"I asked someone to cite their sources and they provided them. Unfortunately I apparently don't know how to read abstracts or use the ctrl+f function to find the percentages they presented to me." You don't seem to understand, I would have to comb through the entire study looking for flaws in its methodology, not skip to the abstracts or data. Which I'm not doing. Sorry. see how long it takes in the peer-review process for scientific minds to tear you a new one for making up a definition of rape…

"Reading is so hard. I know your sources will support your side and not mine, so it's better for me to ignore them." "I take internet arguments way too seriously. I cite hundreds of pages of data and expect people to read through them all in order to support their arguments." Well, that explains why your view isn't consistent with facts. If the studies these "facts" are from aren't consistent with "my" definition of rape then they aren't really valid facts now, aren't they? Yes, they aren't. You…

you even ignore the other national studies supporting her results! Looking through four different studies to confirm my suspicions isn't worth an internet argument. I already tried to look through one and found the sample size to be questionable. Again, how convenient for you. The truth is convenient for me. Nope. Uhh... yes? Can you point me to any place where the statute says that rape is only rape if it causes irreparable trauma? Once again, I'm not arguing legal precedents, I'm arguing moral…

If Koss’ question 8 created a significant “false yes” problem [as Sommers claims], then many fewer students would have answered “yes” to Schwartz and Leggett’s rewritten version. So what actually happened? Rewriting the question made no difference at all. 17% percent of students surveyed by Schwartz and Leggett were found to have been raped, a number basically identical to Koss’ 15%." I can't find the original study, but I did find the sample size was a paltry 388. I'll check this off as "unknow…

Although, since you mentioned it, other researchers replicated Koss' study rewording that contentious question (question 8), and found almost identical results (higher, actually) Oh really? Cite em. Also, is Sommers seriously suggesting that having sex you don't want when someone physically forces you to isn't rape That's not what the question asked. It said "when you didn't want to", meaning someone in a consensual BDSM relationship could've had sex when they didn't want to and was still counte…

yes the women were "spared" Correct, and the article explicitly stated they we're let go. Considering the anti-male bias in third-world war reporting, there could have been plenty of other cases where women were spared that weren't reported. Everyone wants to talk about how women are uniquely affected by war, but never men. They definitely rape and kill the women as well. And that includes you, it seems. This isn't about women, we're discussing men right now. Go to a feminist forum if you want t…

The average sentence for a man killing his wife in a fit of temper = 18 mths for manslaughter. The average sentence for a woman doing the same = 11 years for murder. I don't have a source for this off hand but I believe the reason for this (although those figures still sound way exaggerated) is because wives killing their husbands usually aren't in a fit of temper, they're premeditated murders, which carries a stronger sentence.

I've seen those in poster form as well. Perfect example of feminists exploiting traditional male gender roles to advance women's rights. They claim to be breaking down gender roles, but all they're doing instead is exacerbating female gender roles at the expense of men. Feminism and "patriarchy" = two sides of the same coin.

Not examining your beliefs and just doing what you want without thinking about other people is generally a bad thing, and the more you do it, the worse you are behaving. it is okay to not critically examine your own beliefs and behaviors What no I have no clue where you got that. What I'm saying, if it makes sense this time, is that people on average tend not to critically examine their own beliefs, so expecting everyone to do so is holding them to an unreasonably high standard. It doesn't matter if they are doing it consciously. We all have a certain duty to analyze our own behavior to be sure we aren't acting unethically. That sounds great in theory, but in practice people will for the most part remain ignorant of their behavior until proven differently. Also, if you ignore and try to silence people who draw attention to the fact you are acting entitled then the ignorance is willful and so in no way excuses or mitigates anything. Agreed. Putting others before yourself is a trait of ethical people, putting yourself before others is a trait of entitled cunts. As I said, they're not consciously doing it. There is a huge difference between a man identifying as feminist and a woman doing so. A woman doing so is campaigning for special treatment for herself, a man is helping other people (in his mind, anyway). Not relevant here. Both genders of feminists believe they are advancing women's rights by being a feminist. That is their conscious motive. Also, I have found that most women, even those that don't identify as feminist still support a lot of the anti-male ideas of feminism. Like what?

Research shows being raised in a single parent household is detrimental to a child's wellbeing. She would be a bad parent just by not having a positive male role model active in the child's life. Not saying all sluts are like that, just replying to your comment specifically.

Feminists haven't actually reclaimed the word "slut", nobody really takes slut walks or similar activism seriously. It's an excuse for them to dress slutty and parade around for self-gratification, but at the end of the day none of them actually proudly act slutty as part of their personality, which is what is going to change society's perception of the word. Society today still views the slut label as negative. This is why I have doubts about OP's idea, I don't think many men are willing to mak…

Sigh. No, I wouldn't. Please stop making crude assumptions about my behaviour based on your own. Are you not a native English speaker? Fine, but then I don't quite get what you wanted to convey with all this. Pointing out that some quotes are falsely attributed or misquoted is perfectly okay. You don't seem to be understanding my position very well, and making a lot of erroneous assumptions it (like me "demanding a special case for men"), so I'll just skip straight to the core point: the context of the joke is what's important. It depends if it's being made simply as a joke for people to laugh at, or as part of a political agenda (in this case, a misandric feminist agenda). The first two quotes (Sharon Stone and Jilly Cooper) are the former, which is why I excused them. They were jus…

You are viewing commentary where there is none. The whole purpose of this article is to present the quotes without a slant and let the reader decide whether or not they're misandric. You have gone out of your way to perceive my presentation as excusing what's in them - case in point: The same is also true for "feminist humor". Okay, so your perspective is that jokes perceived as anti-male should be called out. This is something I strongly disagree with because it's the same thing feminists do, anything they perceive as anti-woman they label misogyny and demand it never be spoken. Tell me, do you take issue with anti-woman jokes too? If not, you hold a double standard. Alright, your tone seems a lot more... inquisitive this time, so I'll bite. There are several reasons for this. The primary one that I'm an MRA, which gives the article the context of self-policing the men's rights movement (something I consider to be extremely important). The MRA quotes equivalent of this would have to be written by a feminist for a feminist audience (but we all know how good the feminist movement is at self-policing). Well put, but as HuhDude pointed out I think the context of it being in fiction is important to add when these quotes are being reposted. Say someone posts the French quote on a forum without the context, and then a feminist replies that it's a work of fiction. Casual browsers will read this and dismiss the quote entirely as the perspective of the book's character and not the writer. If you post it with the context, but still present it as hateful material, feminists will have much more difficul…

Neither of the joke quotes whose explanation was "it was a joke don't worry" weren't from feminists in the first place (Sharon Stone and Jilly Cooper). And the other joke quote specifically said the book "has much less redeeming value than the other out-of-context quotes of jokes in this article". That means the opposite of "it was a joke don't worry". It seems to me like you decided everything in the article was wrong as soon as you found out it debunked material being used against feminists.

I can anecdotally confirm it. I found a feminist article about how the majority of cyberbully victims were women and a list of ways anonymous male cyberbullies "silence" women on the internet (lots of references to Sarkeesian in it of course). both feminism and the MRM will soon turn into a vicious circle where one movement criticizes the other, and the other responds by criticizing the critique. Feminism has gotten this far because of their (and society's) intolerance for criticism of it. Once this criticism is made public and considered, there will be little left to fight about. I suggest watching through karen straughan's videos and reconsider your views on feminism.

As I said, India is much more traditional than western countries. Marriage and children are more of an obligation there, not just something you can choose not to do. The solution to this problem is empowering women to be self-reliant and earn their own living. This legislature does the opposite, it provides women an incentive to become dependent on men and rewards them if they opt out.
/r/MensRights25/10/13 08:39 PM

Feminism is the problem in India. They are the ones creating these anti-male bills that promote traditionalism while increasing female privilege. Did you know the definition of rape there used to be gender neutral until feminists got it changed to a male on female crime? Feminism does not have a monopoly on gender discussion, they are not the sole arbiter of what will advance women's rights. We don't need feminism anywhere.

I mean, when you marry someone you're assuming equal rights, responsibility and reward for all income made by the couple. You file taxes jointly and you get benefits jointly. You're making a strong case for MGTOW. You get pressured by your family and society to enter into a legal contract with someone you might not even know, and then at any time they can declare they've had enough and take half your shit with nothing in return? You wouldn't be typing this post right here on /MR if it weren't for Elam's "tabloid antics". Nobody gave a shit about what Warren Farrell had to say until Elam broadcasted it on 11 and got men riled up about all the issues they had to deal with. The success of the men's rights movement is due largely to FTSU.

If you get drunk and someone convinces you to give them your wallet, you weren't robbed.
/r/MensRights19/10/13 07:29 PM

Those are the dangers that come with drinking. Yes, it would be nice if people could drink without having sex when they'd regret it later, but it would also be nice if we had world peace. It's an unrealistic ideal.
/r/MensRights19/10/13 07:09 PM
1

No. Taking a drink means you like drinking. Could be for the taste or the way it makes you feel or any number of reasons. This is irrelevant. Alcohol lowers your inhibitions, this is an inescapable reality that comes with drinking alcohol. If you don't want your inhibitions lowered, don't drink. It's as simple as that. Consenting to drinking is consenting to having your inhibitions lowered, and if having your inhibitions lowered makes you want to have sex, then you are consenting to want sex.
/r/MensRights19/10/13 06:48 PM
1

But she consented to taking the alcohol. Everyone knows alcohol lowers your inhibition, if you ingest something like that on purpose and then do something you wouldn't otherwise want to, you are still responsible for your actions. If you consent to do X, and X makes you do Y, then you are also consenting to Y.
/r/MensRights19/10/13 06:27 PM
2

The "using alcohol" is a bit different. If you are consciously using alcohol to get a girl to not be able to argue against some sort of consent, it's rape. The intention behind the perp. is to make the victim have sex when the perp. knows they don't want to. According to this survey, half of all women prefer sex while drunk. This means they don't want to have sex while sober, but they do when they've had alcohol. Have all of these women been raped?

This is ridiculous, the only reason you're protesting is because feminists are doing it. They are changing it back to the original gender neutral lyrics but with modern words. You're completely ignoring the fact that people already "altered historical artwork" in the 1900s, and these evil feminists want to go back to a similar version. And irreparably damaging a physical work of art from another culture is completely incomparable to changing the lyrics to one's own theme song.

Here's the part we're interested in: Perhaps because of this, she has little sympathy for those who are quick to claim they are being treated unfairly at work. "Sometimes women can be a bit whingy about their lot in life and I actually don't think we need to behave like that. You need to work on your talent and push yourself a bit. Men can make it difficult for you though, it's not easy. And it can be very subtle too. "As a woman you've got to walk that very fine line of being pushy but nice to …

There was a FTM who claimed receiving testosterone made him more aggressive and gave him the urge to start harassing women. Studies have shown testosterone does not increase aggressiveness, and the objectification thing is silly on it's own. It's confirmation bias at work. This is why anecdotes by feminists like this are unreliable, when you have it in your mind all these things give men privilege you start seeing it everywhere when it's not there, and when it was there when you were a woman. I can't be the only one who thinks that the feminist lyric 1) is different than the original lyric Nobody says "thou dost" anymore. "In all of us command" is the modern version. 2) makes no sense. It means "command in all of us". Thou dost = you do, the original says "in all you do command", it's the same sentence structure. It's a gender neutral version of the song inspired by the original lyrics. Really not a big deal.

This article is about how men DON'T experience domestic violence just as often, that quote is supposedly correcting a "misconception". Misconception No. 1: Men experience domestic violence just as often — even if incidents are not reported. Keep that in mind... :) Of course. I don't really like using the term "oppression" to describe men's issues myself. Because men and women have historically done it along different lines, women sacrificing their autonomy, men their lives. Isn't that what you were railing about with male disposability? Thing is, just as feminists portrayed the sacrifice of women's autonomy as oppression, you're trying to do the same with men's self-sacrifice. You're transforming the MRM into feminism redux! I was …

No. Just no. Being drafted is not the same as being put in re-education camps and starved to death, or worse. It just isn't. Sounds like we'll fundamentally disagree here. Because if disposability is a purely (or mainly) social phenomenon of disenfranchisement, then it casts any act of self-sacrifice an act of idiocy or "contribution to one's own oppression", rather than a sometime necessary, rewarding or admirable behavior. It is the denigration of the other side of disposability, which is comm…

Unfalsifiable claims like this are annoying because it's difficult to tell how to best respond, but posting examples of institutionalized discrimination against men with reputable links to back it up is the easiest way to refute it. Your point is that gender roles developed as a result of natural selection on a more micro level than evolution; this is something I agree with completely and take no issue with. The point where I disagree is where you conclude that as a result of this natural selection, the gender roles have become biologically ingrained in the psyche of males and females. I strongly agree with this. Generalizing in this context is a cheap way to make your argument sound more important and serious; it panders to the lowest common denominator who fall for this kind of argument. MRAs find it sexist when feminists say "this is why men are like X" or "men today need to do X", and it's very hypocritical call this out and then support the exact same thing with the genders reversed.

His point is that gender roles are more based upon the physical aspects of humans. Yes it was. They said gender roles are a product of sexual dimorphism, and made no exception to it with socialized gender roles. People who think gender roles are all-natural (redpillers) and people who think they're all socialized (progressives) are two sides of the same coin. The reality is somewhere in the middle.

Frankly, I'll have to disagree. There's a lot of users on here who are new aren't familiar with the MHRM perspective and NAFALT, it's simply our job to be thorough in educating them about it. As long as you make a cohesive argument that isn't overly aggressive (and the thread isn't being brigaded) you shouldn't get downvoted. Where were the apology pieces for all of these articles? Look at the comments in the Chris Brown article, they're almost universally condemning it. The apology piece was written as damage control. Maybe the author had their heart in it, but the website was covering their ass. To address your main point, I think it's good to concede when a feminist is reasonable but I'd rather do it with a source who actually cares about the issues they support instead of exploitative clickbait like Jezebel.

Male victims of domestic violence are largely overlooked by DV advocates, since it's (wrongly) believed to be caused by male domination instead of a variety of different factors. Men are disproportionately affected by workplace death and disposable roles. The prevalence of negative media portrayals of men. Basically, every society "chooses" to use male disposability in retroaction to environmental pressures, which can be war, economic crisis, etc. I'm not limiting myself to "natural" phenomenon. It's good to see things like this - especially from NPR which is at least fairly objective. While the men were out hunting for meat, they needed someone to cook the food for them and began bonding with females for the service. Otherwise the females were largely ignored and left to their own devices. I think instinct is much more malleable than you believe.

I don't understand how this relates to my post. What does this have to do with the "vast majority" of men's issues being the fault of women's suffrage, especially the ones I listed?
/r/MensRights08/10/13 07:04 PM
15

Frankly, no. All of your sources are pre-2000s, none of these are relevant as we are discussing MRAs today in the modern men's rights movement. Your wall of text also cites Warren Farrell (misspelling his name too) for your claim that MRAs say women as a class oppress men, which is ridiculous. I've never even heard of most of the "prominent MRAs" this copypasta cites.
/r/MensRights08/10/13 07:29 AM

But simply put, the vast majority of the MRM issues we face would never have existed were women to have not gained suffrage. This is hilariously ridiculous. You think male victims of rape, domestic violence, toxic masculinity and male genital mutilation (just to name a few) were caused by women getting to vote? All of those existed before women's suffrage, and claiming they would've been abolished if women hadn't been given the right to vote is pure speculation.

Considering that women's suffrage handed a 55% majority control of government to women, this is not surprising. Women aren't 55% of the country's population, this means the unrepresented men choose not to vote, and thus choose not to have themselves represented. You're also ignoring all the men who vote in favor of anti-male legislature, and the women who voted against it. It's not misogyny when you say "Women can't drive." I agree misogyny is grossly overused by feminists, but this could indicate misogyny (defined as a "dislike or hatred for women") depending on the context. It depends on the speaker's intentions. Prostate cancer is nowhere near as deadly. "Nowhere near"? It's 40,00 for breast cancer vs 32,000 for prostate cancer, yet breast cancer received over twice as much private and federal aid in the U.S. than prostate cancer. Speaking of which, the article got its facts wrong with "more American men die from prostate cancer than American women die from breast cancer".

It seems to be very similar to feminism, actually! (real feminism, not what you'd call "radical" feminism). Slightly off-topic: This is what Christina Hoff Sommers termed as "equity feminism". Unfortunately, as she also pointed out, equity feminists are the minority in the movement's leaders and researchers. You can learn more in her book Who Stole Feminism?.

My intent was to educate as opposed to debate, but I can summarize them if you wish. The first is a study by the University of Buckingham that reveals female teachers in UK schools grade boys worse than girls, and that male students believe their scores will be graded lower if the teacher is female. The second is by a high school teacher who discusses how boy's behavior gives them a disadvantage due to the way teachers conduct their class, such as how boys tend to require rational explanations f…

The case established a precedent which has subsequently been used in the Kansas courts.[8] It is one of the earlier cases now cited in U.S. child support guidelines which say that in every case that has addressed the issue the court has decided that an underage man is liable for the support of his child even when the conception was the result of statutory rape.[9]

Well some of them think we can, but only under the context of the patriarchy "backfiring on men". Male-oppressor-female-victim is one of the fundamental components of patriarchy theory, so when you bring male victims of sexism into the equation it undermines the entire thing. Thus (according to the feminists) you're allowed to talk about men's issues, but you're not allowed to say it's from institutional discrimination against men (because men have the power), or that women helped perpetuate it …

the #1 reason MRAs don't get taken seriously is "you don't actually have problems, you're just anti-women" People think that because feminists keep repeating it, and everyone believes it because everyone thinks feminism is synonymous with women's rights. Pandering to society's preconceived notions is treating the symptoms, not the core problem, which is society's perception of feminism. Criticism of feminism is the solution, and labeling oneself as an anti-feminist is one way to go about it.

That doesn't answer any of my questions. Telling people men can be raped does little to address the issue of female perpetrators. Everyone thinks the existence of female rapists is negligible, so all you're doing by just saying men can be raped too and stopping there is acknowledging that negligible amount of female rapists and ignoring the rest. This is called NAFALTing. I don't think you understand what "patriarchy" is. It's a term for traditionalist gender roles which feminists believe benefit men at the expense of women. Depends how you define power. Some of the more extreme radfems want to increase their power by decreasing the population of men to 10%, and some want a country of only women through genetic engineering. Most feminists only want to increase their power to what they believe is the level men have based on feminist ideology. "Power" is too vague a term, and implies there's a concerted, intentional effort on the part of most or all feminists to gain more power than men, which isn't true.

But he can’t claim theft, the ruling said, because the sperm were hers to keep. “She asserts that when plaintiff 'delivered' his sperm, it was a gift — an absolute and irrevocable transfer of title to property from a donor to a donee,” the decision said. “There was no agreement that the original deposit would be returned upon request.”

We can't deal with the problem if we can't identify its cause. *Edit: by this I mean the article reads like clickbait, not that I think the story might not be a big deal

Truth is, the vast majority of teachers punished for sexual abuse are men. Teachers "punished" for sexual abuse, not total incidents. Once again, underreporting is not taken into consideration.

Ideologues are going to quote mine no matter how we phrase our arguments. Advocating for men's rights at all is misogyny in their eyes because it attacks the institutions they've built for women at the expense of men (family courts, VAWA, duluth model, etc).

No... you've made at least four different claims so far and the only evidence you've presented to back it up is a sketchy website you expect me to dig through to verify everything.

I design infographics for men's issues and other images on my blog. Anyone can feel free to print em out, hand em out, post em all over your town :) Maybe you'll find enough people interested to form a MR- group! Then we'll have really got the men's human rights movement ball going. Fuck what people think of you. The suffering of men in our society is more important than your reputation or what your friends will think. All that matters is you're getting ahead and accomplishing your activism.

Gonna need something more substantial than that, sorry :/ I need links to reputable web pages that clearly spell out the claims you're making, with citations if applicable. First people grumble about too many depressing stories about men under attack, and now it's about stories of victory in men's issues! The Femen post only got three total upvotes. I definitely think it's helpful to reminding everyone to keep everything on topic here, but these two examples I don't find problematic. I disagree with your point about them being misogynistic, I wouldn't interpret either of those posts as bashing women unless the OP explicitly said something misogynistic. Our activism…

That site has no WoT reputation and the whois information is protected by proxy. The About Us page doesn't list any names, and the Contact page is broken. My theory on why circumcision is being pushed so hard in Africa is because some AIDS activists have turned into ideologues in their attempts to solve the AIDS epidemic, and they're willing to ignore conflicting evidence in order to try something they think might work. Plus they're not aware of the downsides of circumcision, so they see no reason not to try it despite evidence it doesn't work. Anyone else?

I know you were addressing the OP's point about hiring women with less physical strength so this isn't a rebuttal, so just for the record there's a difference between women tending to have less muscle mass and a woman who does have as much or more muscle than the other (male) workers at the job she's applying for. We don't have words that are specific to a race that are used to apply to all men, so that point doesn't apply. Yes it does, it was a theoretical comparison. If we had race-specific nouns, would you continue to use them? No, that would be racist against all the races it didn't refer to. Women deserve nothing for free. They are only equal to men now, no longer consider special or deserving of any favour they do not earn. Human rights aren't something you earn, or are given because you're special.…

Our species does not have a neutral sex, and manufacturing words to pretend there is one seems counterproductive to me. That's like saying "our species does not have a neutral race" and then choosing white (or black or asian) as the 'default' race. You're using gendered nouns to 'benefit men' at the expense of women, which is exactly what we're fighting with the reverse.

The request was for a feminist who will 'publicly renounce the idea of "patriarchy", the idea of "male privilege" and the idea of "rape culture"'. You really think it's possible to find a feminist like that who wouldn't be ostracized by other feminists? If the answer is no, then it was a loaded and pointless question.

We just had a post about this exact thing. Tell you what - show me a feminist who will publicly renounce the idea of "patriarchy", the idea of "male privilege" and the idea of "rape culture". forms of feminism feminist theory These are still different than "feminist", the plain and unmodified label. It also says "Most forms of feminism characterize patriarchy as an unjust social system that is oppressive to women". Are those other forms not "real" feminism? Does the "official" definition of feminism render any observation made by an outsider null and void? I should think not. No. As I've previously stated, you're perfectly entitled to your own opinion. What you're not entitled to do is force it on others. All I'm objecting to is you demanding others conform to your opinion, instead of presenting your opinion and asking others to consider it.

It is a general observation (NOT an opinion) that most Christians believe in Jesus. Definitions aren't based off the subjective observations of the minority, they're based off the opinions of the majority. If you want the collective definition of "feminist" to be "one who believes in patriarchy theory", then you have to convince the majority that this is what it should be. Until then, the official definition is "advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of…

The reason adhering to the holy books, rituals and dogma makes someone Christian is because the majority of Christians believe they do. Christianity is defined by most Christians as the belief in the bible and Jesus. In contrast, feminism is not defined by most feminists as belief in patriarchy theory, it's defined as advocating for equal rights. I'd hazard a guess that most feminists haven't even read The Women's Room, and possibly never even heard of it. And again, you can argue that most femi…

Because in order to identify as a feminist you have to believe in the concept of "patriarchy" - the idea that all men oppress all women all the time. Says who? There's nothing to stop anyone from identifying as a feminist while not believing in patriarchy. Besides, any MRA who doesn't criticize feminism is part of the problem, not just the 'feminist MRAs'. You miss my point, I'm saying he's framing 'comfort women' to be as trivial as conscription when he should instead be framing conscription to be as horrifying as comfort women. Women serving in military roles also actually has a utility of winning battles as a combat role, or saving lives as a support role, not just getting soldiers' rocks off. So while they may be forced into disposability, at least it serves a practical purpose.
/r/MensRights31/08/13 03:49 PM
11

No no no, absolutely not. The female equivalent of men being conscripted to fight in combat is women being conscripted to fight in combat too, or at least serve as (medical) support. Not being conscripted to get raped. You're trying way too hard to trivialize 'comfort women' to the same level as conscription, which is hypocritical when you think conscription should be given the same level of attention as comfort women.

I only see a couple posts about feminism on the front page and they're addressing legitimate issues. If the feminists in question are promoting concepts like 'rape culture', erasing male victims of rape/domestic violence, demonizing masculinity, etc, then it is a men's issue. That said, I think it's preferable to use the term "gender feminist" whenever possible, although it's important to keep in mind when used too much it allows them to avoid responsibility for their sexism. Christina Hoff Sommers defined Equity and Gender Feminism in her book Who Stole Feminism?, which should answer your question precisely. Oh well, just as long as they're not convicting accused rapists by default, that was my initial concern. To be frank I thought they made a fairly convincing argument for the changes, the last thing a rape victim needs to hear when they're trying to report is that they're under suspicion for lying about the rape.
/r/MensRights15/08/13 08:44 PM

Ah, so it's just for statistical purposes, this new policy won't lead to false accusations going through by default?

It's a good start, but there's almost no mention of female rapists. Removing references to men as perpetrators and women as victims, it is argued, is to deny a common reality and to obfuscate men’s sexual violence toward women.195 Some have gone so far as to argue that the acknowledgement of male rape victims via more inclusive laws and policies “is part of a backlash against feminism.”196 That's fucked up. Wanting justice for male rape victims is "backlash against feminism"? Frankly, no. If the…

Hey wait a second... women receive way more messages than men in the first place, and it looks like men are receiving at least twice as many messages in the "brazen cheat" category than any other... so men and women both prefer cheaters. Am I reading this right? Can anyone else confirm?
/r/MensRights15/08/13 05:25 AM

Yep... all references to abusers are masculine, and all victims are feminine.

The point isn't that it's a huge deal in itself, it's the double standard if the genders were reversed. Plus, there's other more subtle themes going on - notice how the relatively unattractive and overweight guy is making a move on the hot girl, and her response is to assault him. It's saying being abusive to men is acceptable as long as they're unappealing.

Funny, but not really men's rights related.
/r/MensRights14/08/13 07:44 PM

The only place they ever learn about men's rights is from radical ideologues who don't view us objectively in the first place. Then once they've got it in their heads we're all misogynistic rape apologists, they never consider actually checking us out firsthand to confirm it's true, and of course they're going to take the word of the "empowered feminists valiantly fighting for womyn's rights" over the "hateful, oppressive MRAs". This is where critical thinking skills come in handy.

Have you seen the U of T protest videos? The only coverage it got on any major feminist blog was Jezebel who blamed the harassment Big Red got on us (it was all done by 4chan) and going on about how this is what happens to a "woman with an opinion". They claimed she was provoked and constantly interrupted, when any objective viewer can see she came in unsolicited and started screaming at MRAs when she noticed cameras on her. This is the only feminism that's relevant to us, and it's the only femi…

The sad part is this whole incident will just make it more difficult for real victims of sexual assault to come forward. I wonder if these feminist ideologues legitimately thought they were helping actual victims with this or if it was purely for self-gratification.

The fact that they're only changing it because women/feminists are demanding it and not because qualified professionals determined it was the best course of action is a strong indicator to me that it's not a good idea.

I've been browsing 4chan since 2006, and since we're going to play who's the bigger newfriend, you obviously aren't aware /b/ hasn't raided anything of value in a loooong time let alone organized a DDoS attack of any kind whatsoever. I disagree, those are just stereotypes. The people you refer to (trolls and hate mongerers) are just the vocal minority, the casual lurkers are the users who are going to be viewing the ads and clicking on them. And besides, even if the subreddit does get a little trolling runoff as a side effect it's nothing the mods haven't handled before. Someone advertised /r/gaming on /v/ a while back, and I think there was one other on /pol/, not sure how it turned out for them though.

many will merely read the title and assume that the 40% figure applies to all victims without bothering with the rest Not to be short but that sounds like their problem. Mentioning 12 months in the title just makes it too clunky and awkward, and it's mentioned two sentences later anyway.
/r/MensRights04/08/13 06:13 PM
3

This is seriously frying my brain. Both of these distinct claims are wrong, because the CDC reported per-victim perpetrators, not per-case perpetrators and not total perpetrators. Okay so what language would I use for the title, the purple section and the pink section? Also is it really necessary to qualify the 12 month period twice in the purple section? It says 12 months two sentences after it...

Wait what I changed the purple section, it only says "40% of rapes are committed by females" now. it's 40% of victims that report male perpetrators, not 40% of rapists that are women. Per-victim perpetrators are not the same as perpetrators, and are not the same as per-case perpetrators. I don't get the difference. It needs to qualify that this is only 12 month victim prevalence data. I know you updated this elsewhere. It's unacceptable, even once, even as the link/lead bait, to present this ana…

No. The problem with the data is that it's probably inaccurate, not that it's being intentionally misleading. It clearly spells out in the infographic that it is a) giving the percentage of rape perpetrators by gender and not the percentage of rapists by gender and b) using the Sex of Perpetrator from the lifetime period while admitting that the 12 month period would be ideal. The infographic is transparent in its faults.

this is the same reason used for buttressing the infamous Koss study. But Koss has the financial resources to fund her own studies into rape, I on the other hand must wait for others to publish new studies. We are not comparable.

Aight thanks, it's cool. Next time someone else publishes a study on female rapists I'll be ready with photoshop for a new infographic. The method used is still useless unfortunately, so the result is beyond 'speculative' to me--it reads like an article about the UFO that landed in my backyard, with data to prove it. This fiction is a bad representation of us, and twisted abuse stats are troubling all on their own. Well as long as it's good for the layman I'll have considered my job done. Maybe …

I updated it on the blog, now it says "In the period studied, women made up 40% of rape perpetrators". http://franklyno.tumblr.com/post/57200420572/download-the-full-infographic-here-edit-fixed-a They're presenting 12 month data as though it were lifetime data, and it is not. I thought we already went over how I said I used the lifetime perpetrator data for the 12 month victim data. You are being rather hostile, I'm not trying to intentionally be misleading.
/r/MensRights04/08/13 03:50 AM

Well I'd like to use the most statistically accurate information as I can, but I also don't wanna just ignore one of the few studies out there that examines the prevalence of female rapists, especially over such a broad scope. . .

I thought it was clear from the pink section we were using different sources of data to compile numbers? It says "We'll have to use data from the lifetime statistics because they didn't publish figures for the 12 month period".
/r/MensRights04/08/13 02:56 AM
-6

To be honest I'd rather use the questionable data now and raise awareness about male rape than wait around for someone to conduct a better study. Who knows, maybe the coverage it receives will be what motivates someone to conduct that study. In a version 2 for the infographic I could mention how male rape needs more studies for more accurate data.

Well I did prune the original one for a few articles that were taken out of context, I feel that these ones were presented accurately for the most part. Even if the domestic violence one, for example, was just to grab attention it's still despicable to be bragging about abusing your boyfriend when discussing male victims of domestic violence. I added the pegging one because the article seemed to be saying that emasculating your boyfriend would make him a better feminist. And the sexual objectifi…
