I assumed my loan a few years ago and it was a simple process. I can't remember the exact amount but with using a title service it was under $1,500. Like everyone else said, you have to qualify on your own and fill out the paperwork. It ended up taking a couple months after I had the decree and the divorce was settled. Saved a ton on closing costs and I got the keep the low interest rate. Go for it if you can.

Give lawyer divorce mediation a try if you think you can be civil. Move out and make a appointment with a lawyer. I did mediation with my ex and we split the $2,500 cost of the lawyer and it was all figured out after 2 meetings. Know what you want out of it and treat it like it's a business. We sat with the mediator and he pretty much did what a judge would of done. We talked through everything and had to give and take on some things, but it was the way to go for me. I could of written this 10 months ago. Stay strong and figure out what you want out of it. I knew I didn't want to be in that situation anymore and got out. I knew I wanted the house and made that my mission. Got her out of it and put my energy toward refinancing and pushing the divorce to be signed as quickly as I could.
