouldn't think it right for me to stab them.
