My wife had an emotional affair for years while neglecting our marriage. We’ve had many arguments where I begged and pleaded with her to invest emotionally or anything in us. Yet every time we talk about our divorce, she likes to tell me I’m mostly at fault. Not her spending us into bankruptcy, not her alcoholism, and especially not her infidelity. She likes to remind me that her actions especially the emotional infidelity doesn’t have any bearing on our marriage. I get it. I’m there too.

I know. But I have nowhere else to vent and lost in commiserating was acknowledging your sarcasm. She’s been told she’s stupid. She has been told that the complaints that she has about me will be the same than any relationship. That she’s throwing away a 9 in search of a 10. Except by her mother. Her mother is a malignant narcissist with Munchhausen syndrome and any opportunity to get any form of attention on herself, and especially pity she will take. It is whatever though. I appreciate it the …

I was told several times about how she talked to all her girlfriends and I was the worst husband out of any of them. How I never did anything. Who did the school and doctor or anybody call even though she was a stay at home mom? Me. But I don’t carry my weight. I should make 100% of the income and still do the exact equal amount of housework and childcare that she does because it’s UNFAIR how I’m at my job all day while she chose to be in school online part time all day and take care of a child …

My wife feels entitled which makes her very selfish and very lazy. Her main complaint about me is that when stressed out I would internalize and get easily distracted by my phone or something else. My complaints about her where the fact that anytime I asked for help to work late help with the kids help her around the house help a special projects help budgeting help putting them to bed after a long day… she’d refuse. She was plenty capable of helping, but there more dopamine laying on the couch …

Most of us go through life without an archenemy. I’ve always wondered what my life would be like if there was a true foil in my story. My ex isn’t my archenemy because I’m better than her. If I was to take the kids gloves off by not showing her mercy or compassion then I’d trounce her. I hope you stand victorious one day.

Right there with you brother. Wouldn’t give up my daughters for anything. And I’d take all the abuse and bullshit she threw at me.

If I could go back in my life and remake any choice, it would fundamentally change my journey in life. I am not the reason my marriage failed and if I am, I can solemnly say I tried my best when I was able to. I regret a lot of things. I should have stood up to her more. I should have followed my conscience more. I should have not let her run me down so much. But go back and change getting married or having our 2 children? No. I have had to learn and grow through my many failures and it has been…

Keep it simple and clear. She won’t be the first person in history served with divorce papers. Happens to 50% of marriages. “Hey I officially filed the divorce paperwork and because it’s a legal document for a legal proceeding the sheriff has to come and legally serve you. They should be out within the next week.” You can add “hide your weed” or whatever else is appropriate for the heads up. Or not depending on how things ended.

I set myself on fire to keep my partner warm. I sacrificed my career, my business, my friendships, and self esteem. She was never at fault because everything she wasn’t doing was because of her PTSD, anxiety, depression, postpartum depression. Why did she tell me she wants to leave? Because she’s unhappy. Because sometimes when she wanted my attention I could be distracted by my phone (I owned a business and was on call all the time and still did 50% of all the housework and a huge chunk of pare…

Don’t let her ruin you. Don’t let anyone ruin you. Be confident in who you are and what you stand for. Many of us are here because we were tricked in the same ways. But if you lose yourself after the relationship it’s just one more way she wins. Remaining you is the eternal victory you can have. You can have sacrificed everything for her wants and she could have cut off so much of the rest. Don’t let her take what makes you, you.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
