This was pretty informative, and while relying on unnecessarily gendered language, should be information that gets spread around. Men are victims of abuse far more than reported, and the abuse that men suffer is often this type of insidious emotional control. The new gel contains two synthetic hormones, progestin and testosterone. Progestin blocks the testes from making enough testosterone to produce normal levels of sperm. The replacement testosterone is needed to counteract the hormone imbalances the progestin causes but won't make the body produce sperm. Looks like they covered that. There is definitely an earnings gap; if you look at the entire population of men, and the entire population of women, there is a significant disparity in income between them. Oh, it was definitely an interesting article, if you don't want to start a conversation then I'm going to question it's relevance for this sub though. I don't think that a new translation, regardless of how important vox seems to think their gender is, detracts from the work as a whole, or affects the overall issues facing men in today's society.

But women have agency and responsibility for their actions, children don't. If you're trying to imply that women have the same level of responsibility over their actions then I don't know what to do, because that is a pretty toxic mindset. Children are treated that way in society because they don't have any rights, so they rely on society to protect them from themselves, women are legal adults, the same as men, and there is no reason they cannot be held to the same standard.

Then why is a man defending himself from an abusive woman treated the same as if he were abusing her himself? We aren't seeing a crowd of people ignoring or laughing at a man being abused because he can defend himself. They are letting the abuse happen because he is expected to 'take it like a man'.

So picking and choosing equality when it suits is better? If we want to live in a society that is egalitarian (I do) then that needs to mean that people are treated equally, and if people continue treating women with kidde gloves then we haven't achieved that.

Honestly, like most things, I'm pretty sure it's a combination of both. Four years old is definitely old enough that past experience will already shape their personality, so I'd say you should prepare yourself for someone who already needs encouragement to express what they are feeling. My son is about that age, and my wife and I do struggle with encouraging him to be open with us in a healthy way.

Wow, that just started some really helpful retrospection for me; honestly, I'd say the biggest thing that I would have changed is to have more understanding of mental health problems. Suicide disproportionately kills men and there is a very real stigma against getting professional help for mental health, so do your best to have a positive attitude toward seeking help when it is needed.
