I never said their problems were on equal footing. I never even mentioned the tall person's problems. Obviously being short is a disadvantage in dating, and being tall is an advantage all things being equal. I'm merely claiming that their perceptions of one another's experiences are likely equally inaccurate. Their internal narratives are probably equally distorted. Since you mention it, I would say the same thing applies to rich vs poor. Obviously a poor person typically has more struggles than…

Your title is correct (in terms of firsthand knowledge), but the body of your post isn't. Taking height as an example... A tall person does not know firsthand what it's like to be short. That's correct. But it's equally correct that a short person does not know firsthand what it's like to be tall. A tall person might underestimate the effects of being short, but a short person might equally overestimate the benefits of being tall. The tall person might construct a biased narrative where height p…

I'm sure many women vote left simply because the right is bigoted toward women. That's a vote motivated by self interest. Other groups don't necessarily factor into the decision at all. It's hard to draw any conclusions simply from voting patterns.

You have an extremely idealized view of the motivations behind parenthood. Parents are needed for society to persist in the raw numbers sense, but good parents are what's needed for a good society to exist. There are many bad parents out there who would have been better off never having children. I suppose their kids will keep society going in the technical sense, while often leading miserable lives. That alone doesn't make their parents virtuous or socially conscious.

So you think essential workers had better mental health during the pandemic than white collar workers and students stuck at home? There were many different factors negatively impacting mental health during the pandemic. You're clueless if you think the lock down was the sole issue.

That statistic is complicated by mental health issues stemming from the pandemic itself (i.e. the virus spreading exponentially and killing people). Lock down or not, I suspect a pandemic will always cause mental health to take a nose dive. I'm sure the lock down exacerbated issues for certain people, but it probably reduced issues in others. It's hard to draw definite conclusions.

He's propagating a definition of "success" that's deeply toxic. Success in life should not be measured by your bank account or number of sexual partners. Society does play a role in his popularity by overvaluing these things, and that is where the focus and change should be. Andrew Tate can be safely ignored, because he's not successful by any measure that matters.

And thus you end up filtering back in the gender roles, as men adapt to the existing circumstances Even ignoring the dubious claims about sex drive, your logic only makes sense if you think men don't care about the quality of their relationships. Your goal should be maximizing your odds of finding a compatible partner, not maximizing your odds of finding any partner at all. If you're an egalitarian who abandons all your principles when dating, then you'll end up trapped in a relationship that do…

Every story on Reddit is one sided, and many are completely fake. I don't think either situation is always grounds for divorce. They both reflect insecurity in the other partner, which may or may not be justified depending on the context. Ideally, you work through such issues rather than jumping straight to divorce. People just want to confirm their biases, so they never apply nuance to these situations.

Yes, it's obviously sexist language, because it reinforces the societal expectation that men uniquely should never be vulnerable, display weakness, or require help from others. It's often used to effectively say "stop acting like a woman," implying that women are weak and lack self sufficiency--unlike "real men". You should just say "act your age" and avoid reinforcing toxic gender norms.

Consider 3 selves: The person you are now, flaws and all The person you would be if you reached your potential while staying true to yourself The person you would be if you molded yourself to best meet society's expectations Your mistake is correctly noting that (1) might not be enough and concluding that you need to become (3). It's true that (3) might give you the most options for partners, but they won't be particularly compatible options. Is the goal just to be desired by as many people as p…

That has nothing to do with what’s harder. You can’t go to college without finishing high school. Does that mean high school is harder?

The military is completely unnatural. It's an extremely brutal institution that systematically traumatizes its members and rebuilds their psyches for its own benefit, turning people into killers. It runs contrary to human nature.

If you want to be in a relationship that inevitably ends on bad terms and where you can never be your authentic self, then sure, take that advice. The hard part of a relationship is sustaining it, not starting it. And this type of manipulative behavior is a great way to sabotage yourself from the start.

Disagree - The "backlash" tells you nothing about men, because it's a fringe movement amplified in certain corners of the internet. The vast majority of men don't feel this way. Are you actually encountering this sentiment from adults regularly in real life?

IMO most social divisions are the result of scapegoating that stems from economic insecurity and perception of life as a zero sum game. The solution is policy that shrinks the wealth gap and expands the social safety net.

People advocate for race-based reparations because race is inherited, so racism leads to generational inequality. Gender is not inherited, so talking about reparations in that context makes no sense.
