It is a dangerous mindset indeed but it's been hardwired since my late teens and repeats itself at the moment. Answering to your comment, where I study, not many, but at home I indeed have had "natural" oportunities (not many though!) But I'm really shy (but not at the same time its weird) and tend to stutter and freeze and it gets really bad.
