I misunderstood what you meant then, it seemed like you were equating non-STEM with stupid. But I don't think everyone going into a degree with a low ROI is definitely making a bad choice. The world would be a crappy place if we did not have smart and talented social workers, museum researchers, teachers, journalists, or mental health counselors. I'm a man pursuing a STEM degree, and people really should cool it with calling everything nonstem a "stupid choice". The world needs people of all backgrounds. There's a high likelihood that someday you'll need a lawyer, social worker, or teacher to do something that you can't.

No, it says 100 years ago, the proper use of "gender" was purely grammatical, but in the early 20th century people started "incorrectly" using it to mean masculine and feminine, which stuck. The whole idea of masculinity versus femininity is the basis of the argument that gender is a social construct, because there is no solid/scientific/biological definition for what masculinity/femininity should be. So it wasn't just "social science dipshits" coming out of nowhere

I feel like we agree, though. Over time, different cultures developed traditions involving how they think masculinity should be and how femininity should be. The traditions are very different across regions/cultures/time-periods. So they are not independent/inherit, they are traditions that we develop, and they are constructed by society. Does that make sense? I feel like we're practically on the same page. I just hate that gender being a social construct gets lumped in with "special snowflakes"…

You're right that it is constructed. However, the construction isn't entirely based in anything concrete. It's something that different cultures develop on their own, hence socially constructed

As in, different cultures have different definitions for what a man should be like and what a woman should be like. So that is socially constructed. Biological sex is not socially constructed.

Those genders are socially constructed though. A lot of the social differences we draw between men and women are arbitrary. Off the top of my head, take the color pink. It's been used in present times as a feminine color, but it used to be used in a more masculine way, and it varies depending on the culture.
